So you are talking down reflex on this bow but PJ Riley did a video on this bow and it won a 2024 comparison against longer axle to axle bows. There is supposed to be something on the bow that recenters you and/or doesn’t allow you to torque the bow. They were getting good groups at okay distance for a short bow. I’d love you to add in some distance shots to your reviews!!!!

If a bow hits the advertise weight and draw and brace height, and other specs, I don’t see why it wouldn’t get all fives. I don’t care about your opinion anymore than you care about mine, but you are starting to gain a large following I believe because of your truth telling. It would be nice to award bow companies for their truth, whether you like the specs or not. As soon as you start giving marks for opinions more than truth, on the advertised specs you become just another, KZread quiver sniffer with a camera. I believe you’re having success on here because of your honesty not just your opinion. So whether you like it or not truth is truth.

I just realized that after watching the video through again a second time. It seems to defeat the purpose of measuring to see if the bow matches the factory specs given if MFJJ is just going to give it 1 less point bc it's not ideal to making a bow more accurate. I'm still a fan of who he is and what he does though lol. Just a bit confused and disappointed with giving the score according to his opinion which is fine I'd say for other features but when it comes to specs, if a bow hits those specs according to what it states it is, it should be given full credit.

Guys he has to sell Mathew’s bows first. They have different dealer rules than other companies. They have to buy a certain amount upfront so they need to sell those to not lose money. Then it’s a large entrance fee ( around 30k) to become a dealer and if they don’t sell a certain amount of bows they lose their Mathew’s dealership. This is why his reviews, along with other guys reviews, have heavy bias towards mathews. So he will down play other companies bows with subjective stuff to make Mathew’s look better.

Have you researched limb angle much? You are harsh on reflex but don’t take into account how much forward facing limb angles counter torque. I completely agree longer risers are more stable, but at the same time if it takes a flat beyond parallel limb to get there you loose every ounce of benefit. Hence the reason most target bows have forward facing limb pockets with risers relatively short compared to over all axle to axle.

  • @jrhunt414

    @jrhunt414

Yes, reflex doesn’t matter. When it comes to resisting torque about the axis of the grip, it’s all about brace height, limb design and cam design. The horizontal distance at full draw from where the string contacts the cam to the axis of the grip is the moment arm that is resisting torque. Grip pressure and torque is a variable in even the best archers. We are humans with a heart beat.

Great review even though I would say that some of your scoring seems to defeat the purpose of "measuring" to see if the bows measurements are according to factory stated specs. If you score based off of your opinion of the specs then why even measure for the specs in the first place? Other than that i enjoyed watching the video. Maybe somethings you can add is how stable the bow feels at full draw, like does it feel like it torques easy or does it feel like it just wants to float, etc. Maybe see how easy it groups at 40yds or so incomparison to other bows. These are just some ideas because at the end of the day, the question we all want to know is, why this bow and is it the one for me according to your thoughts and opinions. We want a practical take away which you somewhat already do, but if you can be more clear and intentional with your conclusion in being consistent with all your conclusion that would be most appreciated by im sure most if not everyone watching.

I think the issue is that he is kind of haphazard and inconsistent in how he scores different bows...sometimes it almost seems like he is trying to put his thumb on the scale...more likely he is just winging it and isn't trying to be an engineer about it and doesn't really care if he isn't totally consistent. Which is fine after you figure that out and it is still good information and entertaining.

Hey Josh! I trust your opinion and wanted to ask a question about your review. You made some comments about the extreme reflex on this bow for good reason. But the PSE marketing material makes a point of the “Full Draw Stability” system, and says something about the string angle at full draw on this bow being equal to the string angle of longer ATA bows. I’ve also heard your comments on the fireside chats with Tim about how the exit angle of a string from the cam at full draw contributes to positive or negative shooting characteristics. So two questions: first, is this marketing claim true? Does this bow indeed have a string exit angle, or whatever you call it, that is more desirable than you’d expect from a 30” ATA bow with 3” of reflex? And 2. If so, how are they achieving this? Appreciate your time, thanks! I’m considering this bow really seriously, because surprise surprise, my RX-7 isn’t tuning and I’m tired of the 1990’s , which is where my bow’s tuning system seems to be stuck.🤣

I know this is my personal opinion but i feel if a brace height and ATA match exactly as they advertise it that should be an instant 5 , you cant fault a bow for personal opinions. With that being said i do HIGHLY respect you and very much enjoy your content, thanks for what you do.

Agreed. It's like folks that go online to review an expensive leading brand product and they say " wow, this was great, it did everything better than the competition" and then they give it a score of 3 out of 5, because the product the elected to buy is perceived as being "expensive". I'm getting a little off topic but I think cost should NOT be factor into aggregate review scores. Offer an opinion of value as a complete separate score that is NOT aggregated with performance scores. Again, not saying Podium is doing that...but I see it too often including by another archery reviewer - who also seems like a great and very well meaning guy doing good work - just don't aggregate cost score with performance score. We aren't monkeys. I think. LOL.

@@liamboyle9199It doesn’t make sense to measure any reflex geometry from any point as it pertains to full draw resistance to hand torque about the axis of the grip. Draw the free body diagram and do a static analysis at full draw and you’ll see why riser reflex is a pointless measurement. An easy way to see this is to pull back a newer Mathews and compare it to any high reflex, long limb, non parallel limb bow of the past. I have a V3 that incurs much more angular deflection during hand torque at full draw than my older Martins and it has nothing to do with reflex measurement. It’s all about brace height and the rearward horizontal travel of the tangent point of the string to the cam. Or in the case of a Mathews hunting bow, the forward horizontal travel due to its cam and limb design.

Considering he had a drop away when testing the mathews and they where still 15+fps slow and still gave them a high score for speed

He did a video on this. It’s 2fps max which is basically insignificant. You can go back and watch the test. It was actually under 2fps

So a bow is advertised as a 30" ATA bow.. It measures at a 30" ATA... So you give it a 4.. because you dont like short bows. Thats retarded. It gets a 5 of 5 on ATA because it hits the advertised specs. Speed- this is closet to hitting its advertised speed than any other bow tested this year... and thats on MJFF's slow arse chrono... I dont like the reflex either. But are we scoring bows on what they like? Or whether or not they are hitting advertised specs? Josh jumps around like a leap frog- Why try to use specific measurable standards for scoring when you factor in your likes and dislikes into some categories that are supposed to be measurable and graded on accuracy? Why not just tell us your opinion and throw out standards.

And it had same numbers as the Mathew's on vibration, yet the Mathew's got a 5 and the PSE got a 4. For someone that doesn't favor Mathew's, sure tries pretty damn hard to make them shine

Come on, giving a 4 for a 30" length that is 30 inches, giving a 4 for a 6 1/8 brace that is 6 1/8. I thought you were reviewing the bow not what you want!

We need a video where you shoot deflexed vs reflexed. I’d bet the bows geared toward hunting you can’t shoot the difference. Some I’d even bet past 60 you won’t even see a big enough difference to justify your incessant need to point out reflex.

If a bow comes to you right on the specs then it should get top scores! You shouldn’t grade bows based on your subjective thoughts, i.e. stability or long range accuracy based on reflex!? That’s hogwash, shoot the bows at 40 or 60 yards and then decide! Bias is evident in your reviews, watch them back yourself and you’ll see. Just give us the honest numbers, most of us watch your videos and can pick up your bias and sometimes subjective off the wall grading criteria!?
