PSE Supra Focus Target Bow Review

Спорт

After a couple months of shooting, here is my final review of the PSE Supra Focus target bow.
With an MSRP of about $1,100, the Supra Focus is affordable when compared to PSE's flagship target bow - the Perform-X - which retails for $600 more. It's a lot of value for an accurate and easy to tune target bow.

    Still loving my 2017 Xpression but do like the look/sound of these. 40" ideal for a finger shooter like me.

    Excellent review. Definitely makes me want to upgrade to the focus for next 3d season. I have been using an evolve 35 for 3d this season to see if I would enjoy it. Normally I'm just a hunter. I have been loving the ECS. I did make a couple of changes to the bow for better handling and tuning. I swapped in the LL mods because the HL was way too much letoff in my opinion. I also swapped out the trs slide bar for the new frs. I kept getting strange paper holes. The shots were constantly fletchings to the right. I guess the tension of the trs was pulling the buss cables hard and causing the arrow to shift right as it was coming off the string. Once the frs was installed it was bullet holes all day.

    I'm not sure how much better the Supra Focus would be for you than the Evolve 35. I am in complete agreement on the high let off mod. It's too much for me. I have an Evoke 31 in and it has the HL mod, but there are multiple positions. I have the lowest let off option and it seems to work just fine now.

    Shootdown will be closer to Evolve. With new shorter, thicker limbs Supra is closer to Evoke

    Just to make it clear I am not sponsored by PSE and I paid full price for the bow. I got my Supra Focus a couple of days ago and have given it a rough setup for now to get shooting. I put the nocking point right through the centre of the berger hole and the rest a smidge low to encourage a slightly high tear, although I have not paper tuned it at all yet. But this is how I always setup my bows. It has to be noted that mine is a 50lbs version due to a funny shoulder, but the thing that really stood out for me is the draw cycle. I have shot a lot of Mathews Conquest bows in the past with the Minimax cam and the draw cycle, valley and back wall feels identical (I have it on 70% L/O at the moment but the exact figure has not been measured yet). When you draw it up it does feel very linear, and then you enter a short and vague-ish valley before hitting the back wall which is solid but a little bit of give. All of this I do like. I had been shooting a Supra Max and the draw cycle in that is much more pronounced and an obvious hump and drop into the valley. The riser geometry is very distinctive and you can feel how that and the forward facing limbs affect the balance over more reflexed and parallel limbs. But it is nothing that stabilisation will not sort out though. On aiming, it does feel more stable left and right, but I still suffer a bit of bobbing up and down despite the centre pull design, but I think that is because the valley is shorter and my shoulder is not always stable, but it aims well enough. Overall Lucas at @ArcheryTalk has got the review spot on. For me this is a very old school feeling bow but with modern tech.

    @@ArcheryTalkVideo How do the draw cycle compare between the two bows? (Supra Vs CT9)

  • @ArcheryTalkVideo

    @ArcheryTalkVideo

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@MarioCorreaMendes It's a big complicated, because there is a pretty big difference in draw weight. Both are fairly smooth pulls. The CT9 is definitely quieter after the shot with less vibration. But I will be doing final head-to-head-to-head comparisons of the three bows this weekend in preparation for the shootout video. I will have more answers then.

  • @ArcheryTalkVideo

    @ArcheryTalkVideo

    @@vios_hawk8831 I'd be careful adjusting your rest. If you bow is tuned and you make a rest adjustment, you will throw it out of tune quickly. But if there is no more adjustment in your scope, it sounds like there is an issue to be address. Unfortunately, without seeing your bow, it's hard to know. First thing I would do is make sure my tune is good. Make sure bareshafts are flying with fletched arrows (at least out to 20 yards) or that broadheads are flying with field points. Gold Tip/Tim Gillingham recently put together a big series of videos with great tuning info.
