Pull Rope Not Engaging! [[Johnson 15 hp]]

With time running out to get the skiff rebuild finished in time to go to the beach. The last thing I thought i would be doing is working on my kicker motor. My dad bought this thing back in the 90's when we took the skiff to the beach all the time. Since he passed the boat down to me. It has never given me a moment’s trouble. Although it hasn’t been used much in the last few years. It never fails. Things will go wrong when your in a huge rush.
I was a little frustrated when I got the 15 hp Johnson mounted up and went to pull the rope. No one was home. The rope would just pull out with little to no effort. Obviously not turning the motor over. Having never done much of anything to this motor. My only option was to start tearing into it and see what I could find wrong.
I have a long running love hate relationship with pull ropes. They are great when they work and the motor starts like it should. When the motor won’t crank or the rope breaks. It is a big pain in the shoulder. I have pulled till my arm felt like it was going to fall off. Then pulled some more.
Pull ropes mostly all work the same. When you pull the rope. A dog comes out and catches the flywheel and turns the motor over. Therefore once you figure one out. You have a idea of how they all work. This one was no different. Just a little more evolved than a Briggs and Stratton.
I didn’t have time to make a in depth video of fixing my old Johnson. Thankfully it was very simple and didn’t take but a few minutes. I hope someone in the same boat will find this short video helpful. Thank you for taking the time to watch and I hope you will subscribe!

My Johnson was locked up but this inspired me to tear into my 2 stroke. Thanks for the video. It helped get my motor spinning again.
