Any science UG student or graduate can write GATE. So, don't bother about your PG. Based on your UG qualification, you can write GATE. After qualifying GATE score, you can apply for PSUs. But, the recruitment in PSUs is based on their manpower requirement in your specialisation. Suppose, if you are a chemistry graduate, you have to wait for the opportunities in the respective field.

You can choose any paper other than ECE. But, on the safer side, take a paper which is relevant to ECE. Because, sometimes, some PSUs may check whether your GATE paper is from your discipline or at least relevant to it. How to find relevant paper? (In my opinion) A candidate may appear either in ONE or TWO subject papers. Candidates opting to appear in TWO subject papers must have primary choice of paper, which will be their default choice and the second choice of paper, which has to be chosen from the allowed combinations. Find the relevant paper from this combination. We can't equate the marks with the salary. It all depends on many factors such as company size, reputation, its salary structure, man power requirement, designation of the job, your performance in the interview etc.

Brother, i have one doubht. If we applied for psu and paid fees. But if we didnot get their cutoff, do we get refund of amount?. How to believe and apply before writing gate exam.

For PSUs recruitment, GATE scores are valid for the current year. They release the cut-off based on that year GATE scores, or they mention based on which year GATE score. So you can check your score before applying. Also, you have to apply on your own risk, you can't expect the refund.

@@kumarsr4264 If you are applying a PSU which recruits candidates based on GATE score, then you must enter your score while applying. Some companies ask the candidates to upload GATE scorecard also. Without knowing the GATE score, you can't apply, you can't submit any GATE score that you guessed.

@@kumarsr4264 I have not heard as you said. Because the GATE score is used to shortlist the candidates at entry-level. Without it, how the company shortlist the candidate? May be, you can register first without GATE score (like creating a login ID for yourself), the application process will start, once GATE score arrived.

Mostly yes, Generally, Final year students are allowed to apply for various government jobs and public sector jobs. But, It depends on the company's requirement. You can apply based on your UG qualification. But, I think there are very less opportunities in PSUs for your qualification. So, first find the suitable job notifications in the past. If you find enough, apply for GATE.

GATE scores are not valid for three years for PSU recruitment. instead, only the present year score will be accepted while some recruitment also accept previous year scores. If you used your score for M.Tech. admission, you won't use it for PSU recruitment after the completion of your M.Tech.
