One big news you glanced on is that myFTDNA is freezing trees by Aug 31 and you will now link to MyHeritage for your tree. You can migrate your tree from myFTDNA to MyHeritage or link to a tree you have there. You attach your kit to the person in your tree and you can do multiple kits. You do your Match Linking on myFTDNA, but it is linked to the MyHeritage person. If you are like me where I maintain my tree on Ancestry and refresh MyHeritage from time to time, you would need to relink to the new tree or keep your old tree on MyHeritage that you started your linking on. Your Y-DNA might be able to match further back then 5 gens. Genealogy TV covered it today with a representative from FTDNA. They are also working on having a single account with multiple kits.

Sunny Hosten just about had her black card pulled when she found out she was a descendant of slave owners. I can't recall if the slave owner was white or black. Either way, it cost her a spot on the olympic oppression team, and caused her to lose her spot in line for receiving reparations!

Well we all descended from Adam and Eve so if all races in the world came from them then what that tells me is that Adam was black and eve white or eve black and adam white. Its why as Christian i cant understand hating anyone because of their color. God loves diversity. Its built into all creation.

I have more than 25% Taino and my mom and dad have a little more. I have noticed during my search that some of my family in the census was put down as mestizo which is native and European blood. Its crazy to me because the natives on the island went through genocide and basically was wiped out or mixed in with European settlers and mostly African slaves because they lived together and were slaves together. As hundreds of yrs pass you would think the island would only share a very small percentage of native blood as the Spanish settlers and slaves grew in numbers. By the 1600s more than 75% of the native population was killed off by the Spanish and yet a lot of puerto rican share a large number of their dna.

Ha, ha, that last comment makes me feel like finding an excuse to have my Great Grandmother exhumed, so I can get a degraded DNA sample from her! I don't understand how to use the chromosome etc information at all or whether it can help me try & identify which one of my early 19th century ancestors has the surprising ethnic ancestry.

My ancestors where Spanish french and Italian but I have no idea of their genetics. It could be anything and I don't care. I see black people give it a great importance to being african descendent. I believe a person is the way they are. Point. It has nothing to do with race.

Find a grave provides a welcome beneficial service to the public. I think family members such as children, spouses, and siblings should have priority as to "managing" their departed family member's "memorial". In other words non relatives should be encouraged to give up management to bona fide family members should the family member so desire. Or at least there should be a 30 day "quiet period" after someone dies or gets interred during which only family members can create the "memorial". Should someone have information about family members who I have lost information as to when they passed and/or where their graves are I hope that they add information so that the Find a Grave data that I have compiled about family members can be extended. There are people who are sort of de facto "cemetery stewards" who try to catalog new burials in "their" cemetery on Find a Grave I believe.

So true. I always thought I was more Irish. But through my genealogy research it wasn’t matching up. My DNA shows I’m 48% Scottish which lines more up with my research. What’s crazy is my family on both sides have been American since the later 1600’s to the early 1700’s. Genetics is a curious thing.

Sorry your intro needs correction . 450k slaves came to the USA. The other 10-12million went to South America. Most black Americans today are not going to have huge ties to the transatlantic slave trade. You've given the perfect history lesson on why we can't pay reparations. It's to complicated.
