The truth behind Pink was that she was just a person. A person who made horrible mistakes but did beautiful things. She’s just an abstract version of us if you think about it. A beautiful, destructive, *human* in the form of gem/diamond.

Basically Rose was human deep inside. She had a horrible unhealthy childhood, made mistakes, lied, betrayed close friends and more or less cause deaths of both friends and foes alike. She made a lot tough sacrifices to save the planet and live a somewhat peaceful life. In other words she has the flaws, weaknesses, emotions and morals like any other human being.

I love how complex she is. I wasn’t a big fan of Rose at first because she’s been praised for being angel that can’t do wrong. And then we learn the dark truth behind Rose/Pink. She became incredibly interesting to me after that. She’s a morally gray and complex character and I love it lol.

When i rewatched the show i got this sinking feeling when her scenes from the early seasons appeared. It was a very strong experience to go back and view a character completely differently. Very cool I hope this trope is revisited in other stories.

Rose is a superlative representation of someone raised by abusive narcissists, who recognizes their own abuse well into adulthood, and then tries their best to be better. I feel for her so hard. If that's been your life, no matter how much work you do on yourself, it's nearly impossible to forgive yourself or forget the harm you caused others, even when you know that you'd never had anyone to teach you to be better than your parents. (Remember when Garnet realized that Rose had been following her example all along?) Sometimes it feels like all you can do is run. There is, realistically, no neat or perfect way to break the cycle of abuse, but the person who tries to do that is always seen as disruptive and selfish, even by those who should understand. People are *always* hurt when the scapegoat leaves, and that's one of the reasons abuse is so terrible. Rose tried her best. Steven accused her of having him to clean up her messes; I see her choice as the only option she felt she had to completely end that cycle. She'd tried for five thousand years and still couldn't fix everything, or forget her mistakes and all the people she hurt. So she became someone else completely - not just Rose, but Steven, an entirely new being, capable of fully loving himself and others. Someone on the writing staff knew what it's like from personal experience. The layers to the ugliness of that specific kind of recovery are just too complex for it to be otherwise.

I relate to much, I was born with a narcissistic father, and I believed so hard I’d never be like him. yet then I realize all the harm I’ve caused, every time I’d shout in rage or manipulate others for my own benefit, or make others feel small because of jealousy issues, and abandonment issues, and isolating me and my close ones with me from the outside world, and every time I’d laugh at people who were in pain. And no matter how much somebody tries to hide the harm of being born with somebody abusive, it will still effect them, one way, or another.

It genuinely sucks that pple always say they want deep and complex characters but whenever there actually is one , like Rose, they arent able to handle it or only see bits and pieces and not the whole picture. Rose is literally so complex and " grey" and it sucks thst a lot of people only see black or white

Late reply but exactly . In the story shes both a villain and a hero. Its thanks to her rebellion that the gems live in peace now, but shes also the cause or lots of people’s trauma. People don’t understand that steven’s still just a kid, and just like every teenager, does mistakes. when he’ll fully grow up he’ll understand that his mom was in fact, a hero.

@@Gooberwares who hasn't lied to others and ran from their problems? She wasn't perfect/entirely good and innocent but nor are humans. Those bad qualities she had only proved that she's very much human. Humanity has done a great deal of cruel actions in the past, but that doesn't mean there's no room for any goodness in them. When you think about it, she's very much like a rosebush; they have beautiful blooms to look at but they're very thorny at their roots. We should at least appreciate that despite coming from a bad place where all she knew was getting hurt and mistreating others, whether or not she knew of the consequences, she tried her best to overcome her problems even though she wound up pushing away those who cared.

I feel like pink diamond is often portrayed as a child with her being smaller and even having a temper however just like a child she was easily amazed, and traumatized with her being constantly abused for not falling in line with the other two because they (Blue and yellow) were in fear of white. The show has admitted that Steven reacts to his small problems as if they were life threatening however they don't address ever that Rose never wanted to leave Steven with her problems as she thought everything was over once they blasted the planet and figured that the others would simply think the planets rebellion died off or something (Important: mind you she didn't even know the cluster was a thing either). Rose was always fascinated with the idea of bringing things to life and is in her own way the Gaia of the diamonds however once she sees that she is taking the life of creatures who were there before her and have a much kinder/free'er outlook on things she softens up and starts to feel as though everything she was taught was a lie.. Steven wasn't born from hatred or because Rose wanted to run from her problems... She made him because unlike her, he would have the ability to become whatever he wanted and in her eyes that was something amazing and special.. she wanted to create something that would be able to figure out who/what they were instead of just being the same old copies she has been making to begin with.... Rose's lies were likely due to her feeling as though the others would reject her if they knew she were a diamond as well.. so in the end all she was doing was trying to help others but never counted for future problems that might occur if she were to disappear.....

Rose/ Pink DEFINITELY gets too much flack. Because her story was told backwards most only see her mistakes which isn’t fair considering how much she tried to change and fix her mistakes. Of course she’s not perfect but she did genuine good. This animatic is beautiful 🥰

I dunno, I never forgot how "good" she became, I just disagree about her becoming a truly good person. She never fixed her mistakes, she never apologized to anyone she hurt, she allowed pearl to feel the way she did, I fully agree with Steven saying she had him to run away from her mistakes, and even if she really truly didn't, bringing a child into that situation is still definitely child abuse. She had steven too soon for me to consider her a "good" person. She tried a bit, but not hard enough for me. (All just my personal opinion, not bashing anyone, no hate, not starting an argument! Just stating how I feel about a fictional character!)

@@TamuTamuOnigiri I don't know a lot about the show, but based off this comment alone, what if she just never considered the consequences of bringing Steven in? Maybe she was unaware of how humans developed and thought "ah yes, child just born = warrior, just like gems" Still a rash decision that doesn't justify what she did, and it still counts as child abuse, but a lot of abusers (haha, parents) don't really recognize abuse because "that's exactly what i went through, and i came out perfectly fine!"

I really want a spin off series where it starts like with Rose’s final moments before Steven is born and then it flashes back to her as Pink and we just get to watch her grow and maybe some of the crazy shenanigans that she did. It wouldn’t even need to be that long of a series but I’d love to see the before stuff more in depth and expanded upon.

[ this is pretty late but I wanted to add my thoughts ] Personally, I never saw Pink Diamond as the villain. Ngl it’s really frustrating to see people feeling bad for Blue Diamond, Yellow Diamond and White Diamond when they were the ones who abused Pink. Pink is definitely a very complex and honestly, quite a tragic character. I feel pretty bad for her, it’s clear that she was suffering from things like abuse and self-loathing (and I say this because since she was locked away for pretty much acting like herself, she probably grew to hate herself so much. This probably explains why she decided to go into a disguise and decided to make her former self, Pink Diamond, seem like a villain and her current self, Rose Quartz, an Angel) I think it’s pretty hard for some people to like Pink due to what happened with Spinel. I’ve noticed that the hate towards her increased after the movie with Spinel, so I’d like to offer my thoughts on it. Honestly, I can see why Pink decided to leave Spinel. I think people tend to forget that Pink was literally planning a secret rebellion, she probably thought she couldn’t trust Spinel since Spinel could of easily told the other Diamonds. Another thing is that Spinel, at the time, was very immature and playful. I mean, she’s literally designed to be like that since her purpose was to give endless entertainment. Pink probably thought she wouldn’t be cut out for war due to Spinel’s immaturity, so that could be counted as another reason too. Now, does this excuse Pink? No, of course not. What happened to Spinel was bad, but I could honestly see why Pink decided to do what she did. Overall, I don’t think Pink is the villain. I mean, if we really want to point fingers, I’d point it at White Diamond. Pink definitely didn’t have bad intentions and without her choosing to rebel, Earth would of been destroyed, Steven never would of existed, Garnet wouldn’t be a thing, Pearl would still be a servant, Amethyst would of also just been another cog for the diamonds and everyone would still live under the cruel system that was created by the diamonds. Tbh Pink just went about it the wrong way. She definitely was ignorant and selfish and hurt a lot of people, but she also wasn’t inherently bad and genuinely wanted what’s best.

She was definitely immature and reckless, but at the same time, she didn’t have evil intentions, I mean it’s not like she started the war for fun. Regarding Spinel, when you’re planning a secret war, you have to be extremely careful who to trust. The diamonds were abusive to Pink, so I understand why Pink decided to keep it a secret from Spinel because there was a chance she could snitch on Pink and that would result in Pink getting into massive trouble. Ngl it’s a pretty accurate representation of leaving abusive situations. When you decide to leave an abusive situation, there’s no “right time” you just have to do it, but with doing this, you’ll be forced to make sacrifices along the way. This could be leaving a prized possession to even leaving behind people you loved and cared about. It’s honestly just a sad reality. Ofc, I’m not excusing Pink for what she did to Spinel, but I’m just saying I could see why she did it.

Another thing is, the diamonds literally threw Pink into the dark whenever she “misbehaved.” Gems are portrayed as reflections and refractions of light. That’s all their physical being is. With that being said, they were physically hurting the physical part of her, as well as mentally hurting her. They’ve done this for thousands of years. That’s all she knows. So when she wanted to get rid of Spinel, what does she do? She puts her somewhere where she can’t physically see her. She threw her away just like the diamonds did to her. She sees nothing wrong with this until she gets to Earth and learns that’s not how you treat people. It’s honestly just beautiful written and I think people forget we watch Roses arc backwards. We see her at first after she’s grown, after she’s matured and learned to love people. We end it when she is at her “worst,” when she’s treated like an object and so that’s how she treats people.

I needed to share this: In the cannon art book called : "End of an era" I read that the First pink pearl was actually shattered because she snapped to the diamonds because of how they treated pink (she kinda yelled at blue and yellow about how bad they made her feel and such) I kinda feel this is important because nobody (probably) thought about a Pearl snaping at a diamond since all of them are really well "behaved" and respectful to all diamonds Wether it's their own or any of the Other 3

Ah, finally an animatic that doesn’t depict Pink Diamond as a monster! For real tho, I love the way you showed Pink in this animatic. Most other artists are quick to point the blame at her, but you took a step back and looked at the whole picture. You showed how the way she was treated by the other Diamonds affected her, as well as her guilt about what she did to Pink Pearl. The way I see it, Pink wasn’t a villain. She was hurt, and didn’t know how to deal with it so she decided to run from her problems instead of facing them head on. Plus, people tend to skim over all of the good things she did as well. She gave the Earth a chance, even though she knew that the others wouldn’t approve. She tried to reverse her decision to colonise it, but she was too late. She decided to fight for the Earth, because she didn’t want all of the life on it to die because of her selfish actions. Yes, she hid her secret from everyone except Pearl, but she did it to protect them from the Diamonds. You captured all of this beautifully in the animatic- both the good and bad sides of Pink Diamond, and you also showed the positive impact her decisions had. The Crystal Gems happy on Earth, free from their oppressors. Steven, the boy that she gave everything up for. You didn’t paint Pink Diamond/ Rose as a monster. You showed her as the person she was- a broken soul who tried everything to reverse her mistake. Thanks Naomi. It’s great to see an artist who looked at all of the angles. It’s awesome to have you back, and I look forward to your next video. Edit: I think I should make something clear: I do not, repeat DO NOT, condone Pink’s actions or what she did prior to the War. And for those who are saying that abuse isn’t an excuse, at no point in my comment did I say Pink’s abuse at the hands of her fellow Diamonds justified her selfish and childish behaviour. @@fairy5484 Although this isn't directly stated or even lightly implied, I feel like I have a good idea on why she actually didn't want to be around Spinel. Our Pearl knew Spinel, which means that Pink Diamond received Spinel after the incident with Pink Pearl. It would make sense. The Diamonds thought that Pink Pearl was a bad influence, and since she was damaged, they decided that it was about time they gave her a new, more sensible one, so that she would be a good advisor and have a positive influence on Pink Diamond. Still, the Diamonds knew Pink was very playful, so they gave her Spinel. A pink gem, with a goofy and humorous personality. Nothing more than a sentient toy, meant to replace Pink Pearl. But Spinel couldn't achieve that. In the garden Pink already acts a bit more serious, and also tired. What she did to Pink Pearl had such an impact on her, that ever since that incident, she never was the same. Just listen to the argument between Pink and CG Pearl in "Volleyball". Pink Diamond did a complete 180 degree turn when it comes to how she behaved. Spinel herself can be really overwhelming and make those around her uncomfortable (she really doesn't know what personal space is). When you consider that she was just a toy that was meant to replace the older, broken toy (Pink Pearl), and that she even acted in a very similar way, I think you'd see why being around her would only bring painful memories to Pink Diamond. While it is true that what she did to Spinel was very insensitive and bad, I don't think she did it out of malice. It would not be in her character, at any point in time.

In Steven universe future, they were just trying to speed run the fandom into hating rose. It’s not fair at all that the other diamonds, the shatterers, her abusers, literally get a redemption arc.. sure, she made some unforgivable mistakes, but she never meant to hurt anybody. she’s a diamond! And she was in a mind state of a child, and no child should be able to contain power like that. She tried SO hard to stop the diamonds from shattering gems, but it was NEVER enough. Her growth and achievements were never acknowledged perfectly.. and she just did things for own happiness that CAN be counted as selfish.. And i will stick to that.

I don't really understand why people use the word "villain" in the comments. I never felt like.. She was ever shown or portrait like that. She was Steven's mom who's been loved and missed by many. Who we, as viewers, never got to know. We all just got the views of rose through different beings eyes.

Everyone saw how Spinel and a Pink Pearl were mistreated and abandoned by Pink and hate her.. *But nobody talks about the same thing happening to Pink/Rose*

Oh this, this is beautiful. And now that Steven Universe is officially over, I really want to see another movie, this time a prequel, focusing on the entire life and hardships of Pink Diamond.

A lot of how someone thinks of Pink can change once you realize she is framed as basically being the child of the group. She is a gem and very old compared to people, yes. But character wise she was the child in the Diamond group. So like a child she was rash, rebellious, petulant, naive, and extremely emotionally unwise and sometimes selfish. And yet, also like the child she has the strongest will for change and the greatest sense for justice. She's the one to realize that the way the diamonds treat their gems and the planets is wrong and she tries to correct it... but inevitably does it in a way that was messy

Exactly Pink Diamond is an interesting and intricate character. She made a lot of mistakes and her behavior can't be completely justified by the other Diamond's abuse but she did try to reverse her mistakes and made an effort to try and protect the ones she loved.

That moment when she lost Volleyball really hit me. You know how the diamonds gained new powers which where basically reverse of what they had before? Same happened to Pink. When she lost Volleyball she probably had some sort of breakdown. To the point that her powers changed. From destructive tantrums to a healer. Really makes you think It also explains why Pearl and Pink Pearl where fighting in Future. Because Pink Pearl knew Pink that was destructive, childish, and impatient. Our Pearl knew the Pink that she became after losing her friend. Reversed.

I was also thinking this! I would like to add though, she’s still a morally gray character. Choosing to blame the crystal gems for the rebellion and hiding that she was both rose quartz and pink diamond shows she was selfish. Choosing to bubble bismuth rather than just tell her the truth shows she wasn’t empathetic. She isn’t a bad guy, but her past doesn’t excuse her actions.

@@Overused_Toothbrush I'd say she remained a childish character throughout the story, much like Blue remained empathetic, Yellow remained authoritative, and White remained motherly.What changed was how Pink channeled her childish tendencies. White channeled her motherly demeanor from being used to control to be used for compassion and understanding. Yellow's authoritative demeanor from being used to make people fall in line in fear to encouraging their self discovery, and Blue's spreading of her sadness to ensure everyone grieved as she did to creating joy to help others find peace. Pink likewise channeled her childishness from being used to selfishly destroy to selflessly create. She remained shortsighted, prone to emotional outbursts, and stubborn, but she ensured that those normally negative traits were used towards positive goals. I wouldn't say she was morally grey so much as I would that she still had much growing to do. Her goals were morally just, she just lacked the wisdom needed to ensure her actions lived up to the tall standard she set for herself.

1:44 I love this part which is repeating de phrase "shine bright like a diamond". When it's White diamond showing it looks like her is saying to pink that she must shine bright like a diamond is supposed to bright. Like she must be perfect like white, blue and yellow as well. But when it comes to bismuth scene, it feels like bismuth is saying to rose that they (the crystal gems) will shine bright like a diamond with the crack weapon that she made to crack the Diamonds. Like they were supposed to win the war. Man, this animated video is amazing, congratulations. And I never thought that Rihanna's song would fit so well to SU story

I'm so glad to find someone who doesn't depict Rose/Pink as a horrible person she's... flawed. She did horrible things as both Pink and Rose like leaving spinel behind, poofing and bubbling Bismuth, fake her own shattering (but that's like 50/50 good and bad because she needed to escape the Diamond Authority along with accidently making the Diamonds corrupt her friends/Allies), and so much more. She's not a villain she doesn't understand what her actions would cause because she just wants the best for everyone. In Stevens case she didn't expect the Diamonds and other gems to come looking for her or too attack her home after The Gem War. She wanted Steven to live a wonderful life and accidently making him suffer

Considering all gems are made from a flat pre-programmed state, it’s no wonder. Especially since Pearls were originally made to order servants, ones who are programmed to never consider themselves. Eventually they change, and start being dynamic. But in pearls case…. She still never left her side.

Finally! Showing what Rose/Pink trully is. I'm tired of peoole demonising her, yes, she made mistakes but other characters did, too. She wasn'g evil, she changed for the best and her intentions never were to let Steven hanlde her problems (she didn't know about the cluster, she didn't think the diamonds would come back to earth, she couldn't come back for spinel or pink pearl, etc.)

The main reason people dislike rose is because not how many mistakes she made, Its How BAD they are, she abandoned a friend stuck to rot for 10,000 years, She started a revolutuon which inevitability got hundreds of gems corrupted, she permanently damaged her own pearl and proceeded to keep horrible secrets from the next one, steven not only had to fix multiple worlds and galaxies, he had to confront his mothers mistakes. She is the embodiment of a horrible person not because of how many mistakes but she did really bad things and pushed them on to her son when she didnt want to deal with them making up excuses of false love like "If you love me, you are also loving yourself" rose/pink diamond wasnt meant to be the Bad person but her entire backstory is just ridden with awfulness.

@@thebackroundguy1668 The mistakes you are talking about is when she was still Pink and Rose is not Pink just as Steven is not Rose/Pink. If she hadn't left Spinel...what would have happened to her? Besides gems can't die because of time, it was awful but in gem terms not that much as it'd be for humans (besides that was Pink, not Rose) You talk about the corruption like if that was her fault, she didn't say "come and get corrupted", if you are going to war you know you might die and Rose couldn't predict what would happen to them, she literally saved a whole planet. Also, Rose couldn't know that all of those problems were coming back for Steven, she thought it was all over and there were many things that she just wouldn't be able to fix and many other things that she couldn't have known about. The problem is thay they make it look like it was her fault when it wasn't: she can't see future and Garnet can only see possibilites. If she hadn't started the revolution then there'd be no earth at all and the diamonds would still be "evil". People should consider that before blaming her for absolutely everything.

a rose quartz / pink diamond spin off would greatly help fan opinion on rose, showing her growth instead of showing her start as rose and then turn into pink as it messed up many peoples views with her, a 5 episode, each 20-25 minute long mini-series would be perfect, each representing some era, the first being her start as pink, possibly her first emerging, letting us see more about the diamonds, like how white was before pink "shattered" which would clear up a lot that future didnt, and the final era would be her shortly before she "dies?" as more of a lore show, i think a lot of people would like that, not too mention it would make people like rose much more as the fans can see her in her proper growth order instead of backwards and get the proper image of her.

in steven universe we see all of rose/pink's character development in reverse. she starts out as this legendary figure who seems to do no wrong, and little by little you find out about her past mistakes, and what we knew about her earlier is recontextualized as her trying to make up for what she did in the past. but like every other character in the show she's made mistakes that have irrepairably harmed those she loves, and all everyone else can do is move on

Thank you for this video! Btw i've been thinking... as I see Rose/Pink as a morally grey character, and I agree with the fact that, consciously or not, she did run away from her problems by forcing Steven to deal with them.... I think that she hated herself, and knew she's done lots of mistakes and never forgived herself for that. Maybe she thought she was unredeemable and thought that she could only make the situation worse. Someone new had to take her place, someone pure who didn't commit a single sin... Someone who could actually make things better, because they ARE better. Because a Diamond will never fully understand lower gems and humans, not like Steven can do.

I’ve never thought Pink was a monster really ever, But when we saw how she abandoned Spinel, I was just, Fed up. But Pink was a good person if you look at it- She abandoned Spinel to keep her safe from war or because she wouldn’t grow up, and kept pink from that. She fought for the earth to protect the life on it. She wanted to get away from the things the other Diamonds put her through. She gave up her form to make an entirely new life. And she only kept it a secret that she was a Diamond to keep the other crystal gems safe from the Diamonds, and probably to also keep her pearl which probably would be shattered, and herself who would most likely be bubbled for eons, Safe. Edit: (( Alright, by the Abandoned Spinel to keep her safe from the war, Another way I said this in my head was- " She didn’t expect for Spinel to be forgotten, But it was also because Spinel kept her from growing, as she refused to grow up herself. ))

Pink didn't keep spinel safe from the war, she abandoned her because she believed that Spinel would be a problem when she got her colony remember in drift away Spinel was getting on Pink's nerves when the diamonds told her that she'll get a colony. The war didn't come until Pearl gave Pink the idea to change her form to a quartz for a day, Pink abandoned Spinel before she colonized the earth. I suggest you watch the movie again or watch the song again.

Tiniya P. still. not saying it’s spinels fault but pink grew up and spinel didn’t and although she didn’t mean to, she was holding pink down from growing even further and blooming into a flower. this story line would have been okay if spinel had other people she was friends with but pink felt bad for telling spinel her true feelings and she probably wouldn’t have listened so she found a way to make spinel leave her alone.

Plus, I don’t think Pink really expected Spinel to actually just stand there forever. She probably assumed someone would come along and use Spinel for something else eventually. She’s royalty, after all, she’s used to people doing that sort of thing for her. Spinel was just forgotten by _everyone._ And she never moved to leave, so she just stayed that way. Not that that was her fault, though.

I’ve always thought about how Steven can literally empathize with anyone put in a compassionate light. But I’ve also always thought about how Steven can have double standards in the respect that pink hurt everyone HE loved, so he can’t forgive the devil of his life.. but he can forgive the worse gems like blue yellow and white. I guess it’s also the strain that while pink did do it, it also makes Steven think that HE did it. The sins of the mother, literally passed onto Steven to fix her mistakes or live with them forever. The weight of the universe is literally on his shoulders

Pink was never a villain, and this really showed it. She saw the planets (earth specifically) have beauty, and wanted to protect them. While we have only seen so much about Pink's life being Rose or as a Diamond, (even finding out how she was treated seeing how the Diamonds were to Steven) It really shows how some of her powers became emotion based due to abuse for acting out as a example. This was a really nice animation, and I like the style.

Finally a animatic that doesn’t display Pink as a monster or backwards. I like at the end it portrays how her story is usually told (backwards) She was treated as an important gem but she was being abused for every wrong thing she did. Like Pink Pearl said Pink was the one who cracked her eye. When she saw what she did when she saw her new Pearl she was sad at first and lived to love her and chances are forgot Pink Pearl. After faking her shattering she lived a life as Rose Quartz. She fell in love with Greg and either couldn’t know what gender her baby was or she had twins. She would either have Steven or Nora from what she said in the tape and background from Greg. In the movie we learned that Rose/Pink had a playmate named Spinel. After this movie people were pretty much on the fact that Pink was evil. In my case, no. I know it sounds wrong but think of Spinel as a toy. Her gem was programmed to be your friend. When she got a colony that was when she “grew up”. Everyone grows away from the past. That includes leaving your toys behind. It was time for Pink to leave Spinel behind. Of course Pink probably didn’t mean to leave her forever. Pink probably just forgot she ever left Spinel. If I should add anything just ask me and I’ll edit this comment.

"compassionate person" remember she only started seeing humans as beings worth respect when she met Greg in the 80s. Earth was her sandbox and the war was her game. A game she passed onto steven, and thousands of rose quartz who were all punished for Pink's actions.

This gives pink a whole new perspective, there’s a lot of others pushing down the emotional abuse she dealt like she didn’t really do it out of amusement to hurt others. She did it’s so she could protect life and experience something outside of the same mental agony she felt. The video puts it into her views and how she was trying to handle problems.

I love how complicated pink/rose is. It's not like she just ran away for funzies, she was escaping from the diamonds and they didn't know they were mistreating her.

It has always been in my opinion since the reveal of Rose’s past that she is, by far, the most tragic character of the entire series. Especially when you realize that she’s lowkey suicidal. Strive as she did to become someone else and impart the feeling of individualism in her followers, Rose never really believed thats she herself could become anything better. This can be seen in her conversations with Greg and in the end credits song. But she found a way in the end. By giving up her form, her memories, her entire self, she could create Steven a human. A species she has always admired for their innate ability to change and self-invent. And even just to be apart of that through her relationship to Steven, she was willing to die to do so.

I love her so much, that It breaks my heart everytime when someone hate her

I like how you kept the upbeat parts of the song for when she WASN'T Pink Diamond. After all, she shone her brightest when she was pretending to be a Rose Quartz, not attempting to fill a mold of a perfect diamond.

Rose/Pink did a lot of stuff that was not right, but based on what we know about the other diamonds, she was treated awfully by them. That doesn’t excuse what Pink did, but that’s all she knew. I don’t think she was the best thing ever, but she definitely grew to learn from her mistakes. At the end, she grew into a better person than when she started out. The way the show portrays her is in the opposite order of development, which isn’t bad, but shows her in a more negative light. Tl;dr Awesome animatic and Pink isn’t nearly the monster everyone makes her out to be.

I think people saw her as a bad person because the show had no choice but to show her worse traits, and people saw that as her getting worse, but the show was just showing things backwards.

I felt it was good intentions but bad execution. It was a dumb idea for someone who's never waged a war to start one. She hurt all involved including herself. The fact she kept most things about herself secret even from Pearl tells me she shut down mentally. Might explain why she never gave Pearl a chance. Probably thought she'd just make more mistakes and hurt another friend. This is why gem society needs psychiatric help. Pink is so mentally unhealthy and copes with her problems in such unhealthy ways.

So many people has always thought that Pink diamond was the truly evil person because of how her actions affected others, I've wondered she would feel the same. And as I thought of it more and more, I realize she would probably agree. And maybe that's part of the reason why she had Steven. Maybe she wanted to make someone better than her, someone that won't repeat her mistakes. Maybe that's why she made sure that no one knew Rose Quartz was Pink Diamond. Because if Steven knew, he might repeat these mistakes. Like Mother, like son. Now, of course, it's selfish. Why doesn't Rose Quartz do it herself? It's her mistakes, let her fix it. And, I think I have an answer for that. I think she did try to fix it before. There's very little proof of it. The only thing I got is the repeated phrase of "Let me help you!" Anyways, I believe she did try to fix her mistakes before but it backfired on her and made things worse instead of better. She's afraid of making things worse. And so, by having a baby with Greg Universe, who has better record of solving problems than most, it would create child who has the best of both worlds. The kindness and open-mindfulness of Pink Diamond and the problem solving capabilities of Greg Universe. Idk. I'm just bored and when I bored, I think of shit like this.

I have always thought this as well, it's especially evident in the tape she left Steven that maybe deep down she wanted to be human. In her view humans could grow and change and become different people.

Gosh. It does such a good job of showing how much history is in one kid’s belly button. Reminds me of the superpower, “psychometry,” the ability to see an object’s history through touch. Many things seem flat and basic, and it is easy to judge things based off of how useful they currently are, or the few facts we are presented. Pink Diamond Rose Quartz was her own being. She had a full history WAY before Steven was even a possible notion. This is beautifully portrayed in this video.

I'm actually surprised that this hasn't been done till now. But this is honestly one of my favorite Steven Universe animatics. The art style is so close to the show and I just love Pink Diamond's story. No matter how many times I hear it I love it like it's the first time I heard it. And it's wonderful to have a break from the whole "Pink Diamond's the real villain" thing. She's just a person. A person who made a bunch of bad decisions. Like us all.

This song fits the diamonds so much and the show because it is so cool how it’s saying diamonds and stuff because it is about diamonds and powerful diamonds lol

an old friend who turned out to be toxic introduced me to this video about a year ago. today it showed up on my fy page, and it just adds a whole other level. it’s an amazing video and you’re very talented. ❤

The important thing about Pink is you have to imagine her complexly. She starts off immature & through a lot of mistakes & growth does her best to make up for past errors. And that’s really admirable.

However if the show was real, my biggest guess would be that it is too risky as Spinel is in diamond area and if she were to tell Spinel that she is back then Spinel would create chaos by accidentally announcing to the world that she is back.

Rose tried so, so hard to be a good person with absolutely no frame of reference. Her only ""parental"" figures, the Diamonds, were terrible and abusive and toxic. Like most people who suffer abuse, she picked up some of their toxic traits without ever realizing it, like with Pink Pearl. Rose had to completely learn how to be nice to people, to be respectful and kind and not controlling. She even reclaimed some of her trauma, with her healing tears compared to how Blue always *made* her cry. That doesn't mean she didn't hurt others. That doesn't mean she didn't give others terrible trauma as well. But she did try so hard to learn and change and she ended up being a better person than she needed to be. You've gotta give her credit for realizing she was terrible and she was hurting others and genuinely changing, while not *expecting* forgiveness from those she hurt.

I love the fact that all of the top comments are about how great of a character Rose/Pink was and how she's not nearly as much of a villain as people make her out to be. These are my people.

Sometimes I feel like I can see myself as Pink or Rose cause she’s like a human, and I love her for that. She has flaws like anyone else, She grew which was something apparently gems couldn’t do. She’s been through so much, though that doesn’t excuse her mistakes she tries to redeem herself. She is one of the most complex and interesting characters in the entirety of the show, that’s why I cannot help, but just loving her. I think calling her a monster is a stretch. I honestly hope we get to see more of Pink/Rose story I feel it would be an emotional and intriguing watch tbh.

When you think about it, Rose wanted Steven because he would be Human and he would learn and grow from his mistakes, but she thought she wasn’t capable of changing anymore, because she noticed all the bad things she did! Little did she know, she was the most human Gem in the Show! She made many mistakes but she learned and grew from them! Even though she made even more mistakes through her life, she always tried to redeem herself, but she saw that only redeeming herself wouldn’t be enough, so she had Steven, a Human that would learn from his mistakes and grow into a better person. Rose noticed her errors, and noticing your errors is the best thing you can do as a Human. It all makes sense now, When Rose was fascinated about the capability of Humans to grow, she wasn’t fascinated about how we can literally grow, she was fascinated about how we can grow from our errors! Because she wanted to be capable of doing that because she knows she made many mistakes!

This is the first time I actually feel bad for Pink, I've always seen her as irresponsible but this makes me have more mixed feelings than anything else. Such a MASTERPIECE 💕💕

Something about this is so addicting?? I've watched this so many times and it's amazing each time. The amount of effort and work put into this is beautiful and it just makes me happy since I love this show so much :)

If you think about, Rose was more human than she thought. She wanted desperately to escape her past and when the opportunity arose she took it, it was probably the most problematic option but it’s still what she chose. She caused huge problems, both figuratively and literally breaking people as she walked her path but she also made some things better for the people on earth and for many of the gems who wanted their freedom. She is flawed and imperfect but she still meant well for everyone around her.

That was absolutely incredible... I can feel my heart pounding. This is the right way to show Pink/Rose and her story unfold. All her mistakes and flaws, but all her beauty and grandeur too... That final shot of Baby Steven and his gem inside of the diamond hit me harder than I was expected. His mom wasn't a monster. She was all too human. A beautiful messy human being... She'd just been unfortunate enough to be too much of a gem to fully embrace the human she'd always been deep down, and too much of a human to be the Gem that the Diamonds needed her to be.

@@ivorism4563 true. Pink isn't completely innocent. Her past abuse may have shaped and influenced her later actions, but it doesn't justify them. Honestly, I think that the view she was completely innocent is really flawed, but at the same time, I kinda like her character for how flawed and complex she is. Personally, I agree with the idea that her flaws are really human (which I find kind of relatable), for a gem. But yeah, as you said, she has done a lot of terrible things, so I can understand why you might think that. Have a nice day. :)

This video is so painfully beautiful. Tells the story of a victim of abuse running away perfectly. This strikes so close to home for me... I wish I could be as strong as Pink.

I wish they could've complexed Rose story better than how the show did to her, she is and is one of the mysteries unique characters out there. Just wished she was more expanded and HAD HER BACKSTORY SET CORRECTLY instead of that messy timeline that made people think she was a villain. After the Spinel movie I think that when people started to hated her more but I'm not sure, I used to dislike her but now I don't since I see her point more differently

They Were all abusive in there own ways Blue used her aura on her and made her feel grief Yellow used her authority to put her in line And white used her motherly tendencies on her in the wrong way

Pink was NOT a Monster! She did she many amazing things, sure she made some mistakes but everyone does. This animatic is my favourite EVER! I love Pink/Rose and Pearl’s story, it’s so tragic but detailed and well written. I hate people that say she was the real villain, I feel like if they watched this their whole opinion may change. Right, I think people just use the word Animatic as another term now, because animatic is another word for story board. So now I think people are just using the word animatic as another version of PMV (Picture Music Video)? Cause that’s what these are.

Dang...That was intense, seeing pink diamond aka Rose past, present and future. The moment she endured a neglectful and unhealthy childhood. No wonder she cause an rebellion against her own sisters. She could take the pain and suffering anymore and want to do something right for once in her life. Despite all the mistakes, lies and secrets she made over the years. She sacrifice everything just to save a innocent planet and live her life a human being. Instead of being a diamond.

The moment when Steven says "mom was pink diamond..." and the song comes back with "so shine bright! (..)" returning to all things that Pink have done I'M CRYING HERE OKAY! And when she falls at her knees seeing that she comitês a big mistake hurting volleyball that was the only one who could understand her And when Blue and yellow throw her at the room where she gets grounded And the first time where the song says "so shine bright!~ (...)" with pink's gem at the middle of the other diamonds hands, and then the gem is in a bubble AAAAA OMG TwT I just can't, this was perfect! I loved it!!!! ♡w♡
