Psa jakl in 5.56, range toy or duty rifle? Your choice, either way it looks good!

I gotta say, I really like my Jakl. Not so much how its front heavy and how it gets hot so fast but overall, I really like it. That being said, I dont think its a duty rifle… but not a range toy either. If that makes any sense… its a solid platform. I get a feeling PSA will produce a gen2 in the near future and address the weight, the charging handle rattling, heat distribution and part compatibility. Cool video, man.

Thanks man and I like it too, but I try my best to base my opinion around the longevity use of the rifle. While this thing looks to last for a while, so did a few other psa rifles I’ve owned and they didn’t make the cut….. not saying I hate psa one bit, I talk with the rep every now and then and see how they operate and I really like psa as to what they stand for. But the longevity and qc of their firearms just doesn’t seem to cut it, that’s why I do what I do and don’t throw in the towel being done with them. I’m gonna keep coming back to them with these issues when a rifle breaks and force them to fix it! Josiah at psa seems very interested when I come to him with a problem and he seems very hands on, he’s asking my opinion and what I think would cure the problem I’m having in the moment(not that I’m a gunsmith or anything), so they have intent on building a product that’ll last and that gives me hope to keep trying and striving for a better product for the us the consumers who like psa! Now, I haven’t used the jakl enough to bash it and it seems like a tough system but I see a few flaws and it’s like you said and I agree that they’ll come out with a gen2 that’s a tank! Or maybe this one will have zero issues and I’m griping for no reason. 😊😎🇺🇸

This is an AK type long stroke gas piston system, therefore there is no need for gas rings like you would see on a direct impingement system. The play in the piston is of no consequence. I expect that with the long stroke piston system, this rifle will be very reliable.

Not an UGG boot stock. Also not PSA’s stock. Tge SCAR Ugg boot stock is kind of thrash (i literally broke one overseas). I think the stock is made by B5. It is basically a one for one clone of out of production the old school MagPul ACR stock but it folds to the left instead of the right. I do agree that the JAKL is a hefty rifle. Probably easily a 9lbs rifle without an optic. It is also super front heavy like you said. On the plus side I think the weight might come in handy since I have a feeling like the SCAR that it might have been designed to shoot 7.62x51mm. I also think their bolt catch is trash. I ended up taking it out, cutting off the paddle off of a PDQ bolt catch and it fit with some minor stoning. All and all not a bad weapon system. That being said, there are other options at a similar price point with less weight.

Lot of rifles have proprietary parts, the scar, bren, aug to name a few. The "slop" you mentioned in the piston isn't a concern. Are you familiar with AKMs? The JAKL uses a very similar long stroke piston as the proven AKM, there is a lot of wiggle in that system because it was designed that way. Good video and I'm glad you pointed out the ugg boot

  • @OPERATORonaBUDGET

Thanks man. I’m very familiar with aks, in fact this has way more wobble than the psa aks romanian aks and bulgy aks I have or had. It even rotates a little, I don’t think it’s gonna break or anything and I understand the wiggle helps with reliability but I was just pointing that out. Also the reason I mentioned the proprietary parts is because it has a ar15 type bolt and I’ve had their bolts break (from psa), ar15s are very common and it would be cool if they made some of the really important parts interchangeable. I do understand as well the jakl is a piston system and ars are direct impingement so that’s already a huge difference, my point is this rifle would be bomb proof if all of the main important parts were interchangeable. 😊

It’s really a awesome rifle, the more I get to know it I have a different opinion when it comes to this rifle. Anytime I do these type reviews I try to give my full opinion along with how it runs, we still need to hit that break in point and whatnot but I think this rifle will preform great. And if it doesn’t psa will fix it and make it better! Psa makes the cheapest reliable ar15s imo, no other company puts out ar15s that are as reliable and as cheap as they do it! You can’t go wrong with picking them! 😊

Nice rifle 👍 I agree that the bolt catch should be beefed up and out if need be to give it some more ass. I don’t necessarily see the need to criticize a proprietary rifle though for having proprietary parts 😆. Honesty people know it’s going to have a unique bolt and some other parts. If that is a concern, yeah buy yourself a spare bolt. Don’t knock it though for being different than your garden variety AR.. it’s kind of a given. Tbh, I think they did pretty well with how many parts are actually AR parts. That’s a pretty high degree of commonality. The piston play is pretty normal on an AK fwiw 👍

So the sig tango 1-6 weighs in at 1.25 lbs, that’s very light! I know it looks heavy but I’m telling you that size really deceives you into thinking it’s heavy, I have a 20inch a4 that has a carry handle and on top of the carry handle I have the vortex 5x prism. Plus I have the Midwest rifle length drop in rail, with all of that it comes in at just over 8 pounds. The jakls heavy and very front heavy, but that’s my opinion. Not saying the rifle sucks but compared to something for similar use that’s 4 inches longer and the 20 inch is a way older system too, the jakl should be lighter and perfectly balanced. I love psa I think that a few little tweaks and this thing will be bomb.!.!.! 😊
