Joshua, look up your block salvage repair guide. You'll find that the water director ports in the block have been repaired with inserts. In your video you can see the line of sealant used out below them in the galley. Aparently the Reman facility failed to deck the block after they were installed. I had one apart a year ago that had deck inserts installed wrong, and they settled and caused the liners to drop, blowing head gasket.

That's long term rust preventative, and required because all of the inventory comes from one warehouse. That inventory can service an order across the street, or across the world, so it has to survive a trip over the ocean (and potentially 12+ months on a storage rack). It sucks, you really need a wash bay and STEAMING HOT WATER to get the crap off.

I'm a dealer for APC cylinder heads and used over 60 of them myself and can tell you they are hands down better quality than Caterpillar heads are nowadays. Plus they aren't covered in blue shit. On a side note, cylinder kits give me anxiety, every engine I build, including these 3400's, gets ring gap measurements and always need adjustments. Ever seen a low hour failure on a fresh overhaul??? Ring gap. General rule of thumb, .004" per 1" of cylinder bore

  • @AdeptApe

Do you mean for torquing the liner protrusion bolts down or do you mean to keep the liner protrusion closer to .006"? I like to have them at .004-.005" as running it over .006" could potentially crack a liner flange depending how much over you are. .0035-.006" is a pretty tight window to achieve so I'm happy with factory specs.

The customer sourced the cylinder head themselves, and there is no warranty from Cat on it. The head may have an aftermarket warranty though.

Hello Josh, is it possible to turn on captions for your videos? I am a deaf truck driver that works on engines and servicing trucks. Thank you. Would help me to understand your videos.

You can turn on captions. It's that little cc button on the top right of the video. At least on my phone. They're auto- generated so sometimes they're a little off but they're usually pretty close.

@@davidtatum8682 That’s what I press. The little cc button. But it’s faded which I’m thinking the person that made the video hasn’t turned it on maybe. I’m not sure how that works. I use that cc button all the time. For a lot of videos that I’ve watched it does work well. I think it’s been improving a lot over time.

I don't have them turned off, not sure if there is a delay. You can view transcript for some reason, which puts everything in a text format. Sorry about that. I'll try to do some research on it for the next video.

Another useless 3 letter agency. They clearly can’t tell when the water is so bad thousands of animals perish. But don’t you dare change the exhaust hanger thrust bearing on your truck or it’s getting impounded.

@@plowboy7700 But your not figuring in labor and the fact that you reused a bunch of parts. A friend of mine blew up his cummins. International quoted him 32k. That included a reman head, injectors turbo. New cylinder packs and oil pump.

This job was probably around 30k. It is just an inframe with what seemed like not tons of extra parts. He mentioned the same injectors. No new radiator, turbo, oil pump, cam etc. Could go up to 50k with random parts added in. Parts are expensive, labor is expensive, both can add up quick.
