Public Service Announcement: How to disassemble T120 T140 vintage Triumph rear wheel hubs
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Who would have thought? Vintage Triumph hubs are tricky to disassemble! Even with the manual...
But I figured it out, and here I show you how to do it.
Please, haters, I'm not a Triumph expert, I don't know exactly which bikes this is applicable to, I'm just doing it on a clients bike. its already been chopped and modified, so I can't verify what the parts are originally from.

Man I wish you would have filmed this from when you were taking it apart
I too had been puzzling over this with my 1970 Bonneville ! Great instructions!
This type of destructive bearing removal, can be done without damage using a blind hole bearing puller.
A tremendous video instruction! I have a T120 Bonneville. I was absolutely confused from the instruction in the manual and haven't been willing to punch the center distance piece/tube. There has to be a bearing extractor that will work! I tried driving the Left out by pounding on the right side. I managed to move it almost 1/2 way. But then sudden stoppage. Now I'm looking for a bearing extractor.
I gotta add my big thank you for doing this video. Just spent a long time puzzling over two manuals for my 68 Bonne and making no sense at all. Still doesn’t make sense why the Brits did things this way, but at least I can figure it out now.
I'll be selling mine before I do this. I heard these blokes were drinking on the job at the old factory. I guess the engineering dept. was drinking the hard stuff. What a croc!
Best way I have found for getting wheel bearings out is to use a rawbolt of the right size, tighten it firmly into the inner race and us a drift from the ither side to knock it out. Sometimes you need to do a bit of modifying of the rawbolt to get it to grip.

Raw bolt?
If you want to make it a bit easier for next time, drill a 1/4" hole in the middle of the spacer tube. A piece of rod with a small 90 deg bend can be inserted into the hole to drive the spacer and bearing out.
Great thanks 👍🏼
Thanks my man
I tried this but I still couldn't get the spacer to break free. There's not much of a lip to catch the punch on inside the spacer. Eventually I jammed 2 thin chisels opposite each other inside the spacer, wedging tight enough to grip the inside wall of the spacer. Then I was able to press on the long chisel with a small hydraulic press, and get both bearings out.
great vid, thanks, but is that speedo drive RIGHT or LEFT hand thread?...i ask because im trying to get one OUT!

If it is a T140 it is on the right hand side so is a left hand thread. T160s are on the left so are presumably a right hand thread.
Thanks!

...hello; seems that you are a Harley guy (hence your logo?). Only to say that may be change the title due to no any T140 with this type of hub. This hub came up to 1970; no 750 (T140) at that time. T140 s hubs are more complex.

Cool mate, thanks for the extra detail, not really an expert in any particular bike but I know zero about old Triumphs and this bike belonged to someone else. Appreciate you taking the time to comment, that should help other viewers. Cheers!
