💈 Puro Scissor Snipping ASMR | Exploring Puro Handsome Barbershop in Vibrant San Antonio, Texas
I recently got a Puro Handsome Barbershop scissor-snipping haircut in the beautiful majestic barbershop located in the heart and soul of downtown San Antonio, Texas.
We loved meeting Tommie Gonzalez, owner of Puro Handsome Barbershop, and hearing his story 🙌🏼
Tommie hails from Brownsville, Texas and had a career in television broadcast marketing as well as the music industry prior to making the switch to becoming a barber. Work took him far from his home in San Antonio, Texas, to Berlin, Germany, and Scandinavia.
However, with the proliferation of digital music downloads, Tommie became increasingly disillusioned with the industry.
"I didn't find any value in it anymore," Tommie explained.
A haircut, however, is something that can never be downloaded, streamed, or delivered to your door! This was a reassuring awakening for Tommie.
Depressed and no longer happy with the direction of his place in the music industry, it was a chance meeting within a simple three-chaired barbershop in Oslo, Norway, that proved to be a pivotal turning point!
The shop was owned by an older barber who had been cutting hair for over 40 years in the same location just off a small breezeway near a performance hall called the Folketeateret. The inside of the shop was a collection of seemingly random items that had taken over the space, and in between the magazine piles and boxes were three barber chairs.
Waiting by his chair was a barber who was happy to receive the next customer and share a moment or story. A low-resolution picture framed of the barber with his old Corvette proudly hung from the barber's mirror!
"He just made me feel like I was the most important person in the world," added Tommie, "He made me feel like I was welcome there.” And this was at a time when Tommie was down and heartbroken, and he says, “nothing made me feel good.” He remembers this barber just put him in the best mood he had been in a very long time ❤️
✨ So in 2016, Tommie enrolled in barber school and began his barbering journey.
Now Tommie owns two Puro Handsome barbershops in downtown San Antonio 💈 He is quick to share his San Antonio roots and desire to promote local culture. Inside, the shop is a small art gallery of local artists, products are locally sourced, and you can ask the barbers anything about the San Antonio area!
Tommie explained the loose translation of "puro" as "100%, through and through, genuine, any synonym you can imagine of those adjectives.”
If you ask locals the meaning of puro, you will get a lot of different interesting beautiful answers, "and none of them are wrong!" Tommie adds. He thinks, "It's a very unique and special word for this community."
Much like his vision for Puro Handsome, an immersive experience and uniquely San Antonian!

It was an unbelievably cool experience to do this and be part of Harry’s storyteller legacy. I put a lot of love and care into my shops and to have Haircut Harry visit them was a huge sign that I’d done SOMETHING right. I love downtown San Antonio and I love being a barber. The way you grip the scissors is different from anyone I’ve seen, and I’ve seen a lot of Harry vids! Is just unique to yourself or is the grip called something?

@@187seabass ha! Thanks for noticing. I’m sure somebody calls this something unique but I first learned it from an Italian dude I went to barber school with in London. It’s been about 2 years now that I stay consistent with it and ultimately it serves the purpose of keeping my wrist in a comfortable position while still just using my thumb to open and close the cutting blade and keep the other blade absolutely still for precision cuts.

Can I ask do you have to pay the barber extra money for length of extra time that is needed to cut your hair for your videos and for lost of other customers not be allowed in the shop because you locked the door 😂 fantastic video by the way love it

Harry, Wish I had known you were in town. I was always wondering if I would ever come upon the chance to get a haircut or shave in one of the shops that you have featured in your wonderful videos. Now that possibility is certainly in reach. All I have to do now is to muster up enough courage to take my life in my hands driving 25 miles south on I-35 to come visit his shop. But I will!

Wow! this is the most precise haircut I've ever seen. This guy cuts hairs like a mathematician working on the proof of a difficult theorem.
My jaw dropped @ 3:17 when the master barber showed his scissors stance. The last time i had such a reaction to a blade was when Darth Maul first revealed his double bladed lightsaber in the phantom menace.

Their are many camera “tricks” sprinkled throughout their videos. I remember seeing one where Harry or the barber wasn’t reflecting in the mirror for one shot. Classic stuff!

The "trick cut" with pomade was great! I was wrapping my mind why did he put pomade on your neck. On the second viewing i realised that you inserted a cut to pomade! Great trick!
