PSX Longplay [252] Total Eclipse Turbo
www.longplays.org
Played by: Mad-Matt
One of the PlayStation launch games which is a direct port of Total Eclipse from the 3D0. This game would not have looked out of place if it had been developed for the Mega-CD.
The game is pretty much a rail shooter which is always propelling you forward. You can slow down and speedup, but never stop. Controls are very sensitive making it impossible for precise aiming so it ends up as spray and pray and enemies die before you do.
Each world is split up into 4 rounds and end with a boss battle. The levels consist of two zones namely surface and tunnels. On the surface you can also do a roll manoeuvre but I didn't notice anywhere in the game where it is ever needed, although it can boost score while shooting upside down. Towards the end of the game the levels get long and some tunnels can lead to dead ends causing instant death! Also some tunnel entrances take you back to earlier parts of the level so some memorisation is involved here.
After the game is completed a Crystals Dynamics promotional video is shown at the end of the video. It couldn't be any more 90's era advertising if it tried ;)

I can’t get enough of the saxophone solo in the theme for the second stage.
Total Eclipse was an early release for the 3DO. It was a very impressive looking game at the time. My friend bought it when he bought a 3DO in early 1994. This and Crash N Burn (also by Crystal Dynamics) were the best of the early releases he had.
Nice. That was my first PSX Game back in the Days. Thx for uploading.
This game scared the shit outta me when I was a kid!
This OST is just perfect
Man, brass in the soundtrack. Now that's something you won't hear every day.
KOOL Retro Game, Interplanetary galactic battle storyline, I'd buy it. My PS1 needs a little cheesy 90's humor. Comical ASF🤣🤣🤣🤣💯
The budget for the opening intro video was so bad, the human's mouths were occluded by headset microphones, and the alien's mouth by tentacles. Proper lipsync is expensive.
I don't know why, but for some reason, every time I play this game or even seeing the title of this game, it makes me think of the song Total Eclipse Of The Heart by Bonnie Tyler. This game is a true classic though
The music is awesome !
I owned this and terminal velocity. Both great games with similar levels. Yes I had a pc too.
The Saturn version (Solar Eclipse) was such a massive improvement over this...

+CarozQH Solar Eclipse was originally called "Titan Wars" and was released in EU (and Japan?) under that name. The name was changed to Solar Eclipse in order to make it seem like a sequel to Total Eclipse. According to the devs, no actual code from Total Eclipse was used in that game, but there are similarities in the way the levels are made / drawn. It was originally going to be released in the US on the Playstation as well, but it never was. You can get the PAL version for the PS1 via import, tho. The saturn version is pretty much identical.
truly a classic ps1 game

can you play thread of fate for PS1
Why author music, Burk ... ?
It's solar eclipse from the sega saturn but its the crap edition
I swear, that is so 90's it's painful! Credit where it's due for posting the playthrough, but the trends of the time have not aged gracefully. At least not among that which was mediocre.
