With roots in performance apparel, Salomon has bridged the gap between function and form as its sports-oriented silhouettes have been reimagined in an array of high profile collaborations.
Beginning in 1947 with father Francois Salomon and son Georges in the heart of the French Alps, production initially focused on saw blade and ski edge fabrication. Later, after becoming the top manufacturer of bindings worldwide in 1972, Salomon would enter the alpine boot market in 1979 with immediate success. Fast forward to today and the brand remains recognized as a major entity in outdoor sports while recently stepping foot into the world of fashion with the emerging gorpcore trend.

I think Salomon has tapped into the goldmine that is the explosion of eco conscious, outdoor, technical multi use gear that has been popping off for the last 10 years. Not to say it’s anything new, but this further proves the idea of “ahead of its time.” Think NY graff writers in TNF, Robin Williams in LL Bean and speed cross, or RL in Salomon’s and baggy distressed blue jeans after a runway. Trends are pretty funny to observe, but at the end of the day style dominates. In 15 years, I hope Salomon’s and funky colored all terrain ASICS hit the sales rack once again.

If there's something I've learned in my whole 27 years of existence, is that trends cycle. What yesterday was sales rack material, tomorrow could be sought after. And Salomon is the solid proof of that.

Do you think this shoe will still be here 5 years from today? We know trends will come and go like Supras, Y3s, and Ultraboosts. But there is a proof that some can stand the test of time like Yeezys. Yes, they’re not that hot anymore, but they still sell out (at least from I am).

It’s simpler than all this b… explanation. Normcore has been on the rise for nearly a decade now. Balenciaga Triple S just sealed the return of the 90s ugly shoes. Which for 90s people is hard to digest. Solomun is just jumping on the bandwagon of ‘fashionistas’ yet again wanting to be so different, reclaiming this look. Can’t we just move forward? Looking back in the past is just so lazy and lacks creativity and design. But I guess this is what society is in 2022 and beyond-just boring and repetitive.
