China is lying through its teeth; they have benefited greatly from this war, more than any other country according to Konstantin of Inside Russia. China may already be moving on eastern and southern Russia. Not by sending military troops to occupy Russian lands, but by buying and bribing. Russian governors would suddenly ignore all orders from Moscow and start taking orders from Beijing instead, and the Kremlin would just keep quiet and do nothing. Russia is becoming increasingly economically dependent on China, and there is no way that China isn’t going to take advantage of that. All in the Game after all.

I'd like to point out that the Bakhmut calculas should not be viewed as a comparision of attrition. While it does seem to be true that is only because we lack the context to make meaning out of these decisions. In truth this should be viewed more from a higher level perspective in how the battle is affecting each sides combat potential overall. That is, the sides ability to conduct meaningful operations like offensives or defensives. Manpower is part of this but lives traded is not a complete picture. The big question will be in how well Ukraine has been doing in their force generation. It seems like Ukraine might have used Bahkmut to lock the enemy in place and reduce damages to free up troops. This only makes sense when you consider that if the enemy is not locked in Bahkmut then Ukraine needs a larger number of forces to defend because to account for attacks from unpredictiable directions. If we assume Ukraine is locking them in place to pull some forces back for training and resting than that means they might be generating a significant attack force for their new offensive through veterin forces withdrawn to train on western weapons and a mix of new troops mustered and trained. If they are successful and were able to hold Bahkmut's front with minimial forces then its possible the force they are mustering will go into an offensive facing a thined out enemy that is low on supplies and demoralized. If they successfully use western weapons and combined arms training to a sufficient degree then a single break through can turn into a route since western weapons are designed for rapid manouver warfare. That might not be the outcome, but the threat of such an outcome increases as long as Russia continues to loose combat power while Ukraine gains it.

@@keith6371 Let's humor you and assume that is true for a second. Then we can assume the superior Russian forces should be able to dominate that megar force. Let's pick any particular part on the front. IF this is true then Russia should have made a significant gain anywhere on the front and either forced the surrender or destroyed a force on a front in Ukraine. This contridicts the reality on the ground and Russian attacks have not moved the lines in any significant way. Ukraine having no sigificant forces and Russia failing to advance with a superior force cannot both be true. Thus by contridiction your claim is false.

@@Edax_Royeaux I think there is a significant force. Though modern warfare is not treating their doctrine of sending untrained troops on poorly coordinated massive attacks to wear the enemy down well. They raised a lot of troops and literally ran them into the ground in a few short months. That is a grim achievent and if they failed this time I don't know how the next wave will turn out better for them. With NATO tightning the screws on Russia, their ability to continue the fight will come down to how 'IN' China will be in their support. China will likely consider major moves in the next few years because Russia messed with their plans in a big way. China wanted to keep the military option open but after Russia kicked the bees nest many NATO countries are re-investing in their capabilities and building up war industries. This means China's window of opportunity to use military force is going to close in the next 5 years. They are not quite ready now and there are moves that see they could be planning something in 2-3 years (which is accelerated from their original plans). However, they might also consider risking more direct involvement now by providing lethal arms to pump Russia full of gear and commit to helping train their troops. That would put them in direct opposition to all of the west and force them to be a total pariah so if they are willing to go that far I think them taking hostile actions somewhere themselves becomes more likely should they travel that path. China is not quite committed to the military option yet though and does hope and prefer to build a multipolar world through trade and diplomacy instead so it will be curious to see if they are willing to let the military option slip away for another few decades because once the west gears up it will take decades for us to feel safe enough to let it decline again.

The sheer amount of approving and cheering comments by ordinary Russians under videos about the atrocities committed against civilians in Ukraine were no less shocking to Ukrainians than the war itself. We somehow got used to the war, but the realization of who we have been living next to all this time without even knowing it is still terrifying. These creatures call themselves our brothers. Imagine what they would do to you, who call them their enemies, if you let them. Not supplying weapons to Ukraine in order to achieve an early peace would be like allowing a violator to violate his victim in order to end the violence as soon as possible.
