There is a serious shortage of material about / from Vincent Deary available on youtube etc. His work is as important to me as Gabor Mate's and needs to be more widely known. This book is absolutely what I needed to read / hear right now. I would also recommend listening to the audiobook to absorb it even more.

I have ASD, and Vincent's book has enlightened me on the concept of allostatic load, and the impact this has on fatigue. As someone on the autistic spectrum, I know that ASD symptoms, and just trying to socially exist creates stress. I suffer fatigue, and I'm routinely floored by stress migraines. I still don't know how I'm going to use the knowledge that Vincent has imparted, but I haven't yet finished the book, so that may become clearer, and I do feel better armed.

Takeaways: Nurture yourself by being more discerning in terms of where you invest your emotional energy. Some areas of life (perhaps your work for example) puts great demands on us to give more and "be perfect" yet provides a meagre return in a way that and replenishes our soul. From self-knowledge and self-understanding, self-compassion can be developed. Take care of yourself.

Pathologizing and treating the identified patient is not always the best way to deal with the complex and chronic symptoms of dis-ease caused by our limited ability to adapt to a sick society.
