PUSHING The Praga R1 at Atlanta AMP

A mad ride in the Praga R1 at one of the most challenging twisters in the world - Atlanta Motorsports Park. If you get a chance to go there, take it.
Praga have a new foothold in America thanks to www.pragaracingusa.com and thanks to a kind gent called Jack Rambo (real name) I got the keys to his ride and pushed it hard enough to set a track (class) record. These cars are a riot to drive, especially when you can't see where you're going over the blind crests that track designer Hermann Tilke is famous for building into his circuits.
Hats off to Hermann but here's the funny thing - his best tracks aren't his Formula One circuits.. it's places like AMP and Bilsterberg. If you want to know whether you can drive or not, whether you can trust your precision and timing 100% then kneel beneath the Altar of Hermann and run one of his courses.
I'm a biased fan of Praga, they make belligerent cars that love being taken by the scruff of the neck and hurled through challenging curves. AMP has one of the longest, fastest corners I've ever driven that runs from top elevation all the way through to the pit straight. Only when everything is perfect can you take it flat out and produce the same 'holy s*** I can't believe I'm doing this' facial expression that I did

Glad you made it out to my "home track." It really has been a hidden gem in north Georgia for years. The full kart track is a load of fun as well.

it really is superb - daunting place to bang in a fast time and we don't show the video where I ripped off one of the circuit marker boards when I ran wide ...

This track is about 20 miles from me. Epic video. Been here a couple of times. Was amazing to see a real pro aka the Stig attack it!
That car is beautiful, it definitely passes the bedroom wall poster test.
How you drive so well, your concentration and skill.. with all of us riding in the cockpit with you. it must be cramped! because i hope you know, we ARE all in the car with you Mr Collins

yes - although it was kind of a fastest in class sort of record but we did pinch it by about a tenth of a second

I love AMP. The closest thing I have to a Praga is my Ford Fusion (aka Mondeo, almost) and even it is fun around this track. Had it out for a couple of track days at AMP. Most likely a lot less grip than you experienced here, I struggled to get past a... 1:45? 1:50 or so.

I would love to see Ben on a superbike to see what he can do on two wheels. Even when he was the Stig, I wanted to see him on 2 wheels.

no they are very different - the Caparo had potential but it wasn't a serious racing car like the R1
