Puget Sound Shark Fishing. Not Dogfish!
Спорт
You are not allowed to target sevengill sharks in Puget Sound. Unfortunately, it is hard not to catch them when you are trying to catch soupfin sharks. They can be a pain and I show you why in this video. They are a really cool species of shark.
THANK YOU for watching! Be sure to leave a THUMBS UP if you liked the video and SUBSCRIBE for more videos coming in hot!

looks so fun! and i didn’t know we could get/keep these here! always learning something new from Brett !
wow, what a catch! seven gill shark, first time I've heard of or see it. really cool. Loves those orcas too!

Thanks. They are a species of cow sharks the most primitive sharks.
That shark made you work for it. Twisting, biting thing. It still amazes me how many species are out there I know nothing of. Reading some of your comments, it is true for sharks as well. Very cool!

He sure did. There are 11 species of shark in these waters. It is amazing the different species in the gulf vs the pacific.
That shark was so trying to take a piece of your buddy. 😮 That was a cool orca encounter!
Hopefully you get your soupfin. I have only came across dogfish as bycatch in my fishing adventures around the sound. Tight lines my friend.

I hope so too! No shortage of dogfish. I'm sure if everyone salmon fishing took them home and ate them the population would be decimated pretty quickly.
that looked like alot of fun, always wanted to catch a shark!..great video bro!👍💪

Thank-you. They are fun to catch.
Wow cool looking sharks - congrats on a great outing! I'm glad none of those fish bit your hands - looked like they were thrashing and trying to bite towards where you were holding them. Thanks for sharing and tight lines! Captain Zac

Yeah definitely try and bite you. Sorry for some reason this comment only shows up when I look on the mobile app and not the computer
This looks like such a fun game for fighting with sea creature, hopefully you have great fun and enjoy the entertainment game. New species for your references: there are many different type of Arctic freshwater fishing in northern Alaska, we had tried to fish Arctic Grayling, Arctic Char, etc. and as well as arctic cod in the salt water...
@PeelingLine

I hope to go to Alaska for all their species. There is a lake in Washington that has grayling. You have to hike to it.
Pretty cool but I’ve heard holding a fish by the tail to lift out of the water can mess them up as it can separate their vertebrae. It was a big no no when I sold salmon to lift the fish by the tail and did cause spinal bleeding into the meat. Sharks may be tougher than salmon of course and I know they are challenging to hold as they are so squirmy with a biting mouth.
@PeelingLine

Thank-you. They definitely are tougher than salmon. They also have cartilaginous spines which are more flexible. I think if we were damaging their vertebrae we would see it when they were swimming away and a bunch would be washing ashore from internal bleeding.
Those sharks are insanely cool! Super jealous of that!
That around kopachuck? Or fox island?
Sharks are some of the coolest fish in the ocean. The way that Rascal ties itself in the line, it's almost as bad as catching an eel, Haha. Seeing that Orca was totally awesome.

The orcas were much better in person. They swam in with the tide and there were 7 of them. The video is when they were swimming out with the tide. I agree with them being the cool fish. They can be a pain though and you have to retie after they do this.
Where’s this at?
nice man, didn’t even know we had those sharks in the puget sound!

Wow now that's something new! Didn't know you had shark species as potential targets there. Sure doesn't look like the kind a place one would catch a shark haha

Right! The water is shallow and you can catch them in the day time. There are quite a few species of shark in our waters. I hope to do some night fishing for them. Here is an image of all the sharks in Puget Sound not including the great white. external-preview.redd.it/n9PyzQvBzJ3W8xA07i7ohtGJWDXSlRywM69NZ77zD-8.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=18c5d55bffadebc2b7f81913770123e661b01a4f

@PeelingLine

@@lesstalkmorefishing1000 The basking shark is a filter feeder and feeds on plankton. It would be tough to catch but people have done it salmon fishing. 3 on the list (sixgill, sevengill and thresher) you can't target. But if you are fishing for sharks, skates or halibut you may get them as by catch. So potentially yes but I haven't found any on people catching most of those around here.
Cool catch. Not sure if we have soupfin or sevengill sharks up here.

You can't target 7gill sharks in Washington. This also isn't my spot to share.
The seven gill sharks were my favorite catches in this video. The Orca footage was my second favorite part, would be nice to get some underwater footage of them.
@PeelingLine
Жыл бұрын
It would be tough to get underwater footage of them. Even when the water is really clear they don't get close enough to film. You're not allowed to pursue them either. Although there is a bunch of charters where they do just that.
@Grouperhunter

Peeling Line I understand. I look forward to seeing more footage of Orcas that get close to you while fishing, and seeing what you catch in your next video.
Amazing Viode. I know it's a question not supposed to be asked, but can you at least let me know which side of Puget Sound is this. Please don't share your honey hole, but at least a place where I can try catching one :)
What general area of sound is this in?

Can u target sharks any time of year? And do u need anything more than your basic fishing license to fish for them in Washington? Asking as a fellow angler because I'd like to try this it looks like a blast
@PeelingLine
5 ай бұрын
Yes there aren't seasons for sharks. Just need salt water license. You can't target 7 gill, 6gill or threshers but you will get them fishing for soupfin or sturgeon. Just make sure you don't remove the 6gills from the water.
I've never caught those kind of sharks before. I've got dogfish and a 12 ft. basking shark i thought they ate only plankton. Those sevengill are cool looking It's amazing what we got in Puget Sound. Was that deep water where you are fishing? Nice video ...🎣
@PeelingLine
Жыл бұрын
Thanks. Not very deep. Maybe 40 feet at most. Although you'd think it was much deeper with those orca swimming by. How did you get a basking shark?
When you're fishing for shark, what type of line were you using ?
@PeelingLine

I think in this it was 65 pound power pro mainline. I used 200 pound steel wire with haywire loop for the leader.
Always fun catching Sharks no matter what species. Cool environment to be catching them from shore also.

How about we leave the sharks alone and let marine biologists and scientists do what they need to do. Leave sharks alone, just like any other fish they get trama from it and we also shouldn’t be condoning to fish sharks for fun.

Is this in Olympia
What area of puget sound is this. It looks like case inlet area
Are those thresher sharks? I heard that they’re very good to eat. Awesome catch Brett 👍👍

Thanks. No the soupfin sharks are hound sharks and the sevengill sharks are cow sharks. There are thresher sharks here but you aren't allowed to fish for them. The third species you can't fish for is the sixgill shark which is also a cow shark but you can't even take those out of the water.

@@208flatheads3 I wasn't targeting either species though. I was trying to catch a soupfin shark. WDFW messaged me about the video asking if I was targeting 7 gills. So I think they care. Too bad about the shut downs. Washington has the worst fishing rules.
Pretty, interesting-looking species, but, boy, can they curl around and nail you! Hope you soon get your target species!
