Pulsejet powered World Models TameCat RC plane, maiden flight
Спорт
After a few delays and some last-minute changes to the fuel system so that the engine could draw fuel up the 8-inches between the tank-bottom and the spraybar, the first flight of the pulsejet-powered World Models TameCat has happened.
It's sure not lacking in power (10lbs thrust versus 7lbs flying weight) and it was damned fast!
Despite being a mild-mannered pussy-cat when powered by a regular glow-engine it's very apparent that under full jet-thrust I'm going to have to cut back the elevator throw a little. The TameCat is such a big pussy to fly once the power's off though - landing is a breeze!
The engine switched to lean-mode short-cycling when I pulled high-G's in the second turn so I'll have ti increase the fuel pressure some more and reduce the size of the fuel-metering jet so as to reduce the effect of hi-G's on fuel-flow.
With luck, I'll get the changes done and fly it again tomorrow!
Don't miss that video -- subscribe now.
And if you like what you see, tell World Models that they should offer a pulse-jet version with a few modifications. I'll let them have the necessary changes. This is the perfect pulsejet trainer!

I would think global warming as a political topic is a more powerful fuel to noise converter.

"That was a bit exciting!" Far out Bruce! Seems to be a great platform for the pulsejet. Nice work as always, Sir!
LOL. It does not get quieter as it gets farther away.
wow. You actually gave me hobby that is pretty cool. Ever since my friend introduced this kind of thing to me, I got more and more involved. thank you soooooooo much this is coolest thing I've ever done in my life. man what a thrill.
Well done Bruce, got to be one of the best conversions for a RC aircraft box set I've seen.
That's class, such a great fast flight and smooth landing. Keep up the quality work.
Great flying teamwork! Fantastic landing! Highly enjoyable! Short and to-the-point!
I was always curious about the pulse jet behind Bruce on the rcmodelreview videos. I finally get to see one fly. Nice!
very interesting and lots of fun by the looks and sounds of it , hope to see more flights real soon , cheers thanks for sharing .
Super aircraft, great first flight and landing!
congrats! your plane didn't fall apart under these forces. wow such a speed!
wonderful work guys. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, that thrust!
I thought I had seen everything, but this something new and mind-blowing. A pulse jet ! Wow ! Well done !

Nice!! I bet anyone living near your flying field must love you guys. ;-) That motor sounds like the sky is being ripped open..
Looking forward to the next flight, love it.
We all need runways like this.
I had a control line plane with this kind of engine when I was about 14. Coolest, most dangerous toy I ever owned.
The best with the pulsejet-engines is the sound!
luv it sounds just like the old v-1's from Germany great engineering!

Yes, I remember one crossing South Ruislip and heading for Harrow. Pulse sound was slower than this I recall.
Excellent Bruce,a doodle bug TameCat awesome keep up the good work. All the best David.

That pulse jet was just awesome!
that was amazing! perfectly balanced
Un merveilleux pilote ce brave
great plane the climb rate is awesome
Love your work!
Hella smooth flying 🤴
Ahhh the good ole days Bruce.
lol! great vid, i remember you saying this won't be as fast as other pulse jets, but damn that thing is fast!
well done Bruce! excellent flight..must also thank pit crew member Barry! excellent job barry! It seem that you have made him a bit of a you tube star bruce!
5-STARS !!! This is really cool - so glad i subscribed ! :)
Always cool to see this again and again.....
fantastic! greeting from Portugal and keep the good work
Lovely landing!
very nice...congrats....and thank you for the teaching...
Pulse Jet - Simple and gets the job done. So long as the job does not require thrust control beyond off to full frantic. Great test airframe. Control over speed.
Excellent work!
just love you guys. you duffers are my kind of crazy hahaha... thanks for all the fun....
This is awesome! What a speed!
your vids r always great Bruce
So good that landing!
Great job mate, you've just reinvented the V-1 Buzz Bomb albeit a faster version. Super landing!
Beautiful landing. I subscribed.
Mes respects mon vieux.... bravo
Wow, that's a fast plane !
Brrrrllint landing sir
Nice landing.
Cool sound, good job.
great work ! - i was impressed by the acceleration and how well the plane held a glide without all that power and the extra weight of the pulsejet on top. She seems very well trimmed out . How long can the PJ run for before u expend the rations onboard?
well done. iv followed this plane nice to see her up
Well done Sir ; ts quiet rare to see new technologies . Please keep your videos coming . Best regards from your fans

Good Flight, and that landing wasn't too bad either...
Great tail colors...The famous Jolly Rodgers!!
This guy shows jet flying guys are cool in the sun and fun under lean conditions. But not all jet guys are cut from the same sheet of stainless. the other day I filmed a crash land and was hounded for the footage. many happy pulse jet returns. you are a good jet guy in my book of fun activities
Now, that is frigging COOL!!
wow! A pulse jet and Jurassic Park. Good work man
Congrats Bruce.
Super job with fixing pulse jet problems. Not a bad pilot either!
Fast & loud, thumbs up, both of them..!!
nice landing, rc aircraft make landing full size planes look easy
Nice one mate and we can say that was a great little maiden even if it did cut out because it went to lean, can't wait for the mods to be done so we can see a longer flight mate = 5*

It didn't cut out when it went lean, he shut it off, which was the right thing to do, if you ever saw one fly you would understand.
very nice landing!
Beautiul. Great job!

Wow that is really something!
Great landing
Very nice!!...Yes, a cup of coffee to finish off a good test flight.

What shame no more flights of Bruce's Cruze Missile/V1 and such like. I thoroughly enjoyed watching its progress . Thanks Bruce..
well done dude, well done
Nice....love from India.. Thanks
Nice! Are you not concerned about the vert stabs disintegrating in the exhaust? Is that thick straight wing designed for those kind of flight loads?
WONDERFUL AND BEAUTIFUL!
i like it, simple and effective.
tremendous power
That thing looks like a flying razor blade! Doctor Phibes would be proud.
Nice power, way too loud for most flying fields and if you have to wear hearing protection its definitely too loud. Good going Bruce, I see you are allowed to fly again.
you are an expert flyer
Sounds great
Sheet Bruce that took off like a cut Cat!
Excelent landing

Nice one Mr Simpson
Sooo nice!
Make it bigger. And now you got yourself a V-1 German WW2 rocket
Haha i laughed so hard when the fuel was cut... In this state its more of a V-1 than a plane xDD Im just kiddn, so its no offense ^^
perfect engineering .
Seems like a small electric fuel pump with a proper regulator and return line system would fix the problematic and flaky nature of using a gravity feed for this type of engine. That way you have a controlled positive pressure that's very consistent, easily throttled, and can be cut off without the hazard that a pressurized tank would cause. Cool plane btw, even if it's loud as hell.

8 inches between the bottom of the fuel tank and the injector will cause problems at high G no matter what the pump pressure.
NIce landing!
