    You know what might be interesting to see? How much damage that recoil would do to a torso, what if you put one inside the sled and then fired? It's easy to say that thing has around 400 real units worth of recoil, but visualizing what would happen if you were on the rear wrong end of it (I doubt there's a right end on that beast) could be a fun experiment

  • @CDCI3

    @CDCI3

    5 ай бұрын

    If it's on the sled or in some kind of vice, I don't think you'd get the full effect. However, I get the impression that firing it unrestrained would throw that lightweight cannon pretty hard. I guess if you could somehow attach it to the torso and then attach the torso to something, it might work. You'd have to be pretty confident the torso would stand up to it, though.

    The punt gun was never used in warfare. It had all of the clunkiness of a cannon without any of the benefits. In order to get any kind of elevation pitch you'd have needed to either redesign the gun or build a custom wheeled wagon mount, and why do that when cannons already exist? The punt gun was designed to fire straight ahead to shoot birds on the water, not tracking a moving target or firing artillery downrange which requires a ballistic trajectory. There were plenty of thing designed specifically to do that and trying to use this behemoth to do a job it wasn't intnded for would have been way more trouble than it was worth.

While this behavior may seem unusual to us, it is a testament to the resourcefulness and adaptability of the natural world.
