    Incredibly hot here in London too. Always watch your videos mate, started watching when my PS4 would not show video, ended up replacing the HDMI IC. You're probably one of the most thorough technicians for consoles I've ever seen, and one of the most professional electronic circuitry solderers.

    Thank you for another very helpfull video, the tip about putting leaded solder onto unleaded to free it up solved a lot of my problems, another surprise is how much heat these boards and their components can take, have just ordered a reflow hot air gun, regards Doc Cox.

    Hello Andrew. Just wanna say love your videos they help alot. I want to ask you something. Have this same model (phat ps4 1116) from my cousin and it stopped working the USB ports. He said that it had some power problems (cuts) in his house and in one day after (maybe) 3 cuts of eletricity the PS4 ports won't work again. They have no power and no activity whatsoever. This is just the GL3520 ic or can be the southbridge only (or both)? How can you discard the problem source (being from one of them or both)? The vbus pin is like 3.2V and the 3.3V/5V pins are around just 1V (maybe bit more like 1.2V) from the GL3520. If you can point me something i will appreciate your help. Thanks once more and keep the good work you have been doing.

    now lets check continuity down the wire. Hmmmm big thick wire, can clearly see the whole short length. REDUNDANT! don't mean to be a douche, because of your very good work andrew. good job! if you get a small ultra-violet light, the time is reduced to less than a minute to harden up.

    Hes using a fiber glass brush, can find them on amazon. Whatever temp hes using on the hot air isn't gonna translate to your machine most of the time. Using the hot air is one of those things that takes a bit of feel and experience. Even if you knew the temp he is using, you still dont know how much airflow hes using and a lot of the time you "adjust" you temp with the hot air more or less by moving closer or farther.

  • @eliprovencher4542

    @eliprovencher4542

    Mickey Rippin each iron is its own, you have to know your iron and tip. A good test is to start around 300°C, lay a dot of flux right on the pad, and set your iron against the edge. Keep increasing temp by 10° til you see the solder go bright in a reasonable amount of time. I know my iron is around 350-375 for most things, but I hear others roaring at incredibly hotter temps

    Loving the videos. If my HDMI to VGA box was one of the Pro ones that cost £££ I would send it to you but as it's a cheap one, I'll just try to do it myself and if I EFF it up I'll just buy another. This is a pic of the state of the HDMI port connections. i.imgur.com/AyUN9OA.jpg It worked for about 30 mins then the box got really hot and stopped working. I have a x10 visor with extra lenses to bump upto x15. Wish me luck 😁

    I believe it was a DIY effort. You make a good point - whilst I don't discourage people from trying to do things themselves, it's a good idea to be honest with yourself as to your skill levels when looking to take on something like this as if it's not something you've ever ventured into before then replacing these is not the best place to start with electronics rework.
