Love how his demeanor just changed there. You think he's another goofy villain and then... Nah, he's the heavy

Puss never beat death, he could’ve delivered the killing blow awhile ago. I believe deep down he really wanted Puss to change his ways.

I like how they used a wolf as death itself.. That and the fact they put blood in a kids movie

Wolves so often appear as the threat/opposing force/punishment/bad route in so many fairytales throughout european mythology it was a stroke of genius to connect them all as the personification of death itself.

I always like it when storytellers portray Death as just an indifferent force of nature. Death doesn't take what isn't his and only goes after people who cheat or mock him. He isn't a villain, he is everyone's perpetual antagonist who likes and is very good at his job. You dont have to like have to like him (not that many people do, nor does he care), but you have to respect him.

I agree in liking Death portrayed in that way, but he is NOT portrayed like that here. He targets Puss specifically because he does cheat and mock him. "After all Puss in Boots laughs in the face of Death. Right?" He is a villain in this movie in that he taunts, torments and targets Puss even though Puss still has one life left. Don't get me wrong, this portrayal of Death is amazing and I adore this movie, I just don't think what you described is applicable to this Death.

@@divineright3034 Death is also a teacher. And in this movie Death saw someone wasting their lives and got their attention while telling him exactly what he needed to know to change. And Death left as soon as the lesson was learned so that Puss could live his last life well.

Bro said is he death straight up. One of the coolest lines I have ever heard.

I love how he looks genuinely pissed when Puss says he laughs in the face of death

"Best wolf scenes" Skips all the whistles

I always loved the subtle little detail at 6:40. It's like Puss double checks to make sure the sword is still in his hand after their mid-air clash.

When the wolf pulled that darth mall move I lost it. Dam I do not see anyone topping this character for a long time

I only hope Death will appear in more Puss In Boots and Shrek movies in the future.

Those eyes are so piercing. With his eyes being black, its like hes always staring at you from the dark.

This movie was actually so good, and Death was such a good antagonist. And yes, he is an antagonist. I am fully aware of his job as Death. But he directly opposed the protagonist of the movie for a majority of the movie. That’s what an antagonist is. And thus I have no qualms calling him a Dreamworks villain, just so he can be a part of the list, and at the top of it

I had such low expectations for this movie. I thought it was gonna be just another corporate cash grab(turns out, funny enough, that was KFP4) and man oh man did dreamworld prove me wrong. This makes it on top 5 favorite dreamworld movies

Same here. When I heard about this movie, that there was a sequel to the first Puss in Boots movie, I actually wanted to skip this. Why? Because most sequels I've seen since 2012 were garbage. DreamWorks was ok but still, didn't have high hopes for it. The original Puss in Boots movie was ok(ish), and with this sequel coming out some 11 years after the first one, I thought the sequel would be rubbish. But then when the first reviews came out saying how great it was, including from reviewers such as The Nostalgia Critic and Steve Reviews, I thought I'd give it a chance and watch it. At the end of the movie, I was just an emotional mess. Like Steve said "that ha no right to be that good".

Why does everyone say that hes a villain when hes just trying to do his own thing

The definition of a villain isnt necessarily "evil" by itself... its to be the extreme opposite of what the good guy is. Like he said, puss was an arrogant legend who thought he was immortal, had 9 lives and that pissed death off. The moment death realized he wasnt like that anymore, he had no more reason to be the villain, which is what we call an "arc". Since the story still continued for a while, Jack Horner took the role of villain for the last minutes.

I know most of people take Lobo as a villain, but I think that he is more like a Judge of the value of life, reminding all of us to deal with the time we still have prudently. (well .... maybe his personal preference of making Puss feel fear make him in a villain color.)

What I'd like to know is would Death get pissed at someone who laughs in his face not cause they're afraid of him and thus arrogantly think they're immortal but cause they're genuinely not afraid to die. When they finally meet him they're still laughing as they depart this world with a friend.

My guy, he is hellbent on torturing this one cat that never did anything to him! The fact that puss doesn't value his lives doesn't give death grounds to torture him and say he loves the smell of fear. His job is to deal with the dead, not kill the living. He doesn't even reap the souls of the people that die in the movie, so he's actively ignoring his job to torture this one guy, that never did anything to him.

@@PdawginsanityYou don’t know that. Death happens around the world by the second. The wolf is just the physical embodiment of death, but death is omnipresent. His physical form can also teleport so it’s not like he was tracking him

@@Only1Left you make a valid point. However, this doesn't make him not a villain, for it's not doing his job to taunt and kill puss, since his job is to deal with the dead. The fact that puss doesn't value his lives doesn't change the fact that he's overstepping the boundaries of his job and doing something truly evil.

incorrect, death is the villain, the antagonist, the other. It is a story, and you are free to interpret the characters through your own eyes. But I hope you understand, that a force of nature, doesn't change its mind, nor hunts you down for fun.
