Pulsed Laser Deposition PLD Explained With Animations

Ғылым және технология

Pulsed laser deposition (PLD) is a technique that allows to prepare thin films of a variety of materials. In this method the target material is irradiated with laser in short pulses, creating a plume of plasma. Some of the extracted material then deposits on the substrate, forming a thin film. The properties of the film depend on the deposition parameters such as the temperature, environment, pulse length, radiation intensity, deposition time, distance between the target and the substrate etc. In this video we explain this technique in more detail with the help of 3D animations.

    Thank you so much for the comprehensive video. A lot of content on thin film deposition is created by Hindi-speaking educators... so here I am thinking that I hear a Hindi accent all the while... and then I see University of Tartu! Never jump to assumptions LOL!

    Pulsed lasers offer precise control, high ablation efficiency, and reduced thermal damage, making them suitable for depositing a wide range of materials with controlled thickness and properties

    In different sources, this method is said to be faster than others as an advantage, but it is mentioned that it is slow in this video, what do you think?

  • @CaptainCorrosion

    @CaptainCorrosion

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@madnus8925 Aye but "high quality" means completely different things for different applications and the quality of deposited films obviously also depends on the system that is used. So it comes down to the system, the application and deposition parameters. For instance, if you have a powerful laser, then you can deposit more material over a shorter period of time and the deposited film may be excellent for a specific application but not so good for something else.
