PT. 1 John Singleton Introduces Damson Idris, Molding his L.A Accent with WC + New “Snowfall” Show

The fresh new hit series star, Damson Idris and Director and Writer, John Singleton, stop by to discuss the new show, Snowfall. Early in the interview Singleton discusses how he has had this show mapped out in his head since he was the age of 11.
The show depicts the breakdown of the community and family, after drugs hit the South Central area in Los Angeles. Singleton focuses on the epidemic of crack in specific because it relates to one of the biggest wars against black people. “I look at three different moments in Black History that really effected us; slavery, Jim Crow, and Crack,” said Singleton. He speaks on the importance of Crack because it shows how Crack really broke family’s down.
As the lead actor, Idris, discusses the process of his auditioning and how he understands playing a character of this magnitude comes with responsibility. He also takes us into his past as he discusses how crack hit his neighborhood in the early 2000s.Not only does this show relate to everyone who grew up in L.A. during those times, you can hear how it has effected people across other nations. The crack epidemic was such an immense time because it had the power to completely break down a person.
In the second part of the interview Idris and Singleton talk on the new disturbing scene of the show, Snowfall. With the help of some callers, Singleton touches base on how authentic he wanted the show to be, that is why he incorporated the scene into the show. “Everything I do, I try to get people really emotionally invested in it,” said Singleton. “If you can do that as a story teller folks will watch your stuff over and over.”

    It's obvious John S. stole his story and hired writers to produce the show. Snowfall is good but you can't help but think about Freeway Rick when you watch it. It's about a young black man from LA who gets a connect to front him kilos. This same connect is getting his kilos from the guerrillas who are selling them to a CIA agent for weapons to fight the military in jungle warfare. That's Freeway Rick Ross entire case.

    If I recall, John Singleton originally wrote a rape scene in "All Eyez on me", and it didn't happen, but there was one in episode 3 of Snowfall, so people assume he put it there.

    Snowfall better than power, not quite as good as breaking bed yet, but only had 3 seasons so hopefully there will be at least another 2 more seasons so it could be up there with breaking bad. At the minute it's my best thing on tv and can't wait till season 4 to see what happens with Franklin, teddy. Louie and her partner. And whatever happened with Mel after she shot Franklin. I can't see Franklin telling police it was Mel who shot him after he killed her dad. Plus Andres partner is now working with Franklin which is interesting. I thought he was racist but at the end it showd he has 2 black kids. So there's so much going on and so much to look forward to. Also gutted teddy brother didn't last longer. And I hope the Mexican wrestler (can t remember his name) finds h us partner who had her family murdered. She was also in breaking bad as Jessie pinkmans partner along with her son Brock and ge r other son who killed combo

    Hollywood has to stop hiring foreign actors to play African Americans in critical/historical roles such as this one. With unemployment being high among African American males in this country, couldn't John Singleton have hired an actor from LA to play a role that is much closer to home than a British actor??

  • @juiceplanet147

    @juiceplanet147

    Casting is ran by mostly white people who failed at being actors..They kick American born black actors to the curb. Because its much cheaper to hire British black actors. American lead actors can make $250k per episode vs British actor making approx $100k per episode. If you are executive producer who you picking if both actors are excellent? I don't like it either but its business.

    +Albert Dennis Yeah, So no one complains when Forest Whitaker, Will Smith, Don Cheadle, Eddie Murphy & Arsenio, Morgan Freeman and other black American actors are playing Africans, but the minute someone else who's also black does goes to the states and lands a gig it's "whoa we need to talk about this"??? The problem isn't black British actors lol. The Hypocrisy. Like we don't already have enough reasons for black people to be divided and hate amongst each other. What if I dunno... all the other actors weren't as good for the role? Then what? Do you think he got hired specifically BECAUSE he's british? OR maybe it's the fact that black british actors have to be twice as good if they want American roles because they're not taken as seriously (because no one thinks of them as having the same experiences), in the same way that historically black people have had to be twice as good to get a job over a white person. You're crying over another BLACK person getting a role when you should be happy that this is an opportunity for there to be a unification amongst all black people. There's always been black british actors, but none of them ever got a role over Denzel, you know why? Because Denzel is A GREAT ACTOR. PERIOD. They're either good enough or not. Same way WHITE BRITISH actors like Daniel Day Lewis and Ewan Mcgregor and James McVoy and Hugh Laurie and Colin Firth can get American roles because no one can tell the difference. Black US actors either need to step up their game or quit complaining cos it's hypocritical as fuck. There's black people outside of the US and if you saw the bigger picture instead of focusing on reasons to separate you'd realise there's different black experiences and they don't take away anything from someone's ability to deliver a performance.
