What I discovered over the years listening to their songs is that, there is no correct or wrong way to understand their lyrics. You can interpret them completely differently, but still, it will make sense, at least for you. And I think that"s what matters most.

Many of Tyler’s lyrics read like a psalm of David to me. Crying out for answers and seeking guidance.

i loved hearing your interpretation, such a beautiful message you took from it. i've always thought of the lyrics very similarly, asking God to reveal himself, similar to their song Trees but I feel like Trees is sort of more desperate and this is a bit more like he is challenging God, making a 'demand'.

Perfect reaction Tom!!! This song invokes a feeling inside that I can’t really explain - you articulated what I’ve always felt beautifully!! This song is so intense! Great start to the ‘self titled’ era! Don’t know how I missed this on Patreon though, sorry! I must Still be playing catch-up! We’ve been away on holiday and managed to catch covid on the way back!🙄 I have asthma too so it’s been a bit of a struggle! We’re all on the mend now though! I’m so excited for your tøp journey! Us tøp fans can be a bit intense lol! Most of the time it’s just because we care so much about the band and the music/lyrics are so important! But music is an art form and as such, should be open to interpretation in whatever way the listener/viewer chooses to see it, there’s no ‘right’ answer. You’re going to love seeing the progression of tøp, this album was made a couple of years before Josh joined the band, (there was a different drummer and guitarist at the time), and I think in some tracks you do miss Josh’s signature drumming. It’s all part of the journey to where they are today though! Sending love to you and the family Tom!

04:00 “This is the lyric version of the song…?” Dude SAME thoughts 😂 One of the reasons I love this band is their story feels similar to mine. I’ve had many times of screaming, cussing God out, especially after my mom passed away suddenly from septicemia. But somewhere I got the funny idea “when the girls [my sisters] and I would fight, mom would make us shut tf up when it was the other person’s turn to talk. I’m going to unload everything and then sit my ass down and listen tf up to anything He says back.” Maybe memories of the book of Job were rattling in my head because that’s the kind of response I expected; the kind that knocks me on my ass and makes me get over it. But no. The closest I can word it was like the weird sensation of…. Like, like when you have a bad flu or stomach poisoning. Spewing out such filth. It hitting you how not-good all of it was. But like I’m not in bed by myself. When I would cry from unleashing so much anger and hurt, I could almost tangibly feel God holding my gently on the arms like “You get it all out, honey? Or is there anything left?” So hearing someone around my age singing what I was too confused to tell anyone about, MAN I love this band

@@VTPPGLVR true. God can handle our anger or fear or whatever (even directed at Him) when we are seeking help from Him. I see this in Psalms. We tend to read them as if David or other writers penned the words in the same amount of time as it takes us read them. I tend to think David started many of them in the heat of the stressful as he’s asking for judgement on his enemies for example, but probably finished the psalm down the road after having seen God work on the situation. Then finishing the psalm vowing to trust in the Lord having seen that He is faithful. A lot of Tyler’s lyrics feel that way to me.

Tweenty one pilots are awesome because there is their meaning, my meaning, and your meaning all in one song. They have a message that you can interpret however you want. For me its always self improvement even when you fail and embarrass yourself you can improve. Even when you say im done this is it. theres nothing left .. they show you theres more.. even if its just music or a project you have to finish. Theres more and if you unalive yourslef then you will never know what your capable of. Even if its absolute crap.. you at least tried and can either try to get better or tone your skills on something that comes natural.
