1:22 As a Film Major, I know that it is SUPER expensive to pay young children to be on set. They have to be paid extra fees for allowing a student teacher or guardian to be with them on set, time to allow them to do their homework, etc. Realistically, these children would not be able to stay overtime without adding a BUNCH of extra money to their paycheck, which is good for the kids, but bad for the director who has to pay them. So no WONDER these kids were excited to stay another hour XD (Look up Child Labor Laws in Film and Television)

Amethyst is now still remembered but now im very sad that Steven Universe has ended

@@Queer_Nerd_For_Human_Justice I am actually colorblind. But I always forget what colors I’m colorblind too. But when I was a kid I liked how blue looked but didn’t like it’s name and the same for purple. So I told myself blue was purple and purple was blue.

People need to understand that when people say "I don't see color" they mean they don't judge your character based off of the color of your skin. I think it’s supposed to be satirizing PBS Kids, specifically Barney the Dinosaur. This is mainly due the Amethyst’s voice artist, Michaela Dietz, having a recurring role as the voice of one of the dinosaur characters on the show.

Remember whe peridot called steven a hybrid abomination? thats how i feel bout alot of mix couples.

The thing is, color DOES NOT matter. Steven Universe was a show that taught us that your skin didn’t matter, your gender didn’t matter, or sexual orientation. It’s a show that teaches us to love us for WHO WE ARE. That’s the whole message in the theme song “Love Like You”. Steven as a character never looks at the other gems as different colored, or the people of Beach City as different races, because to Steven, everyone’s the same, and everyone deserves the same. Think about how Peridot first treated Pearl. Pearls are servants on Homeworld, so Peridot treated her differently, like a servant or slave. Only to realize that Pearl is just as intelligent, resourceful, and loving as all the other characters. Peridot also hated Garnet because she was a fusion, and cross-fusions between different gems was considered “unspeakable” on Homeworld. So it makes sense for Peridot to be discriminatory. But then Peridot learns why Garnet is fused. Peridot grew to understand the main characters, she literally grew as a character because she began to see them from a different point of view. She began to see them as equals, and she learned to love. Another great example of this is when Steven goes to Homeworld, and just before he sings “Familiar”, he meets a bunch of little pebbles. At first the pebbles are scared of Steven because they’re seen as worthless little peasants. But Steven sees them just the same as all the other gems and makes friends with them. Or when Steven and Lars meet the “Off-Colored” gems. Those gems hide away because they’re considered to be ugly, freaks, abnormal…………..notice the term “Off COLORS”, but again, Steven does not look at them or treat them any different. It’s the DIAMONDS who are racist, they were the ones who saw the other gems are different and created a hierarchy. Steven looks at everyone the same, with the same respect and love as everyone else. Equality CANNOT be achieved when you begin to segregate people. This promotional video, while it has good intentions, does NOT capture the meaning and the heart of the original show. This is NOT what Steven Universe taught us.

Sorry for a late reply but I don't think that's what the show was about. The message is trying to say that we shouldn't ignore people's identities and their experiences. Those examples you gave were about appreciating people and their differences. Steven didn't ignore the fact that they were off colors, he accepted them for who they are and treated them as equals. But he won't ignore or dismiss the fact that they're off colors and treated like garbage in homeworld. He ackowledges that but the difference is he doesn't discriminate against them because of that. Same with Garnet and Peridot. Peridot made an effort to learn about and understand Garnet and her experience as a fusion. Not blindly see her as just another gem when she isnt. Yes they can see each other equals, but being "colorblind" and failing to see who they actually are is not what steven universe was about.

You LITERALLY just proved my point. You saying 'if you look closely' is the requirements for finding fringe racism in a country without systemic racism. That's the difference between systemic racism and fringe racism. It is a statistical impossibility to eliminate fringe racism 100.000000% because we have such a massive population with countless possibilities for outliers. What we DID accomplish in the last 50 years is eliminate systemic racism in the US.

In fact one of the biggest setbacks of unity between white people and black people in the last 50 years was the massively racist 1994 CRIME BILL which specifically ordered African Americans to be targeted with more suspicion and given more severe punishments then others, and it was written by a Democrat Senator and approved by a Democrat President. Meh. The whole point of saying "it doesn't matter what your skin color is" is just to remind you that the hardships one faces based on race are a result of a social construct and not actually your skin color.

Ngl but here in Asia other race ethnicities hate each other it's certified racism still but it is normal to them they are like the french or the english.

I thought the lyrics had a rather nice message, when you really look at it. Instead of basing society on what color our skin is, we should see each other as people and treat each other with respect. Thus; it doesn't quite matter if you're outside looks white, black or purple. We have loads in common where it matters, both in terms of internal biology and spirit. I hope all this makes sense

I mean, that's why we want equality, not colorblindness. It doesnt matter what our skin color is when determining who we should respect and value. But it DOES matter what our skin color is when trying to prevent and heal racial injustice, and it also matters when we want to celebrate our different cultural heritage, and address our different needs, like black hair care and white skin care and such. So ultimately, colorblindness is just a rug to throw over a problem, while conversations about race are an important tool for humanity.

why do kids need to know about racism at such a young age. when i was little, i was focused on beating Sonic Heroes. i didn't even know what racism was

I don’t know what kind of childhood you had, but I’m pretty sure I’ve known about racism for about as long as I can remember... Maybe it’s because part of my family is black? Though I’m white myself. My point is, it’s important to teach people that racism is real. How are we gonna fight it if we pretend like it doesn’t exist?

kids shows are supposed to teach basic morals. "don't hate other races" is quite an obvious basic moral and yet some people don't learn it their whole life

Finally, a PSA that's actually saying something and not sweeping things under the rug with a catchy song.

For racist people, here's a simple tip... if you continue to complain about races, then you're gonna have a bad time... so, if you don't want to see sans attack... now would be a good time to stop.

Amethyst understands humans better than Garnet or Pearl.

This is... Definitely the best anti-racist PSA cartoon network did out of the three. It's accurate, and gets the message across clearly. So yeah, that's pretty nice.
