Фильм және анимация
This week I take a look at how to push color film, specifically with some Portra 800 at 1600 and 3200iso.

Colin Bloodworth Portra 800 in general has more of a Kodak Gold look. It’s an older emulsion than the 400 and 160 so maybe that’s why🤔

@@FramesPerSecond maybe because you coompare a 35mm (gold200) film with in this case a 120. (portra)
That shot at 7:03 was dope! Also, Portra 800 pushed to 3200 actually looks pretty good!
Your videos are so easy to watch, love it 👌🏼

Thank you Sam!
For film , this all looks too perfect. it amazes me how you get to achieve that look .It's very unique. You need to shoot at least 1000 rolls of portra before even get to that area of expertise. This is super fun to watch.
40 years ago I did a lot of night photography. I tried pushing Ektachrome 400 to EI 800 and 1600 and found it very disappointing, with muddy shadows and magenta highlights so a reverted to my usual Kodachrome 25 and a tripod and some very long exposures.
@randallstewart175
3 жыл бұрын
You'd have similar disappointment with the new Ektachrome 100. Slide (positive) color film doesn't push as readily has the negative color film he's using here.
@theren8311
Жыл бұрын
Because pushing film makes you underexpose you shots, not overexpose them. You should have dropped it to 200 ISO.
I have been shooting and pushing and developing B&W film since the 1970s, but shooting color film at 3200 is beyond my experience. I am impressed and amazed at your work. Big thumbs up! I love your videos!
I came at peace with photography when I stopped working as professional (photographer). Now I shoot, sometimes, in medium format with the Mamiya, and I love it more. 😉 Thank you for sharing the fun Willem!
I really enjoy your channel and style of videos! I love that you'll show clips of a scene and then show your photo, once you show your photo it really emphasizes what your eye is drawn to out of the whole scene. Your attention to shadows is cool to me too because that's what I pay attention to a lot when I'm taking photos. I appreciate that you're putting out this content, in the past i've only seen fashion and wedding photography on youtube, but this is refreshing and makes me feel like i'm not the only one who enjoys this style of photography.
The 2 shots with condensation immediately tell that you're a real artist. Keep it up
Might have to change my upload date, I’ll be here with everyone else haha. Love the consistency in your content, keep it up!
Hey Willem, I've been watching your videos since November 2019. I love your content! You're an inspiration to my photography and I am interested to jump into film photography because of you. I hope you continue to do this to inspire more aspiring photographers like me. Happy New Year! ~Love from Philippines! ❤🇵🇭
I love the way this video was filmed. Nice job Allen !
good good good stuff willem as always, love to watch you do your thing
"Oh look at that!!! The tree...." haha love how excited you get over things like that
I have pushed a ton of color myself. I develop and scan at home and I am having a blast getting to know what’s really good to do. My personal favorite right now is Fuji Superia 400
A before and after-of more shots you have taken-would be cool, just to understand what's the look&feel of the original photo and the colorgraded one. Keep up the great work, massively inspiring me and a ton of other people
quality videos every single time thank u willem
The photos actually look better than I expected. Dope video dude!
My favorite part of the week
Your videos are like some kind of premium content
That 7:04 shot was everything. I would have add some rocks in the middle tho... Loved the video, made me want to try the push/pull technique on my future rolls!
Some of the shots at 1600 were seriously some of my favourite shots from you. Loved the simple experiment.
Literally searched for this yesterday and couldn’t find anything 🤯

Love your stuff man!
I push Kodak's Ektar100 @400 all the time and love the results. Glad to see more people experimenting with pushing film.
Whoever was doing the cinematography work on this!! Really smooth and clean, at moments it looked like movie-style shooting.
I love pushing Ektar. It gives it a really nice, almost vintage look.

Been curious about this for a while, great video! I've tried pushing CineStill 800T and that worked very well, gonna try Portra next.
i like how you’re always smiling when you talk
Love this content man. Your a big inspiration
Verbeeck you showed so much of your personality in this video. It's nice. Cheers man!
Even at ISO 3200, they turned out great. It'd be cool to see those night photography shots.
Amazing photos, Willem!
I love this! Thanks for an amazing video :))
That mamiya and the north face jacket are cool af.
Love your shots and also the Mamiya you shoot on! I have ZE-2 I've finished about 5 rolls on so far, I am pretty new to the film so I am hoping they will come off nicely
I've pushed 200 to 400 a few times, usually when I forgot to change the setting on the light meter. They've all turned out great! But I'm the type to not edit my film shots, but love how they turn out no matter what.
so much willem gold in this video. absolute classic
I pushed Portra 400 to 3200 and they came out great !
Why are his videos so relaxing
I like that you are actually using a light meter and showing it, shows the process
Would love to see how skin tones turn out when pushed, so if you made a similar vid but with some portraits I'll definitely watch!

David La Roche portra 160 pushed 2 stops, makes skin look SOOOOOO nice. A nice deep moody tone. Skin looks amazing. And shadows have this magenta tone to it. I suggest everyone try that!
Says botanical garden three times in the same sentence. Willem you must be excited for it!
Cool as usual man!
Man the shot at 9:13 is so sick!! That gave me an idea ;)
Came for Portra pushed to 3200, stayed for how Willem pronounces "botanical".
Awesome results actually! I would love to see what you can get pushing cinestill 800 1,2 and 3 stops if you have some spare time 😁 keep up the great videos, you inspire me to get out there and shoot
This video constantly inspires me to get out and shoot thanks buddy.
After watching this, I felt inspired to go out and make some photographs at my local park too 🤙🏽
no one: willem: these are banana trees 😀

Just to clarify, you're underexposing when you're pushing your film by having iso higher than box speed.

I really like your videos!
wow i stopped by this same spot at the Brooklyn Botanical garden. Almost identical first photos lol. and love the desert environment was one of my favorite room given then late afternoon light you get coming thru the glass.
Notification squaaaad! 🔥
Hey Willem, just stumbled across your channel and I'm digging every video. The video with cheaper film in Central Park is one of my favourites for sure. I was wondering if you had a light meter you'd recommend? I'm transitioning from digital to film photography and I'm trying to get a sense of good gear. Much appreciate it, and again love your stuff man.
What’s up with Willem and those rocks? Haha. Adorable video as usual. I like the experimental vibe.
Such a dope vid, felt like I was watching a tv show
i love your videos dude
this was cool, my dad just gave me one of his old cameras, a konica t3, and he said he used to push film with it a lot

Dang I’m honored 😭❤️
I regularly push films even the colour ones for low lights situations, but also in daylight it happens that I use the same pushed roll 👍 That's the fun part of film photography
Just pushed some 35mm gold 400 to 1600 on my m6. Came out rad. Push it. Push it real good.
I like it as a contrast to the washed out pastel tones you get when over exposing. The low levels of shadow detail makes it pop. I do think that huge loss in shadow detail is going to translate to really interesting night time photos. Especially compared to how detailed and well exposed your photos tend to be.
Lettuce praise the film gods for blessing us with a new willem video
That condensation picture was crazy 🔥🔥
Thanks, very informative
I’ve pushed rollei slide film two stops once. Looked damn good.
Wow amazing video:D We want to try it soon too!
This used to be my weekend therapy; now it's just my mid-week therapy.
every time i watch one of your video im like"i should buy a mamiya rz67" but i travel a lot so i guess i will consider to buy a mamiya 645, christmas is near. Nice as usual man! P.s. Rocks are the new super model
I’ve pulled portra 800, but never thought of pushing it. Definitely will give it a try after this.

I have some examples of Portra 800 pushed to 3200 on my Instagram. Shot a friend's gig with only the (shit) stage lighting that was all sorts of colors and it came out largely great.
such a nice video. i saw you use a rx100m7, the footage looks seriously good!
I shot a roll of Ektar 100 (120mm) at 400. Tomorrow I will get the photos. Can´t wait and enjoyed shooting the fast shutter speeds outside. If they look cool I will continue doing that ;)
It was pretty dope to see Portra 800 rated @ 1600 & 3200 during the day. But the real fun is at night! I've gotten some really clean results shooting around MSG & Chinatown pushing both Portra 400 & 800.
The original content never ends here
Please do the night photos i really love how this all came out and really wanna see more! Much love!
Love your channel dude! how do you color grade your videos? love the colors
Currently in the process of shooting portra 400 at 3200! gonna dev it myself and see how that comes out. Just got a new lens and body that im shooting it with so kind of a test for everything... will see how it comes out.
