Was the removal of update support done specifically to nix homebrew or was it just a cost-saving measure? I suppose it depends on if you could fit the firmware on a smaller ROM without it.

@@kolorblaind4025 I have ADHD and I agree with what original post was saying, a lot of content that is supposed to be informative is just an ADHD mess, it needs to be well laid out and easily digestible. I think you just need to grow some thick skin tbh, the world dont owe you a thing and it sure as hell won't be mindful of peeps like us so you just gotta roll with it and try to not let it bother you, tbh it never bothered me in the first place lol.

@sgsj spike I have ADHD, and comments like that perpetuate the stigma and continue to make it harder for us to get equal opportunities and reach our potential. I’m sorry you disagree with me, I respect it, and I don’t need to grow any thick skin, the comment didn’t hurt me, but I can see how it’s perpetuating the stigma. And I repeat, I’m sure he didn’t mean to offend anyone. But I think it’s important to foment the idea that ADHD is not just being a mess. There are a lot of perks that come with it. But if when people hear ADHD the first thing that comes to their minds is mess instead of neurodivergent. Then that’s something that we all as a society need to work on.

ADHD is now so common that most people have someone they're close to with ADHD so I think society understands enough and I do not see this stigma. n I'm only saying grow thick skin to help, as I said, the world don't owe us anything so when it does come to people not trying to be understanding of it we gotta be ok with that or we'll forever feel n act victimized which isn't a healthy way to live. And even then its a minority of people that will act that way towards us so its something we have to learn to live with like its no big deal, its only a big deal if you let it be and if you let stuff like that be a big deal it wont end well because it'll be draining and overwhelming. the sad truth is, the world has an infinite amount of more pressing issues than this and itll never get around to changing the stigma that a minority of people have against another minority of people. its not a great thing but its good to be realistic and move on to live with it. you cant change how people act but you can change with how you deal with things. you also cant change the people around you, but you can change the people around you if you catch my drift

This is cool Flippy, my first console was the Nintendo Switch Fortnite Edition but I like these Retro classics!

One cool thing you can do after you install FMCB is to use MC2SIO or MX4SIO (they’re essentially the same since the board design is open source iirc). The transfer speed is faster than USB so no stuttering during FMVs (usually happened with USB drives since PS2 only has USB 1.1) and it’s much simpler. The drawback is that the game’s compability is still not that great

This cut ability for the PS2 to system update via discs was the reason why Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness was initially planned to feature episodic content by way of digital downloads, it was done in order to prepare the game for further online-related updates to the PS2's firmware. However, because the PS2 was rushed for a mid-2000 release in Japan to essentially assassinate the SEGA Dreamcast, coupled with Sony changing the specs of not just their retail PS2s, but also their development kits further to prevent additional reliability problems and shitshows, it was cut.

It was never "cut" until the 9000x systems. It was only ever officially used on the original Japanese production run that shipped without a DVD Player kelf, and for the system update that supported the hard drive, but even most DECKARD slims (that removed even the solder pads for the HDD) support updates via memory card.

@@KopperNeoman Something being possible on a PS2 doesn't mean a licensed title can exploit it, it's very likely AoD would've failed cert for that. On the other hand, Ratchet & Clank 3 used a buffer overflow in the EULA to patch the online mode so who knows what Core would've gotten away with.

Soft modding runs virtually no risk of harm to your system unless you try to install it on a unsupported hardware revision( spch 9000+) so if you have a older slim model or a fat model you're good to go with no risk

For the slim ps2, a combination of FMCB and an MX4SIO is one of the best (and one of the chapest) solutions to play backups, since it eliminates the need to use the slow and buggy usb1 ports on the ps2(previously required due to the lack of HDD).

SMB is my way to go, though it's a hassle to set up. You _need_ your ethernet cable to be crossover cause the PS2 is too old to handle straight RJ45 cables, hecc. You also need a PC with a free RJ45 port so you'd need 2 if you already have a wired internet connection. Pain. But once it's set up it's a blessing

I wish I still had my old PS2. Or PS3. LOL. I’d kill for another day with ratchet and clank that wasn’t poorly streamed through PSPLUS, maybe once I get a new pc up and running I’ll mess around with some emulators. Modding hardware has always interested me and this video was a great sort of introduction to the PS Modding scene.

Man i have been on the sideline of so many little situations and things over the years. I can remember the summer between seventh and eighth grade watching my friend learn to mod his ps1 to play region locked games... He first had it to where tou had to start with a reg game and leave the disc door open so you could put in a burned or region locked game once the official game got ya past the first stage of copyright protection... His uncle was playing on local area nets before the web even existed and that dude kept us both educated on all kinds of stuff like this. I quit messing with it in HS when i got into mysic but he still tinkers. I showed him the anbernic i ordered and he showed me something much better he *built* lol.
