Puritan I: Understanding the Times | Behold Your God Podcast

Show notes: mediagrati.ae/blog
This week begins a new series where we focus on the Puritans. Who were they? Where do they fit in history? Why and how do we find them so helpful?
This series coincides with the release of a project Media Gratiae has worked on for the last two years, Puritan: All of Life to the Glory of God. You can find more about that here: mediagratiae.org/collections/....

I started crying at the 7 minute mark.As a drop out of a public high school and a homeschool mother of five,I have found this, what you said here,so true.Having an appetite for God!! The Puritan teachings are as the fuel that ignites the Holy Spirit within me....the purest teachings of Scripture!! Everything I learn,I teach my 5 children. Also,Behold Your God,The Weight of Majesty, our family has gone through 3 times,it's that deep.My pages in my workbook are filled with so many notes and Scripture passages. I love what Media Gratiae are doing.keep going dear brothers in Christ! This sister is learning!!

The puritans were some 'good ground' hearers which obviously had, what Jesus calls 'an honest and good heart' which have had to 'bring forth fruit with patience' (Lu.8:15) seeing that 'in their patience they possessed their souls'. Taking 'every word' of their Lord to heart, they daily desired to be 'like unto men that wait for their Lord,' upon whom He would serve a meal of blessing 'when He cometh' and would 'find them watching' (Lu.12:35-37). The puritans are great role models for us, in this postmodern world, who thought Sola Scriptura the safest way to follow Christ.

Congratulations on this new achievement. This was a great podcast. I somewhat "overcame" the language barrier to the puritans some time ago during an especially troubling time when: 1) it seemed like they were the only ones who understood my situation 2) they seemed to be generally regarded (by those I trusted... plus "networking" and "triangulation" among people and writings) to be very knowledgeable and trustworthy teachers of the Bible 3) their godly tone and demeanor of their writings. Therefore....and as far as what I didn't see that contradicted the Bible I trusted them and was eager to work through the writing/language difficulties.

Thanks Robert! The language barrier is definitely something that takes some work to overcome, but once you get comfortable with it, you hardly notice it anymore. We are glad you have benefited from the Puritans!

I think history is important. We can learn so much from when we see how God works in the lives of others. God is greater then all of our frailties. To trust in him above all else, is the only way.

Yes. To study history is to study how God has moved throughout the time of humanity. We can see His sovereignty and providence throughout it all. Thanks for watching!

For most who do hear of Puritans, they think of belt-buckled hats and burning witches. It is a sad reality. But it also reminds us how important it is to tell their stories through our podcasts and film projects. Read deep of these saints. If you haven't already, check out Banner of Truth and Reformed Heritage Books. If you need some directions with where to start, reach out to us at info@mediagratiae.org and we will help you out. (Just mention you are coming from KZread and your message will come to Teddy who will reply to you.)
