Isn't this a wonderful time of year when the garden starts to slowly wake up, but the cutting back and discovering all the new growth points make for such a satisfying feeling with a clean bed!? I love it and miss my garden so much ❤

Just when I thought I might get away with a little pregarden clean up, we got hit in Minnesota! So much snow! Unseasonably warm and snow free for most of this year. Now it looks more like I'm used to, but boy am I missing the hint of spring!! Soon!! You inspired my munstead lavender hedge outside of my garden. Started from seed and has survived 3 polar vortex cold winters. I cut all the way back every spring. I planted over landscape tarp, 2-3inches of pea rock, black dirt, to a mound and converted with more tarp, cut an x, planted 2nd year in the row and covered with river rock. We planted about 18" apart so they're pretty tight, but they're beautiful and so healthy! Everyone thinks I'm great at gardening because of my lavender! I'm really not! I just send them to your channel! 😂 thank you for the wonderful content, Laura. Truly, our whole family loves your work and we learn so much. Thank you! Happy gardening!

(question below) I've decided to start commenting after watching for years. It's SO helpful for me to watch because I am quite close to your location but I find we are about 2 weeks behind you zone 5b. So I always get a 2week-month notice when it's time to: prune my lavender! Lol I was inspired to plant a lavender hedge myself a few years back. However last winter they all died :( it was the variety Grosso Lavender. We had a cold snap in spring and I think that's what did it. There was 20 of them! All gone. Now I've gone with Salvia, Echinacea and Cats Pajamas Nepata. Its amazing now and I love it even more. Please don't feel like your repetitive videos on gardening are not wanted. Personally for me it's extremely satisfying. I had a baby 7 months ago and a rough pregnancy. So I wasn't able to garden last year at all. And this year with a 7 month old you can imagine also that I probably won't have much time either. So to see you get to it and tackling mundane gardening projects is just sooooo satisfying!!!! I especially enjoy watching your recap videos. It makes me feel a part of your conversations. Like we are all just sipping tea and chatting together. I love listening to you and Aaron talk about stuff hahaha We are heading on vacation this weekend and traveling your direction. I looked up Andrew seeds to see if we could visit it. Unfortunately it's still too far away. Too bad. We live in Creston BC Canada. Which is 15 minutes from the Idaho border. It's too bad I can never participate in the giveaways but I understand. Question: Do you ever have "one of those days" when you don't enjoy your workday (setting up cameras and narrating your every move)? Because if you do, I cannot tell! You are delightful to watch every time and have a level of excitement that is contagious! Thank you for being such a blessing to everyone ❤ (and pushing through if it's hard). People say you are so amazing in the garden. Which is true. But I just want to point out that you are just as excellent a presenter/vlogger. Quality tv! Well done!

Thank-you for the lavender pruning tips. The woody stems do get rather big and knarled over time. I removed a lavender that had encroached on one of my roses. I have to say though that even the dead growth smells amazing. Had to laugh about getting one load done and that feeling of accomplishment! Same here on smaller scale. Sometimes I'll pop dinner in the oven and the goal is to pull a couple of 5 gallon buckets of weeds.

I was surprised to see the rose prunings and leaves mixed with the lavender debris - I separate rose debris (including leaves with black spot etc) from ‘compostable’ clippings….. do you sterilise your secateurs between each rose, so as not to transfer bacteria, viruses and other diseases?

We HAD some really nice weather and I was tempted to go out and do yard work. Today I woke up and there was snow on the ground. I’m glad I waited to start my garden clean up because you NEVER know what the weather is going to be like in my area, I don’t think that we’re going to get sub zero weather anymore this year but you never know. I think leaving the dead foliage helps protect my plants from the extreme weather shifts we have here. I’m just hoping that I can keep the crepe myrtle they JUST sent me alive until I can plant it in the ground this spring. They say this one is hardy to zone 6 which I’m in BUT with it being in a container and not in the ground I’m a little bit worried about it. ❄️🫠💚🙃

The pots by the vegetable garden in the video look back were so beautiful! Got my felco gloves as a Christmas gift from your website. They are the best heavy duty gloves I’ve ever used! I have lots of cacti and long thorns on my citrus trees that always get me but not with these gloves! Thank you so much for the recommendation and for making them available on your website. Loving all the things you all are adding to the store❤

And now today I will go cut back my lavender (phenomenal). Sadly, I did not cut it back in its first year as it did not bloom and I received advice to leave it be, now I have thick woody bases that are very misshaped. I’m going to be heartless and try to reshape as I prune, and see what happens! I’d much prefer to plant Sweet Romance, but apparently it won’t do well in our clay soil, so Phenomenal it is! Have a wonderful day Laura and crew, enjoy your warmer temps and beautiful weather! ❤

I love watching you clean up….it’s so satisfying! What do you do with the debris you dump on the “dirt lands?” Burn it?

I love lavender and have to admit it's one of the few plants I have garden envy over in my zone 3.

My lavender went woody, just forgot to prune it and that was that, I kept it maybe for 2 yrs and said so long. Seeing Samantha running reminding me of yrs ago, I went to see the Grans and the youngest was 4 -5. He had gotten new tennis shoes, ran down the hall and back then told me..."mom said I was so fast, she seen smoke under my feet", he was over the moon 😊

I believe it’s called a shrub rake. They’re very easy to find and so handy.
