Great educational video. They are such advocates for Purple Matins. The Sarasota community is lucky to have them here...and you too!

We have an identical set up and have had full occupancy for the last 5 years or so. Being a Martin landlord is very gratifying.

I live up here in New England and the martins return here in the spring (march ). When is the optimum time to install my new house. I don't want the sparrows to get it before the martins. Thanks for the nice vid.

Put some lexel silicone around that tunnel and push pins, because water does leak in that Troyer gourd. Water, hot weather causes mites to take over a Gourd, babies will jump out early.

I put up a house for the first time this year and actually attracted two pair of Martins. However, starlings came in and ran them off before I could get to them. I removed the starling nest but my Martins never returned. I have been doing better at keeping out other birds but I'm wondering if I still have a chance this year hosting any martins?

How do you keep squirrels from jumping onto pole from your roof?

I have looked at a lot of Martin houses and set ups. That one looks very clean and efficient. Where was all this stuff purchased or made to plans? To encourage repopulation of Martins, information needs to be provided. I don't see any reply's to the same question of where can we get Plans or a place to purchase this setup. Thanks

I have been watching, what I believe is a Purple Martin pair that has created a nest in a hole at the top of a very tall Royal Palm tree that recently died. The birds are purple to black, and small like the Purple Martins in this video. They tend to be more active later in the day, and I have been watching them as they fly back and forth between the nest. I have checked all of my books, and looked online, but I cannot find any other blackish colored bird that these birds might be. Do you have any other suggestions as to the identity of my birds? I am located in SE FL, about five miles inland.

If their babies are pink and blind, they are ready to be fried. Nothing else matter. Fried baby birds are VERY tasty, i'm trying to get a few each spring coz they are really fun to eat!
