Your advice is greatly appreciated here in trying to help those of us with thin wallets enjoy the fun motorcycles can bring to our lives. I have been an avid rider for 50+ years. Suspension next to Engine, and brake performance are always the magical combination that make a good motorcycle great if dialed in correctly. I will save that extra $$ in order to buy quality bits to upgrade those suspenders. it is worth while at the end of the day. Safe riding to everyone.

I don't have any of those mid-sized bikes, I don't ride those mid-sized bikes, and yet here I am, watching all the way through to see what your experience was like. +1 for the FB marketplace guy who took the shocks back - that's top-notch right there: I tip my helmet to him.

I had Hagon Road shocks Classic I - Application Type A for a few years on my T100. They were 185€ at the time in Belgium. They were somewhat better than stock. At least the 'getting launched into space mode' after a bump was turned off. But even those are way over your self-inflicted budget limit. If you keep the Bonneville at the end of this series, you're free of this limit. Get some YSS suspension or the likes and do the front as well. I was so surprised what came out of the front. They are similar to what you find in a ballpoint.

Lol thanks for sharing this, because I'm glad others understand how unpleasant the getting launched into space-mode is 😆 and yup, the plan is whatever motorcycle I end up keeping in the end, I will modify, well, once the series is over, no more budget :)

Really enjoyed this vid and thanks for the heads up on what is coming up next on your vids on this retro project. When I bought my 2013 Bonneville SE, I was really surprised at the suspension on the bike I also went looking for suspension options and concluded unless I want to spend 500 or more on shocks it was not worth it, the bike is wonderful, if I ride it the way it was designed to be ridden then the bike handles just fine, too bad suspension wasn't a bit less expensive but well if I wanted a fast good handling bike I would not have bought a Bonneville. Great vid really enjoying this series. Cheers.

I've been riding 45 years, had 90 bikes and the Triumph Bonneville T100 has the worst suspension I've ever experienced, it really is that woeful. It's harsh, crashy, noisy, rock hard and makes a rider feel like he's done 8 rounds with Mike Tyson....made my V Strom feel like a low miles Gold Wing. HTF could they release it to market is crazy, but to keep turning them like this for years is incredible. Just goes to show people will buy anything if the marketing is good enough😂

lol thanks for the laugh. You're right. Luckily suspension is upgradeable, so they can make it, people will buy it, and those who know better (and can afford it) will find ways of making it better.

But Öhlins tho?! Lol On real note, I see how ya mentioned more possibilities for upgrades on the Moto Guzzi because of how cheap ya got it. Seems pretty limited to fixing the bonnie just because of budget limits. *Inserts rants from RE fans how it's cheaper in some country we're not in, so it should matter to use to buy it.* So, looking forward to what happens to Moto Guzzi next! 😁

Right!? Wish Ohlins were in the budget. I guess technically they could be on the Guzzi, but... that would be serious overkill for such an underpowered and relatively inexpensive bike. That V7 looks (and runs) so much better than it did before though! How tall are you though? Might not be a good fit if you're on the taller side. Also, are you on the YN discord? Is it any good? I might get back in there. Anywhere else I should check out?

@@YouMotorcycle Öhlins is absolute overkill on the cheap bike, lol. But not going that high end also opens up other stuff, lol. I'm legit like 6'1", my legs are too long for Moto Guzzi, I tried, lol I left YN when I couldn't pay to play anymore. But been in Blockhead's community which is also pay to play, I like the community more, but it's much more HD dudes in there, bit rare of other types of riders. But mainly great how chilled they are & fact they appreciate the "Spice of five" variety. {Touring, Bar hopper, off roading, race bike, and small lightweight} But since not paying to play, I more so been in local groups to find people to ride with & such. It's more refreshing to being around bikers who don't worry if you're on ADV/Sport Bike/Cruiser classes so much as just enjoy riding together.

Any Guzzi I've ridden rides sooooo much better than a T100😮

It's ridiculous to the point of rip off how much some aftermarket parts cost. I mean, like $700 for a pair of Arrow mufflers? Really? I'm sorry but a muffler is just an oblong metal tube with some chambers inside it. Triumph bikes aren't cheap bikes. Triumphs should come with better shocks. They cheaped out on the suspension. KTM makes their own shocks and is the only company doing so, far as I know. So you get better shocks from KTM b/c they don't have to buy them from somebody else. I wonder if Interceptor shocks would fit the Bonneville? Are those shocks better? You can get a like new pair for like 60 dollars. I think the whole motorcycle shock thing is a racket (overpriced for what you get), along with the mufflers and a bunch of other stuff. I can get a strut for my car for $100 OEM.

You make a good point. Harley is notoriously guilty of bad OEM suspension on their motorcycles too, and they're supposed to be premium machines.

$100 suspension? No wonder you couldn't find anything better.
