Pulse Jet Engine Start Up

Ғылым және технология

Starting up a brand new never run 10 lb thermojet engine. These engines couldnt be any easier to start, and can also be started by holding a flame to the intake.
These are not the junk spot welded engines you might see on ebay from time to time.

Shipping to AU should run around $30-$40, The engine itself with injector, spark plug, and Pulsejet CD is 300 USD.

You can get these engines to resonate by feeding them super hot gases, but the water isnt going to separate into hydrogen, then burn, and power the thing. Water will only decompose into hydrogen and oxygen at much much higher temperatures. If you stick a torch into the engine the flame will obviously cause the engine to run, but the same can be done with the plasma from a plasma cutter, and possibly with heat coils like in an electric rijke tube.

Regarding the idea of water dissociating and being used as the fuel: It will take energy to break up the water. The burning of the water will give some back, but not all. The net is a loss that must be supported by using more fuel. Water as a coolant or burn modifier is another matter.

What it really needs to increase performance and operate for longer is improving cooling!Try making a double wall pipe,or coil some copper tube on it with water flowing or attach fins to increase the surface!

This is great, any idea how much thrust you're generating there? So what fuel are you using, propane? Could you design a quieter engine?

@mattbackvass I would guess it depends on where you are standing. Probably 120-135 at where he is at and probably 140+at the very mouth.

hi from england.would this engine when warm run on steam vapour (as i am told that above 1600 degrees steam may vapour into hydrogen and oxygen) this could be achieved by placing a feed pipe within the chamber stainless of coarse

I make these and sell them, there are several people using them for everything from rc jet dragsters to rc planes.

I am not a mechanical engineer-just RF- so my question is-Is the secret of these to develop a way of running the jet without the heat generation- Is this down to the shape and/or size of the inlet/ignition/power pulse tube? If all that heat could be turned into mechanical power??? Is the secret in the detail? I have looked at the engine on the Blackbird, a hybrid jet/pulse. Have the military got something that the rest of the industry has yet to develop? Colinward1000

I think not, only thing you would end up is superheated steam. Theres a fairly easy way to make hydrogen with some liquid plumber + aluminium foil balls. I tried to make a torch with the liquid plumber and alu, but i ignited the torch when there was still a bit of oxygen in the bottle... Well you guess that the thing just blew up on me :(
