Punjabi Sikh Songs

Музыка

Sikh music or Shabad kirtan is Kirtan-style singing of hymns or Shabad from the Guru Granth Sahib, the central text of Sikhism. It began in the late 16th century as the musical expression of mystical poetry, accompanied by a musical instrument rabab, by Bhai Mardana an early follower of Guru Nanak -the founder of Sikhism. Following Nanak, all the Sikh gurus sang in the then-prevalent classical and folk music styles, accompanied by stringed and percussion instruments.

I spent a lot of time in India, and on one of my visits, I became friends with a friendly Sikh. We shared our stories, and he took me to meet his family. During my stay, he asked me if I would like to visit his gurudwara, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib. In fact, it is Gurudwara Bangla Sahib that is shown at the top of this page. The experience of having spent one day listening to this music changed me forever.

Actually the gurudwara shown in this picture is the Golden Temple (Sri Harmandir Sahib), and it is located in Amritsar. The Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is situated in Delhi and has been designed to reproduce a Gurudwara similar to the famous Golden Temple. Hence, they are similar, and both wonderful and worth visiting. Blessings :)

I like this music. I work at a Punjabi restaurant on the weekends and the boss plays this kind of music in the back on Punjabi Radio USA. I also like it when they have the little kids sing and play the instruments because you can hear the culture being passed on to a new generation and I think that's really beautiful, even if they don't technically play well yet haha

Sat Sri Akal Ji. This will be my last week at my current job I will miss greeting the Sikh Truck drivers at the warehouse. You of my best memories there was when a Sikh greeted me before I had the chance to greet him it let me know they appreciated my greeting them. I just wanted them to know that I was a friend. As a former truck driver I know what people think and say and talk about them. Just so you know I will miss you. When I see one of you out and about I will take the time to greet you just so you know not everyone is a hater.

Sikhism or Sikhi is a panentheistic Indian religion that originated in the Punjab region of the Indian subcontinent about the end of the 15th century. It is one of the youngest of the major world religions. The fundamental beliefs of Sikhism, articulated in the sacred scripture Guru Granth Sahib, include faith and meditation on the name of the one creator, unity of all humankind, engaging in selfless service, striving for social justice for the benefit and prosperity of all, and honest conduct and livelihood while living a householder's life. In the early 21st century there were nearly 25 million Sikhs worldwide, the great majority of them living in the Indian state of Punjab.

I just love the singing in these tunes! Could it be that there is an arabic influence in it? I don't really know a lot about indian history, but wasn't north india arabic for a while?

Sure there is. Cultures are in an everlasting exchange of thoughts, emotions, technology etc The only question is how much of that influence is still recognizable.

No North India wasn't Arabic. There was an Ummayad incursion in early times by Muhammed Bin Qasim into Sindh. But this was brief. The main musical influence from another culture on Indian Music is Persian. This can be seen in Ghazals, folk music and Sufi Music. Arabic influence not so much. This Sikh Kirtan however is more influenced by straight up Classical Indian Music using with ragas.

Beautiful heavenly scenery! I always wonder to myself as to why alot of humans from say the western part of the earth are racist towards you beautiful humans! Notice how I put humans 🙂🌍 and earth 🌍🙂 it's because we're all humans and we're all living on this same planet, so to those racist idiots, I say this to you lot, "if you don't like it, then leave!" But yeah, enough of that now, let me just try my absolute best to focus on this beautiful heavenly photo! Excuse my arrogance here, but what is that building called? It looks very beautiful! Also, the moon, clouds, sky, water ect ect, it all looks, and I'll have to say this word again, beautiful and heavenly 🌍🙂❤️🥰
