Putin's Spy Chief Visits North Korea to Discuss Moves by "Hostile Forces"
Russia's spy chief Sergei Naryshkin visited North Korea to discuss security cooperation as the two countries strengthen ties amid Russia's war in Ukraine. Sergei Naryshkin, head of Russia's SVR foreign intelligence service, met with North Korea's State Security Minister Ri Chang Dae. They talked about increasing cooperation to address rising espionage threats from "hostile forces". Both Russia and North Korea face global sanctions, with Moscow sanctioned for its invasion of Ukraine and Pyongyang for its nuclear weapons testing. The meeting is part of North Korea's efforts to expand diplomatic engagement after COVID-19 lockdowns. Putin has deepened ties with North Korea since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
