PS3 Slim Drive Not Accepting Discs Properly (450DAA Drive Assembly)

Ойындар

Customer system came in complaining that it wasn't taking in discs properly anymore. Customer opened it up to clean it out and it was working before hand. We opened it up and figured it out without a ton of time spent. It is always recommended that if you think your system needs overall maintenance, bring it to the professionals who do this on a daily basis to ensure that it gets done right the first time and works as good as new. :)

    Thank you so much. It has been 2 days since I opened my PS3 trying to clean it. Put everything back the way it was and then my disc would read, go in or come out. I have spent hours on KZread until I found you. OMG thank you so much. All the videos didn't get down to the point, to the exact thing I didn't know I needed, but you did You have got yourself another subscriber.

    Thank you so much!!! I followed your instructions on another video to help me replace my laser. But I was tired and didn't notice that little white gear fall out, so when I put it back together it wouldn't take a disc without a push. And then it wouldn't eject them. Watching this video I was able to hunt down that gear (it had rolled under something) put it back in and now my PS3 is working perfectly. You are absolutely awesome in my book. Thanks again!!!! (btw I even got all the screws back in their right places.) LOL)

    Super happy I came across your video. Did a tear down of my old ps3 completely cleaned. Reassembled and the drive wast working proper. Watched this video to find out there was a ribbon cable under the disc drive. Apparently when I lifted it up that ribbon popped inside the metal casing and didn't notice it. Works flawless again. Good video. Nice in depth. Should help alot of people

    Saved my bacon with this video! I opened the drive with a DVD installed and while taking the drive apart the arms got out of whack cause i pulled the DVD out of the side of the drive and could not load a DVD when re-assembled. Had to take the drive apart again and the double sided gear in the corner of the drive had to be aligned and inserted fully so drive can be assembled easily and perfectly aligned. Removing the arm top cover to reset the loading arms helped as well! Thanks bud!

    Thanks for the video man, it was especially informative. My problem persists, though. It happened as you said, with the tin casing (PC fell on it, left a dent in casing through the PS3 shell). At first, the problem was that no disc would feed into it, but I fixed that. Then no disc would READ, so I bought a replacement for the bluray drive, a KEM450EAA. Just got it today, and after installing it and everything I'm actually suffering from the first problem. The discs will not go into the PS3 whatsoever. Unlike the first time, however, now they will not eject, and this had not happened until I replaced the original drive, which I still have. I've tried the loader at the bottom and such, and even thought it was the spring arm (tricky little coil almost drove me insane trying to get it back on). As it is, I learned that the bottom cable for the drive is especially crucial, as if I plug it in incorrectly, the PS3 will not start up. With the new drive however, by plugging it in all the way (I think I'm getting good at it), the drive whirs with activity and lights up. Thus, I HOPE the disc reading problem is solved. Only problem is now I can't get any discs in. Do you have any suggestions? I've stripped it down as you did and reassembled it, but with no luck. Also, sorry for the long comment - I'm hoping my story can help someone else out there.

    Well, first off, you will have issues with that replacement drive regardless unless your original drive was a 450EAA. The only lasers that are cross compatible with all models are the 450AAA and 450DAA. Those are the only two lasers we ever stock since they are compatible with all models. We use the 450AAA on all the driveboard mounted on the drive systems and the 450DAA on all the mainboard integrated driveboards like yours.

  • @MrOnepiece14

    The original was indeed a 450eaa. However I've since realized the problem (I hope). Upon installing the new drive, reassembling, and hooking it back up, I plugged one of the rear cables (The small blue one that goes on the left port behind the drive) into the wrong port (the middle one). This cable plugs directly into a circuit or somesuch that I've been told controls the disc-feed function, which is quite telling, since after installing the replacement drive my PS3 no longer accepts or ejects discs. Do you have any idea what the name of that cable is? I bought what I thought was a replacement, but it ended up being for the power/eject buttons, and was far, FAR too short for my purposes. It seemed to fit into the port, though, but so did the original cord, and that obviously didn't end up well. I've been trying to find the specific name, or a replacement for it, but so far have only gotten 8pin, 9 pin, 6 and 10 pin ribbon/connector cables. It's crazy.

  • @PowerUpGamingCanada

    @PowerUpGamingCanada

    It sounds like you got the right cable but one meant for the original PS3 slim systems that only needs to go from the carrier to the driveboard on the drive itself. You need one from the newer generation of the PS3 slims which is longer and meant to go from the carrier to the mainboard. Not sure what the cable is called directly. Sorry.

Last week i decided to try and fix it but got normal torx screws(finding the security torx screws were the biggest pain (t8/t10)).today i have found the problems*, there are 3 DISKS INSIDE, AND A PIECE OF GUM PREVENTING THE MOTORS FROM WORKING 😵,i knew i shouldn’t have given up on it. I know this is a really old video, but I found it informative. I am currently working on a CECH-2501a that was suffering from overheating issues. I replaced the fan and now that's fixed. However, I'm trying to install a new hard drive. I keep getting the 8002F14E error. Makes sense, the Blu Ray drive doesn't work.. At all.. In taking it apart and looking at it, it would appear that the only "mechanical" components are the actual laser tray. Would it be safe to assume that replacing the laser tray would resolve my problems and bring the rest of the drive back to life? When I power it on the laser moves down, vertically, a little but it doesn't do anything else.. Just looking for some advice. :) Thanks!

    NIce to have finally found a real tech expert who knows what he's talking about. most vids with this issue say to "tilt ps3 upwards in the front", LOL. I've done all that you described in this video and still have issues with reading discs. When inserting a disc, it tries to read it and then makes the eject type noise and wont do anything else after that. I tried cleaning the laser with no positive result. All the cables are correctly seated in their proper positions. IDK if the laser is misaligned or what. Should I replace the drive itself or just lens mechanism? Won't read any discs.

  • @PowerUpGamingCanada

    Your laser is not reading the disc. You need to replace it with a new one. What you are hearing is the disc attempt to be read, then it tries to reload it in the drive and try again.

It spins and then it makes the sounds like it's going to eject and reload the disc. And then it just stops... exactly as you described. Is this fault caused ONLY by a faulty laser? I've already looked into and researched the prices of replacements ones. Not too expensive. I however wanted to ask the question and see if anyone else or you've found the same problem caused by something totally different, OR if the laser being replaced will cure the problem. The laser itself or the caddy that the laser is housed into with have the part number on it. There is really only two different ones that you have to be concerned with when dealing with slim systems. The 450DAA and 450AAA. The 450DAA is what is featured in this video and has no driveboard on the drive itself, it is integrated into the mainboard. The 450AAA PS3 has one single flat ribbon cable that goes from the drive to the mainboard and that one uses a non-integrated drive-board.

Months later I come back to try to fix my ps3 one last time. I checked every single ribbon to make sure everything was connected. After that, I reconnected all the ribbons except the smallest ribbon on the backside of the disc drive. I tried to reconnect it but the small blue piece fell off so the ribbon wouldn’t stay put. After that I put everything back together and my ps3 magically had life in it. But, when I try to enter a disc into it, it doesn’t accept it. What should I do?

    Those ribbon cables can take quite a lot of abuse. If it doesn't take the disc at all then it could be a motor control chip issue on the driveboard. If you have one of the newer push button PS4 systems then it is located on the mainboard. It would need to be replaced but that isn't something that a typical home repair guy can do without the proper tools.

    Hello, thanks for this video. I have the problem you describe, my ps3 loads the discs but has trouble reading them, it spins 2 or 3 times then tries to reload and then stops. It reads only DVDs, no Blurays. I try changing the deck+lens, I have the same in the video with the 2 flat head screws (not 4). I did it all very carefully but after the mechanism loads the disc it won't read and makes a weird noise, it's like you describe, maybe the lens is not firing up. Do I need to do a "restore system" so the ps3 "installs" the new lens? I try re installing the old deck+lens and still have the same problem. I would like to install the new lens but I have the problem that now it does not spin nor read whit this new hardware. I am sure I bought the proper deck+lens, the model number coincide with the old one. Any help will be greatly appreciate. Bye!

    I have just started having this issue, I have taken many many ps3's apart over the last 8 years or so, this one I have now has had 3 new lasers in, 450AAA in at the moment with the board and ribbons inside the case, apart from the ribbon that goes from the motherboard to the blu-ray drive board. I am actually stumped this time completely, it will not take the disc in at all, the motor does not spin at all when I try but the motor is working as if I have a disc in there and hold the eject button for about 15 seconds it ejects it out, very slowly but it does eject, so I know the motor is good, when I try and feed the disc in the blue light on the power/eject board flashes but nothing happens, and the laser doesn't move at all, doesn't make a sound, it doesn't move on the rails at all. I don't know if it could be the sensor maybe, but I was thinking if the blue light flashes when I try putting a disc in that the sensor is working, maybe that is wrong and that's just the disc hitting a sensor arm maybe. And all the cogs are in place so are seated correctly and not binding. The only other thing I think it maybe could be is a ribbon, I have had this one apart many many times, it has been trial and error with repairs over the years with 3 new lasers and eject ribbons and such. so the ribbon that goes from behind the Blu-ray drive under the battery to the blu ray board is quite twisted and frail, as it twists over the top of the metal tin cover, so I don't know whether that could be the problem, but knowhere on the internet can I find info on the ribbons, as in which does what and so on. But I think maybe the sensor or a ribbon. But yes sir I am stumped right now, first time in 8 years. But anyway, ur videos are informative and really good, I wish there was more like you out there. God, I hate not knowing what is wrong with it, I don't want to just buy parts and hope its that, if its not I will just keep buying different ones and that coud get expensive. And I wish we had a shop like yours over here in the UK, I would take it there in a heartbeat right now sir.

  • @PowerUpGamingCanada

    @PowerUpGamingCanada

    So, without seeing the system first hand it is hard to know exactly what is going on but the sensors that detect the disc are pretty good and don't really go bad. So, we are left with two possibles since you know the motor is good. #1 - Motor Driver chip has gone bad. Depending on your model, it could be located on the drive board attached to the drive or it could be integrated into the motherboard. #2 - The ribbon cable. I think you already suspected this could be the problem. Based on percentages, I would say 75% chance it is the motor driver chip and 25% chance it is the ribbon cable. Wish I had better news for you. The later model PS3 slim systems were plagued with systems that come in with drives doing nothing or working for the first few minutes then slowly failing to do anything almost like there is a power problem.

  • @Adamgreen735

    @Adamgreen735

    7 жыл бұрын

    Thank you for the reply sir, I am just guessing its ribbon as I just cant pin it down to anything else. If it is the chip, which is on the logic board in the bluray drive, then that would mean a whole new drive, as you cant just get a new board and pair it up if I'm right in that, doesn't it have to be mated in some way. And I don't solder so that's a no no for a new chip. I have just took a video of my problem to show you but I don't know how to send it to your channel or In a reply. But its okay, I guess your a busy dude, lots of broken ps3's and probably lots of ps4's, that wouldn't surprise me at all!

  • @PowerUpGamingCanada

    @PowerUpGamingCanada

    7 жыл бұрын

    Yes, I forgot to mention, it is the chip then you would be forced to replace the chip or have someone do it. The driveboard is married to the system chips. You can't change out the driveboard with a different one without doing a lot more complex work and downgrading the firmware to the point where you could marry the replacement board to the system.

    This is what is happening in your system: Insert the disc and hear it start to spin. It makes a sound like it is trying to eject which is actually the system trying to re-load the disc in a second attempt at reading it. System tries to spin and read the disc and then fails. So, yes, that is exactly what the system is trying to do. Hopefully that helps. :) And further to that. There are two different lasers that you have to be aware of. 450AAA and 450DAA. If you put the incorrect laser in the drive then it will read DVD's, CD's and Games fine but it won't read Blu-Ray movies. The earlier slim units used the 450AAA and the later models used the 450DAA.

Then I tried the console and everything worked fine. After transporting it in a Backpack, it wouldn't read disks. Only when tilted. But the discs were at least ejected. Several recovery mode options later, I opened the drive but only the top cover. After taking the white magnetic circle thing, I cleaned the lenses with qtips and alcohol. After putting everything together and sliding a disc in: voila! The disc was being readed and showed up. But there was no blue light over the eject button. Although a disk was inside. When hitting the eject button, it made 3 beeps and didn't eject the disk. The only way is to use the options menu. After several tries( turing off, restore file data...., checking all cables,....) it didn't even read the disks. So I couldn't eject them anymore So what did i do? I took it again apart and took the disk out of disk drive. Even resetted the drive. I also cleaned the lens again. After putting everything back the disks where read again. I can even play some of them. But there is still no blue light over the eject button. Ejecting works still only through the option menu. I opened up my PS3 to clean it and removed the drive didn't take it apart but once I assembled it back it won't spin it will and when it does it makes a scratching sound and won't eject but beeps 3 times. Any suggestions?

  • @PowerUpGamingCanada

    Wow. Ok, so there might be multiple things that you could have done wrong. First off, there is never a reason to take apart your drive and "clean it" unless it is full of crud or something. When it comes to making a scratching sound then I would guess that would be the little round magnetic disc holder not being reinstalled in the top of the drive when being put back together. BUT, that wouldn't effect it being ejected. For that I would think that one of the smaller cables wasn't put in properly or the drive wasn't aligned properly when put back together. It is all just a crap shoot without seeing it first hand and especially when you are dealing with multiple issues at the same time.

The DVD drive wont turn on and im 100% sure that it is not DVD drive that is the problem because i tried replacing with 2 different 100% working DVD drives and they show same problem so its has to be the motherboard itself but i cant find the problem . What model PS3 system do you have? Does it have the driveboard on the Blu-Ray drive itself? If it does then you can't swap out the drive for another one without also swapping out the driveboard keeping your original one. And when you say "It doesn't turn on" are you saying that the drive doesn't do anything even when the system is turned on? Also, when the system is off and you try to insert a disc, does the system turn on?

  • @PowerUpGamingCanada

    Unfortunately what that means is that your Blu-Ray drive is absolutely not getting power. The driveboard for your system is integrated into the mainboard of the system. The IC's and other components for that driveboard are very close to where the cables from the drive plug into the mainboard. It could be something as simple as a burned out fuse or something as complicated as another component that has shorted out. In most of these cases the typical home user isn't able to do the repair. All the components are surface mounted which makes replacing them a bit more challenging even after you located the short of fault. At this point it may be cheaper and easier to either replace the system since they are priced to sell these days or find someone who can analyze and repair your console professionally. Sorry I don't have better news.
