Well, the New Yorican pride is always being expressed as based on their being black. The rest of their mixture is never mentioned. In fact, they speak against whiteness and against their Spaniard ancestry. So although they are supposedly Puerto Rican, they differ drastically from how the vast majority of island Puerto Ricans view themselves.

My paternal grandmother was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. My father passed away in 1995, so I can't have his DNA tested. I had my mother's tested, which helped me determine what I inherited from my father. My mother is 100% European, all northwest, Slavic, Scandinavian. My DNA from my father's side is Portuguese, Spanish, Basque, 1% North African, 9% Sub-Saharan African including Bantu people, Cameroon, Senegal, Mali and I think Nigerian. I'm 4% Indegenous Puerto Rican and 1% Native North American. Also Ashkenazi, which was surprising. I thought I would be Sephardic. My mother and her 2 sisters were tested. I had my mom and her older sister tested, her younger sister tested a while back. Now they both passed away. Anyway, the 3 of them all share the same genetics but slightly different percentages. Pretty cool.

Tainos results always show up as Native American. I am also Puerto Rican but lighter complexion ( white ), I have close to same results but not the same percentages but add middle eastern and Irish. I did some Spanish History research and found out that in earlier times they would hire Irish mercenaries, etc to fight for Spain. Middle Eastern due to the moors and Romans being in Iberia for 800 years(?). Could be why we get Irish hits too (Roman)? Or like someone said Galicean.

It is interesting that according to studies by Dr Juan Martinez Cruzado from University of PR, the mitocondrial DNA is native american for about 2/3 of Puerto Ricans, about 1/4 African and 1/10 European. Since mitocondrial DNA is transmitted by women , this indicates that at the beginning of the colonization most women were native american or descending from them and later there was a substantial influx of African miticondrial contribution.

Or it could be just an European ginger ? I'm from the SW . Which tend to have more lighter skinned people . Blonds and light eyes are a bit more frequent than other regions . My mom is blond with hazel eyes . One of my sisters and I are blonde . It could be fun to do a test just to see how mixed I am .

Around the mid 1700's there was an arrival of Ashkenazi Jews, which many Puerto Ricans will find 1% or more in their dna results. Middle Eastern, North African, the Levant can be found also, indicating Sefardí

I'm Puerto Rican and my DNA results were crazy.lol. I was 70% European mostly Spanish, Portuguese and surprise... Scandinavian and Irish, 15% Native American mostly Taino no surprise there and 8% African a huge surprise mostly from the Congo and Senegambia. And 6% from the Middle East mostly from what is now Iraq, Syria,Jordan, Israel and Lebanon, 1% from East Asia related to the Native American result. I think that I look like a very average light-skin Puerto Rican. All my great grandparents were born in Puerto Rico so I had a very slight idea about the countries of origin of my ancestors. All that was passed down was through oral history, no documents, not even physical things passed down. For example my mom's side they say that they're Basques from France and Spanish from Toledo and that the family from Toledo came to the Canary Islands and from there to Cuba, Colombia and Puerto Rico where they moved to Utuado in the mountains. At age 13 my grandparents that were cousins said to me that we're Jews but not in the sense of a religion just that we were like gypsies from Jerusalem and that some of the things we do are from that tradition especially reusing names within the family but NEVER between parents and children, never throwing any bread in the trash, and when someone died not dressing in black and not telling anyone outside the family also not tell anyone outside the family that we were Jews. And after buring someone that had passed we had food in the house and slept together in the floors and sofas of the house of the person that had died for a week and it was very private and away from the church but the main tradition was to celebrate the 13 birthday with a banquet and revealing the Jewish gypsy Jerusalem details. On my father's side I had a grandmother with natural strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes who had absolutely no idea of her family's origins and my grandfather was a very handsome trigueño (Taino looking). I never met my father's father but on a picture I saw of him he looked like he had a big Roman nose but very very dark black skin m, tall and skinny. My father witnessed my great grandmothers funeral where her hair was braided and corn was placed in her casket so she could take it to the next world. According to my father my grandmother was a pure Taina.

The dilemma with autosomal DNA is that Southern European could come from one recent 4th great Grand parent or from half a dozen or more 1-8th grand parents. MFTDNA does a break down of Hunter Gatherer, Farmer and Metal Age invaders. Which is interesting. The Upside of DNA and Genealogy is that it challenges everyone’s concept of race and what they have been taught. I think in Puerto Rico that you have a lot of isolation between villages because of the rugged terrain and lack of good transportation.

They travel and become citizens of many countries of America and specifically of the Caribbe. But the Canary Islanders are considered Iberians, North Africans or Guanches Aborigens? Sometimes this test just give general answers and are not very useful. Sometimes is eassyer check the names, or even the accent talking to discover your own origin.

First of all evidence was found in the Isla Mona, an unihabited island that belong to PR, that what people thought were scratches, were found to be, a few years ago to be ancient Hebrew, verified by real Jewish rabbis experts in Ancient Hebrew. For a long time no one could tell where the Tainos came from, they just seem to have appeared. The experts who made the determination also determined that they were from the "lost" tribe of Ephraim, mentioned by the prophet Ezekiel as "one of the two stick, one for Judah and one for Joseph". (Book of Ezekiel). One of my great grandfathers was a Taino. That is not all, there are areas of PR where you can find people with red hair. (My former son in law from the USA, was suprised because he had never seen as many before, he has red hair.) So where did they come from (been following my Irish ancestors back thousands of years). From hostages/slaves that the British brought to the Caribbean to make sure their families did not fight back. This was in the late 1500's. Many escaped and/or were rescued by privateers and taken to what is now PR, where they were given sanctuary. There was actually a short battle between the British slavers and the people of PR, when the British tried to take them back. They lost. I can trace my ancestors way, way back because of who they were. One of my ancestors was Fiachu, son of the High King Niall Noígíallach. This is the first time I run into this channel, so I don't know if you red hair is from Ireland. My family has had people with red hair in ever generation, the most current, my brother's son and daughter. So that is that story about the Puerto Rican Irish. (By the way, being who Fiachu and his father were, I have been able to trace my family line ever farther back. Started when I as in my 20's and I am now 76. Another by the way, legend is that it was Fiachu who kidnapped Patrick when he was still a kid, he later released him. Also, our particular line is supposed to have a curse by either Patrick or one of his follower, I believe the second because Fiachu did release Patrick.)

@@goodaimshield1115 Of course they can get these results. Spaniards don't typically get 100% "Iberian" otherwise it would be pointless for any European to take DNA tests. She is only 4.0% broadly Western Asian and North african and the only 23andme test by an actual Spaniard I have found on KZread (not many Spaniards take this test) shows around 13% West Asia and North Africa. Here it is. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aJWhyqqdiMbglaQ.html On one thing you are right. Most MENA ancestry in Spaniards doesn't show up in these tests because the mix happened too long ago so the bulk of it shows up simply as part of the sub-region's ancestry. There was no Middle Eastern migration to Puerto Rico btw and this DNA is not West Asian it is just unassigned MENA ancestry meaning likely North African from Spaniards. Most probably from Canarios. On average this region of Spain has around 26% North African ancestry and much of Spanish ancestry in Cubans, Dominicans and Puerto Ricans is from settlers from Canarias.

They teach us at school that we’re all mixed, and at least in Puerto Rico WE DO consider Haiti as our cousins.

Was just thinking.. For this group to be mixed in these ways… It’s odd how bias some of them are.. One would think they would be an example to the rest of the world. Instead there’s so many prejudices and biases inward/outward… Crazy!!!

Whenever Anglos and Afros choose Puerto Ricans for this kind of thing, they always choose the most physically sub Saharan ones in order to propagate their warped personal opinion more effectively. Sorry for noticing, but it just stands out too much.
