PSYCHOTIC MOUNTAIN BOARS - Brave Pig Dogs Dancing with DEATH!

Спорт

Seems the way to get massive views on KZread is to use a photoshopped Thumbnail pic and a real 'clickbait' style title, so let's just see how this episode from season 5 performs!
Thankfully, it stands on it's own two feet as a bloody good pig hunting ep, with a heap of drama and some pretty hardcase moments for Tim and the team.
The fellas are hunting the rugged Kaikoura ranges, hoping that the old dogs will teach the young ones a few tricks, but an incident early on in the trip throws a cat amongst the pigeons!

New Zealand its incredible how feral pigs have reverted to the ancestor of domestic pigs the Spanish/Iberian wild boar. Its was domesticated into extinction just like the Chinese pot bellied pigs which was related to the pygmy hogs of Asia and because Polynesian pigs never made it to New Zealand that bloodline doesn't exist. The United States is loosing pure blood Razorbacks as Eurasian wild boar were introduced and the same thing is happening in South America. In Brazil the predominant color for Razorbacks is tannish yellow. Its seems New Zealand being freer of Asian domestic pig blood the color variations of the Iberian wild boar are better able to come out and express themselves. The bluish hogs are amazing. Hopefully Australia and New Zealand never introduce Eurasian Wild boar and ruin pure Razorback bloodlines. I don't know if pot bellied pigs have made it to New Zealand but it be good to keep that bloodline away too. Of course China has bred enormous pigs from the Chinese pig bloodline but pure Razorbacks are a wonder to behold and sad to see them disappear in Canada, the USA, Argentina and Chile as wild boar blood expansion is a given. We are loosing the hogs recorded in the book and movie 'Ol Yelller some of my favorites.

Goats are introduced pests and require extensive culling in these areas, there's a large population of them. We'll take the meat of younger animals and nannies when the situation allows, but old billys like the ones shot in this episode are no good for eating. We had three more days in the hills too, with no refrigeration, so were focused on ensuring the pork was in the best condition by keeping space for it in the meat safe which was hanging in the shade behind camp.

Goats are a pest species here in NZ and needed to be heavily controlled to prevent numbers getting out of control. No natural predators here, only native mammals we have are two species of bats.

Goats need a great deal of control work done in this area of the country to reduce numbers, and taking the meat from an old billy where we had no means of refrigeration for the next three days would have lead to some pretty manky meat.
