Christina Pluhar : « In 2003 we invited the great Italian jazz clarinettist Gianluigi Trovesi to appear on our album All'lmprovviso and improvise on Baroque bassi ostinati from seventeenth-century Italy. At that time we deliberately refrained from altering the original harmonies of these ostinato basses (or 'grounds' as they were known in England). It was only the melodic idiom of the jazz clarinettist, with his subtle timing, that differed from 'our' seventeenth-century musical language.
On Music for a while, however, we wished to underline the extraordinary modernity of Purcell's music by constantly moving between the centuries in the harmonies and styles of the improvisations. This change of musical style is often accomplished within a single bar of a piece by means of subtle rhythmic and harmonic modifications to the ground. The bass lines and melodies composed by Purcell remain intact, but the improvisatory style of the instruments suddenly switches centuries. Our listeners find themselves in a timeless music room.
I am especially glad that the wonderful Gianluigi Trovesi has again enriched this new project with his superb artistry, ten years after All'lmprovviso. I am also delighted that I was able to persuade my old school friend, the extraordinary jazz guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel from Graz, to join our Purcell project. »

Try to listen "Ella abraca Jobim" by Ella Fitzgerald. I'm almost sure you'll fall in love with it.
Thanks a lot. I am a devote fan of Christina Pluhar

I love, love, love this! Baroque music (and voices, such as Orlinski's or Jaroussky's ) can be so timeless yet modern and there is such a profound sense of peace to be encountered. I hope you keep pushing the envelope so we can continue to enjoy.
The best music never dies...
Wonderful...!!! Thanks, and greetings from Mexico.
This is a magnificent recording. Only serves to underline the enduring quality of Purcell’s music. What a tragedy that his life was cut so short for surely he hadn’t reached the zenith of his creativity?
Magnifique !

Such wonderful, imaginative, uplifting music! A treasure.💞
Album meraviglioso, grandi interpreti
Schmetterlinge im Bauch und Gänsehaut...Wunderbar!
Moving, inspiring and simply magnificent!

This music an these voices are so beautiful - it is such delight to listen to this - thank you so much
This was really good. Jazz and classical fusion the way it should be done.
Very nice lecture of Christina Pluhar. Very inspirative and warm. Very good!
What a refreshing interpretation. Thank you.
Wow... Such a different point of view on the always lovely Purcell... Thank you for showing this to us!
Só podia ser Christina Pluhar. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! Saudações brasileiras.
how awesome is genuine music when you get inspired from a solid tradition and reshape it in a new form for the newer audiences? congrats!
This music is beautiful, passionate, and most intimate. I have no idea how the photo for this video even relates.

This is the photo from the album art cover. According to discogs, it's by Mallory Morrison, who's a photographer specialized in underwater photographs. I love this one, I find that it fits the music really well, this is a nice representation of keeping balance between classical music and jazz. This is at least how I interpret it, but of course I may misinterpret the original intention of the people who chose this photograph for the album.
when i listen to such music wonderment... i like myself so much...blessed be the happy brain. isn't music a wonderful channel ?
Esto es una gozada, puro placer!!!👏👏👏👏👏🥂
superb
Amazing, to dare to cover Henry, and then to give such an over excited performance --- cheers all the best
Magnifico Divino Bravo !!!!
Przepiękne
J'adore
Maravilloso❤
Que hermosa
Oedipus, King Of Thebes, Z 583 - Music For A While it's a masterpiece. Purcell would like it!
Wow!
Hi friend, happy weekend, big hug 🤗 Affections 🎶🌹💐👍🍀🙌😉
Completely unexpected. I think I like it!
Mega 🤩
"As soon as I thought that I got out, she pulled me back in..."
Best rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" ever.
uauuuuu no words!!!!
I’m won over! Baroque for ever, but this was beautiful. Is it a guitar or a theorbo in the second movement? Christine’s voice is superb. ( This is the first time I’ve ever written a comment )
This is a lovely surprise.

Maravillosa obra! ¿Quien realizó el disegno de la portada?
Some of this is excellent - 'Strike the Viol' for example. But - 'When I am laid in earth' ?
Hay algo gitano o flamenco español....
Is that her in the picture?

No, in this sense, the image is terribly misleading. But the music is heavenly.
The curates egg comes to mind when listening to this album: 'parts of it are excellent' but there are some songs that simply do not work in this jazzed up format.
