PT cruiser 2.4 Cylinder head removal "continued from part 1 troubleshooting"

Here is a link to part 1
• PT cruiser 2.4 Misfire...
In this video demonstration I cover how to remove the cylinder head on a 2001 PT cruiser, now this is just how i do it to it, its not step by step from a manual by no means, just past experiences leading the future lol you kind of make your own guide after time hope you enjoy

Bought a PT Cruiser recently for 200 bucks. Has a new trans, new radiator, and a bunch of other new stuff and a blown head gasket. If I can have the head milled I should be able to have a nice driver on the cheap!

I've got a blown head gasket in my '03 PT Cruiser (which has otherwise been very reliable for 14 years and 96,000 miles!). Love it too much to junk it, so I'm going to repair it myself if I can, which is quite a stretch for me. Your videos are extremely helpful -- thanks!

Pt cruisers are notorious for over heating because of water pump shaft seal going bad and then the car over heats. If not immediately resolved then the head gasket and head problems happen. I’d say you have a bad head gasket and possibly a warped head. If you get down to changing out the water pump ,timing belt, tensioner ,and idler pulley. The newer tensioner isn’t spring loaded. Timing belt slack can only get taken out by turning the engine crankshaft counter clockwise. All belt slack has to go to the tensioner and not clock wise rotation. I hope this helps other people .

Well just watch this video and I want to say it was pretty informative. I put a timing belt my mother's PT Cruiser about a year ago and now it's got a overheating problem which I believed to be a head gasket till I saw this video. I hope that it is a head gasket and not a cracked head.

Glad to see you're back! You've always shown real repair videos that I've enjoyed! I felt really bad for you when I've seen that head cracked, especially since you've mentioned you've bought this car. Cheap as it may be,you still put a lot of work to find out that! It definitely made for a great video! Thank you for that! To be honest,I would've burned it to the ground. Lol! Thank you for everything! You're the best!

Nasty results can follow suit if recharging the ac thru the high side that is for sure. Especially if there is a high side restriction and pressure goes above 350psi with old, deteriorated hoses....boom and hopefully you have eye protection on. Yeah, these particular vehicles are fun to do any under hood work on, but all is not lost with the right tools and know how. Will, your test procedures are spot on and I appreciate your methodical no bullshit common sense approach to automotive repair, thank you for that.

Great videos. My son's 03 PT is running very rough so I started tearing it down today. I'm hoping the head isn't cracked but I did find oil on the number one plug cylinder side. Your video is a great help as these transverse mounted motors suck to work on. I even thought that it might be easier to pull the motor. The car also has a constant oil leak so this will be the time to look for it. Thanks again.

Another great video, Will. When you do the followup, can you give us a little discussion about the relative cost for parts? I find it a little humbling and sad that people throw away vehicles like this because the cost of repair is not worth it in North America, compared to having a new vehicle shipped over from the other side of the world. International wage disparity and the relatively low cost of fossil fuel creates a strange imbalance.

Then she starts running real ruff, and may or may not stall out. I come to a complete stop shut the ignition off, then back on and most time she come roaring back to life. The engine light usually stays solid for awhile then shuts off. A few days later the whole thing starts up again. Can Will or anyone help?

Well, an exhaust manifold could probably be repaired. But it would have to be someone with good knowledge and experience. Cast Iron can be repaired with a braze weld but have to be prepared thoroughly. Drill holes at both end of the crack to stop further cracking and then clean and repair with a brass or bronze weld. The welder have to decide which is best. I only have basic skill in welding but it can be done. Good luck!

Had to remove a million other parts to get to one. I'll take an old Ford or Chevy any day over mopar. IMPO. Yup. I overheated the SNOT out of my engine a few months ago. I forgot to put on the coolant cap and the engine thermometer was just reading the block temperature or the ambient air that was going to it well then I thought it was a great idea to go and put water in it immediately and I'm pretty sure I crack the f****** son of a b****. I don't think my problem is actually the engine block itself as I've been religious about putting oil in it and I've never ran low on oil however with the amount of hours on it I wouldn't be surprised if there's somewhere but the thing is I'm almost certain there's something wrong with the head now. at this point it just makes sense just to go ahead and purchase a whole entire engine and throw it in there because I also have to do work on the throwout bearing a might as well get it all done in one swift motion
