To be fair - I met that Rally because I started a day early. However, as you’ll see later, it’s not a traffic-free route!

I’ve been waiting for the videos since u got back. And I am not disappointed . Great video and awesome effort

Thanks Paul. A lot of effort went into making this work and I dropped a Ton of material to keep the pace moving.

Stunning video Simon! I guess you decided not to bring the drone? Definitely the right choice when you can still shoot this sort of footage! Also, I'm rather in awe of your cool headedness when confronted by some of those idiot drivers. I would have been fuming.

These are excellent but might I suggest "stitching them" together also, as one long video? As you may have noticed from the number of views for your latest video - depending on the subject - longer videos do, do well on youtube. There is a place for 8-minute videos but yours deserve longer. People enjoy spending time with certain presenters. You are one such person.

I'll let you into a secret - I have. I was hanging onto that one, initially planning to enter it into a film festival. But I've done nothing with it and sort-of moved on. Perhaps I out to release it over Christmas? Thanks very much for the idea.

Great film, brought it back for me esp some gravel sections my brain had blocked! We also started a day early but only to Viu on the first day. We missed all that crazy traffic, so apart from motorbikes we didn’t have the cars on the gravel climbs. I hope people realise these roads are normally very quiet. Second day we did Colombardo, Finestre and ran out of time for the Assieta so rode the Colle de Sestriere and an 11pm finish. Similar time the next day off the Agnello so i think I would do something like your plan if (when) I do it again.

Interesting you’d do it again Huw. I’ve run these videos past James Olsen and he made the same point about the traffic which is why I changed my words to emphasise I wouldn’t have met that rally had I not started a day early. That said, there were quite a few cars in the sections to come…

@@alwaysanotheradventure yes I would as we didn’t do the Assieta, Death road or the longer section of the Via del Sale. Plus we were pretty fatigued and missed the gravel Turini ride so I’d like to do the alternative routes. Also we didn’t use the Refugios and I’d like to do that. Oh and cross over the Agnello in daylight 😂

Great start but would love a bit more coverage. I’m thinking about doing this in the future and would love as much information as possible 😁

Thanks. There are links to written articles about all the kit choices in the video description. I can’t really remember the answer right now (I’m doing another ride) so hope the answer is there.

HI Simon; can I ask - regarding logistics, did you transport your bike via plane in a bike box, and if so what did you do with the box while you were riding the route for those 10 days? IF someone was storing your kit, how would you have dealt with your bike box etc if you didnt have somewhere to store them? Thanks, Stevie :-)

None of those vehicles was as close as the VW Beetle that CLOSE PASSED me on Friday in Sandbach, so I don't know what your complaining about. Funnily enough, the same VW Beetle CLOSE PASSED me this time last year in more or less the same place. If it happens a 3RD TIME, I may get very suspicious and begin hating Beetle drivers as much as Audi's. Sorry that was off topic - Wonderful video and I enjoyed every second. Definatly a ride worth seeing first hand I think, just not with so many tin boxes around 🤬

@@alwaysanotheradventure The most embarrassing close passer I have ever had was on a Sunday morning many years ago, when this grey Volvo passed me doing a zillion miles an hour up a motorway bridge approach. Up went my middle digit and the Volvo screamed to a halt with smoke flying off the tyres and out got the driver who set out walking back towards the approaching me. When we met he called me a c*n* and a bar steward and my reply was how dare he cast aspersions upon the pre wedding activities of my mother and father and if he continued to use such language I would have words with his boss - The Archdeacon of Chester if I was correct and going by the dog collar - it could have been fake - only people in the bicycling religion aren't close passers it seems.

Brilliant, I love the Clanger on the front! Question, are you wearing flat shoes? Judging by the terrain, I'm guessing a pair of flat walking shoes would be better than say mtb shoes?

The Clanger is Rosie - she hiked the Pacific Crest Trail with us 20 years ago - and she's not happy that she wasn't introduced to the world 😁. It took me a while to work out the best shoes. I wanted SPDs for the road but needed something with a good Vibram sole for hiking. I found them in the Giro Rumble (amzn.to/3dv5tyy) of which I saw a few pairs because we had to take them off before going upstairs in the Refuge Gardetta (and I nearly took the wrong pair). They're linked in the video description and will feature in the 5th video about my kit choice coming o 16th Oct.

Hi Ajmal - it's really difficult to decide what to put into a video and how long to make it. I broke my ride into 4 shorter videos (next one tonight) because, in the long term, I think that's how more people will watch them on YT, even though they actually work well as a 30 minute film. Most viewers might watch but not want to enter a ride like this, so the practical stuff like 'how to enter' I've kept separate. (Details of how to enter might change, so keep an eye on the TNR website and socials from January). There's a 5th video on 16th Oct going through lots of practical info about kit. As I say in this video, there's MUCH more linked from the Resources page of my website (AlwaysAnotherAdventure.com/resources) with links to mapping and articles I've written specifically to address practical questions not covered in the videos. Often an article can set out these things better than a video. There are 20 videos in my TNR Playlist on KZread, and include an interview with the organiser James Olsen where he answers the question you asked. But I'm pleased you still want more... 😁

I have watched the interview with James Olsen and have contacted him as I am still unsure how to formally apply. I will keep trying. @@ajmalismail7846 I have to be slightly careful how I say this - not because of you I promise - but because there are things I know about that might change how the application process to the TNR works. So follow Torino Nice Rally on Facebook and join the Riders Group - that's where details will be published first, probably in January. And keep an eye on their website's Update page. For my ride, in January THIS year, James announced a 'theme' for the postcards and the address to send them, then when they appeared on the TNR Insta page we knew they had been received. That's the first stage. No point in working too much out just now because, as I say, things might change...

This is from the blog post about my kit - what worked what didn't. "My Camino is set up 1by and I dropped from a 42T to 34T chainring, then boosted the cassette from 11-42 to 11-46. I hoped to get 11-50 but the gears didn’t shift smoothly. I had been warned that, on the TNR, you’re either cranking slowly uphill or freewheeling down, so you can’t gear low enough. You being hit by a car and the driver not stopping to ask if you were OK is unacceptable. The driver should be charged. I hope all is well otherwise.
