@@RysieQu So for me we'll get other 2/3 generations of graphics improvements and, after those, each generation will focus on the amount of things they can render at the same time. Things like the lighting are already phenomenal in our generation, I don't think it can get much better than it is now. Like yes it can improve but how much? We're probably close to the limit for graphics and already can create photorealistic scenarios with our most powerful hardware

and bro that was probably using more than 1 ps3. also if devs gave that much detail to everything in the game, it would be very laggy it would be toned down and optimized so it would run better

No it's not even possible. The tech demo showing human face here already sacrificing background details and surrounding environment polygons. They just discarded the LoD altogether just for close up shot of human face.

Fact is that, unlike the PS4 Cell wasn't an APU it was just a CPU with dedicated Nvidia Graphics and the limitations were really actually there Cell itself is literally faster than PS4's cpu

What do you mean? Final Fantasy X looked a lot of times better than the FFVIII tech demo for ps2, that game graphics were another level!! The ps1 tech demo looked very accurate for its time and the ps5 demo looks a lot like the games I have played in that system. Not defending Sony like some mindless cunt, but ps2 had very impressive graphics for its time.

Not really, they can be matched by the best graphics game on that console, which may take some time to arrive. The matrix demo was running on ps5 native remember ?

To be fair Crash Bandicoot was more impressive than the T Rex and Batoidea and Jak And Daxter could pass as a tech demo on its own right, the trailers make that clear from the beginning.

Dino and Manta my favorite that music was awesome. I never forget.

The cool part is, the PS4 demo didn't at all do the actual console justice. That console generation ended up really surpassing my expectations by the end, same with the PS3 with games like The Last of Us.

This was all really mind blowing.

Yeah but it was rendered in real time on the ps2. If you watch the original cgi in the game its much shorter.

Tech demos are one generation ahead of actual capability of the consoles. PS1 tech demo = PS2 games graphics and PS2 tech demo = PS3 games graphics and so on

The T Rex is far from PS2 graphics lol. Even early PS2 games had more polygons than the dinosaur. The jump of PS1 to PS2 was massive, like almost 200 times.

The UE4 tech demo looks weak. The particles are nice, the lighting on the ice too I guess, everything else looked late PS3

Then you have a RTX 4090.

Am I the only one not impressed by the latest 'evolution' at all? Aside from the lighting techniques, there's nothing to be excited about, all still looks mediocre and bland. Don't get me wrong, these companies hire incredible skill, but 1994 compared to 2024 is a slow clap for me. We couldve had 10x the quality if the market stopped accepting mediocre BS.
