Pumping off a boom not ideal but works... you've made it look very comfortable

We do a fair bit of it. It works, but as you mentioned, definitely less than ideal, and charged for accordingly.

Appreciate the info. Its always fun to see what i could lear. From a fellow pumper. We run line pumps out in california. Next goal is to move up to boom pumps. And stop draging the hose around lol.

I tell ya man, dragging hose around ain’t so bad some days in comparison to a bad day on a boom pump. I myself actually prefer running the line-pumps. True story.

Yea i can defenitly see what your saying. Much bigger problems and responsibilities come with the boom pumps.

It’s definitely a steep learning curve. So many little, proactive things which make all the difference. I always say that when pumping shotcrete through a boom, if the placers ain’t complying that’s it at least a little bit too wet, then you’re probably putting it in the pump too dry.

How many hours did the pumping last? Which is the maximum duration of pumping during summer (high temperatures)?

Typically when pumping shotcrete with the boom pump we are about 45 minutes to pump each load (8 cubic meters). As the weather gets warmer we add retarder to the loads of concrete as this stuff sets extremely quickly otherwise.

Hi. Do you know what size air hose are they using for the shotcrete nozzle? And how long is it? Are the concrete hoses 2"?

Using 1” airline for the shotcrete nozzle and 2” line for the concrete. Many shotcrete guys use 50’ lengths of hose as they’re not typically draining them by hand. That being said, trying to drain a 50’ hose full of shotcrete by hand absolutely sucks!

It's a huge deal for the mix drivers to keep your hopper a little low. I see on the video that you barely pumping and this guys like to top it off

Shotcrete it needs to be quite full in order to feed the cylinders fully (shit is so sticky). This is why I dust the shit hopper with bentonite, just let if get ugly and she all peels away with water pressure at days end.

If it not a automatic you can drop a gear less pressure

Problem with that is that you’re no longer producing maximum hydraulic flow, which is absolutely essentially for proper circulation/cooling of the oil when pushing hard at low volumes. I get what you’re saying though. Guys with 20 cell pump kits would drop them down a gear for slow wall pours.
