Pushing Synplant 2 to the LIMIT (AI Synth)

decided to try out some weird sounds in Synplant 2's new Genopatch to see how closely it can recreate them. it was interesting to say the least...

    I love synplant 2. I would never want it to actually recreate a sample perfectly, I use it to make new sounds. There are loads of ways I try to break it so it's algorithms come up with crazy sounds.

    Someone should tell him you can take the modulation, pitch dives, and reverb off in the dna/gene feature. I've been messing about with Synplant2 since November and managed to successfully use it on a few scores so far, one feature film and one animated short, oh and one short film too. I even managed to take the notes of a violinist I worked with and turn her into a reedy drone organ using this thing. I also managed to turn a girl's choral singing into nice pads that retained tne airy quality of her voice, and later just for a laugh re sample her saying her saying the number 5. Which was absolutely terrifying, I cannot believe it nailed that and mimic'ed it almost exactly. 😂 Then more recently I sampled a tongue drum and made a playable one from it, cuz those things can be either too clunky or have shrill transients. Once you have your initial mimic'ed sound there's pages of features to play with in that one menu so the possibilities are manifold

    all the references to the plugin being “bad “ at exact sound replication almost made me give this video a thumbs down because the plugin isn’t even meant to recreate a sound exactly. Their website never even mentioned exact sound replication 😂

    Hi, always confused about this. Could you explain what is the best use case for genopatch? Maybe to create variations of imported sounds?

  • @bdotstanley

    @bdotstanley

    2 ай бұрын

    @@Chromamancer The idea of the original synplant, and synplant 2, is to be able to quickly pivot to different synth sounds and generate new patches. Now that all of this hype has surrounded synplant 2, people think that its purposed for sound replication. This is absolutely not what the original purpose of synplant is. If you look at the design of the original synplant, the idea is that you plant one seed (being a synth patch) and it sprouts to mutated "branches" to offer new patches that share some of the same qualities but are still new and unique. Trying to have AI sound replication is just solutionism at its worst and its clearly not what synplant was designed to do

    it's very interesting to see people's varied reactions to its limited capabilities/accuracy-IMO there's way more potential when it produces something unexpected, rather than faithfully recreating something 100%-at that point just use a sampler 😂 same thing with generative AI nowadays-when it's accurate it's mindblowing… but boring. give me more Will Smith eating spaghetti because that's genuinely interesting!

    If you want the exact pitch of the original you have to turn of the tuning fork in the bottom left. If it is on, Synplant tunes it to a whole tone.

    I now understand why things like Serum and Falcon are popular. It seems all the rage are these brittle, painful sounding plugin synths. I'll continue to produce my EDM with the likes of my AN1X, Virus, Nord A1 and the like, not this stuff. Seriously, you think this sounds GOOD? Want a great digital synth? Listen to the 3rd Wave and realise what a GOOD digital synth sounds like.

    Synplant 2 is one of those plugins that after a couple of months absolutely no one uses it. It’s a shame because it’s a cool idea

  • @godsick

    @godsick

    3 ай бұрын

    No way, I mean, of course there’s tons of noobs around trying to review without a clear purpose but you should look at what flume used to do with synplant 1, it’s really interesting how he can come up with melodies where each note is a different sound, it really makes it interesting. Also, genopatch should be used to get closer to a specific tone, kind of like sampling off of a track without losing the consistency of the sound throughout the range, where timestretching won’t deliver the result directly, even if it’s not perfect, if it gets you close, it’ll spark creative ideas for processing those sounds afterwards, and it can offer a starting point for a more authentic sound where nobody is looking yet.
