@LivingSimplyinMexico I my self as a child would go with my parents to visit my grandparents in Zacatecas and I loved it. Now we go visit my parents with grandkids. Never in a million years did I think I would have my parents live so far. But its not about me it's about them. They worked very hard so they can have the life they have now. They are back in Zacatecas in a small town where everyone knows you by name or I say My grandma's name and they know exactly who I am. I love going and one day I wish to build somewhere by the ocean like you guys. I say somewhere else because I can't see my self living in the same town without them in the future if no longer with us. They are happy with goats, chickens, my moms cats lol, my dads sheep and everything from a turtle to the security of thd house Coyo and Zimba the dogs that are like my brothers I never had as a child lol 😆.

Thanks for the walk around. (great murals) Hope you both are well by now. I "think" I'd like to brave the heat and live in Mexico full time. My wife's not as sure (yet). There was a time when we both embraced Canadian winters and were active throughout the seasons. But as we age winter is not as fun and we tend to hibernate. I'm not saying we would not visit PV But I truly HATE crowds and we are leaning more towards Brighton's area. But we will see. Enjoy. P n D

Excellent! We have a lot of Canadian friends in your shoes and actually we don't mind the heat. For us (as you might imagine), we really enjoy the stimulation of more city life and wanting to be in the heart of everything. The one thing I'd say though about Puerto Vallarta is that the crowds are more on the Malecon and Romantic Zone, so you can avoid crowds somewhat. If you are looking for a lonely beach, that is a little harder to come by. We should do a video with Brighton on the differences someday (Brighton is a great guy).

  • @AdaWells

This video is wonderful! First time seeing you guys. We live in the states. We retire at the end of 2025 but are seriously considering applying for Mexican residency soon as we know already where we’ll be retiring. Like you, we’ll probably bounce back to the states a bit (and to other countries) but home will be in Mexico. We already volunteer with the animal shelters and have made many Mexican national friends that have provided us with great resources and connections so our transition will be a little less chaotic. Anyway, looking forward to seeing more videos of your adventures. Thanks!

Hey Daniel, will show a little nightlife in our next video. In general Puerto Vallarta is very safe and there is a lot of nightlife, shows, music, etc. all within walking distance from our area in El Cerro near the romantic zone. The colonias are very different from tourist to local to rustic to fancy. It is a super wonderful place to be… there is a downside of course with inflation and the drop in exchange rate, it is pretty pricey. If you live more like a local this still can be contained. We are not sure on rents, but we do believe if you are down here a bit in a temporary home, you can seek out a better deal. There is lower cost if you can establish relationships. Also, it is much cheaper to rent annually vs. just high season. If you want to check out PV during low season during hot summer months, this is the best time rent temporarily at a lower cost. Hope this helps a bit. All the best on your journey!

I've been thinking about doing a "full-timer" vs "part-timer" video. There are pluses and minuses of each. Right now, I'm really hating that I'm part-time and missed out on Dia de Muertes and the Baja 1000. 😞

We don’t have much understanding of the rental market, but what I do know is most folks land temporarily and look around, as the best deals are when you start getting to know the neighborhood and folks. Sometimes folks have space that they rent to people they already have relationships with… these are the best deals.

I hear ya! One of our friends that you’ll see on a few videos is from central Alberta. Location really depends on what you are looking for. We like from Gringo Gulch to Cinco de Diciembre, but depends on how sensitive you are to hills, noise, etc. high season can be difficult. A number of Canadians we know rent the entire year because the Low season is inexpensive and they can keep their items south. You may want to consider a longer term AirBNB booked early to scope things out for the following years. Best to build connections for the best deal. Know this is not the answer you are looking for, but hope it helps!
