PS22 Chorus "GOLD DUST" Tori Amos

With the release of the tenth Tori Amos album, Abnormally Attracted To Sin (name taken from a line from Guys & Dolls), it felt like the right time for our second Tori Amos cover this year. This time the kids tackle "Gold Dust" from the classic album, Scarlet's Walk, and take it to a whole new place. This is one of my all-time favorite Tori songs (and one of my mom's too.) The kids do it incredible justice.
And of course to lighten the mood, at the end of the video we have Justin and Josh performing a rap -- totally making fun of me. As usual..... This has to be the most embarrassing promotional segment for the PS22 Chorus Bonnie Hunt Show appearance.....

Answers: 1) no sheet music during chorus rehearsals 2) they're learning how to read off the staff in general music class 3) sometimes they don't even hear the originals, depending on what the song is 4) some are absent more than others. re: composition, i rearrange to keep the rows even & sound concentrated. 5) i do sometimes work with small groups (the chorus coaches) when starting the arrangement process, but usually what's posted is the full chorus. 6) thanks for your interest!

This one has got to be my favorite. As many others have stated before: I love the fact that these kids don't just sing traditionals but are introduced to the music of great artists like Tori Amos and Björk. How cool is that!

I absolutely agree. I think that's one of the things that makes them so incredible, besides their obvious voices. They're not just robots sitting there singing, like some children's choruses. They seem really into what they're doing. It is amazing what all of you have accomplished.

I'm a social worker working with teens who did not have a Mr. B growing up. My clients have internalized the anger and fear we have used to disenfranchise them. It's heartbreaking and sometimes overwhelms ME. Watching this video overwhelmed me but with HOPE. Bless all the Mr. B's that try to prevent hopelessness by providing a respectful and safe space for self-expression, kindness, exploration, vulnerability, celebration, art and yes, even failure. Bless PS 22!

You know what? It bugged me at first. But after watching several of the videos, I have to agree with you. Sitting in their seats seems to encourage them to lose themselves in the song. They are so much fun to watch, as well as listen to. Lucky teacher. Lucky kids. By far, some of my favorite youtube videos!!

"How did it go so Fast? You'll say as we are looking back and then we'll understand We held gold dust in our hands..." These lyrics express perfectly, what these kids are going to feel whenever they're looking back at their time in the PS22 chorus.

That was beautiful as usual :) and the kids rapping at the end was so cute lol. I wonder what you can have them cover off the new album from the songs we've heard so far, the only think you could MAYBE do is flavor if you cut out the 2nd verse. Yeah wow, out of the 10 songs we've heard from AAtS thats the only one that seems doable so far. I cant wait to see what they do next!
