Proven Mock Scrape Setup Tips For Big Bucks

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Proven mock scrape setups and setup tips are few and far between. Why? because most are completely unnatural! While many mock scrapes rely on gadgets, potions, gels and many other man made materials just to sell you the next fad, this mock scrape system delivers from decades of proven practices - and they are all natural! In my experience nothing beats a mock scrape for big bucks that uses natural materials and scent from the local deer herd and habitat. After creating mock scrapes for nearly 2 decades and analyzing thousands of mock scrapes on hundreds of my client lands in over 2 dozen states, this is the best mock scrape setup recipe that I have come up with. If you want to take your mock scrape deer hunting efforts to the next level this Fall, these are likely the most proven mock scrape setup tips that you can find.

I have never had luck with mock scrapes. I used your advice on putting them in heavy traffic areas. Used a grape vine in that 3/4 to 1" diameter range. Watched my scent while making them, just never had luck with them

Been watching your channel for a while now. I am in Northwest NC. Finally got around to trying this. So far I am impressed, deer are stopping and using it, rubbing it, cleaning the scrape out and very curious. I will continue to monitor, but this gets the deers attention! Thanks for the great content!

jeff, i just recently set up a mock scrape with a vine licking branch on our farm. I placed it where a heavily used trail that runs parallel to an ag field and another trail that runs out to the ag field. I placed a camera on it and have gotten my first buck hitting it. Thanks for all of the info and content that you put out there.

I've been using mock scrapes for over 15 years. I've had mixed luck harvesting, but they seem to visit them without fail (often at night). Your video breaks down what I've been doing right and wrong. A little late to change it up this season, but I look forward to next year and trying some new things that you've shown.

Per your suggestions, I've used mock scrapes for two seasons now. I have two on my property and they both get visited fairly regularly. And it doesn't take any time at all to freshen them if I think they need it. The thing that has surprised me this year is the number of fawns that are interested in them. Thanks again for your advice on this topic.

Great advice! I think these are a way to create a pleasant and enjoyable habitat for deer. I am planning on putting one by every tree stand i have! I think a great combo is corn feader, protein block, salt lick. and licking branch. Another great combo is watering hole with a licking branch. I think any time you setup something for the deer there should be one there.

Another classic Talk with Jeff S. I appreciate another lesson about deer hunting tactic I was scouting last week in Middle Michigan in a swamp area and the 2 other guy's that were with me decided to cheat and throw down a Mineral block down after I told him it's against the law they pasted here in lower Michigan but since my friends are idols there is nothing I can do , There is but I won't go there. So I decided not to hunt around them people who take chances in life always catches up to them , But Jeff I appreciate and another lesson about Deer tactics.

My deer density kinda sucks lol, so I use a natural deer gland on my vines. We may disagree on the need for it or not, but not on how well these work! Year round! I also refresh when I check cameras. Why? I want the deer saying "WHO is this guy?". If I told you how many people look at me like I am nuts when I say "I just made a mock scrape and hung a camera on it." in February or March... Fine by me, let them think that. Anybody who asks me "Really? Now? Does it work", I will show them the pictures. I cannot thank you enough for sharing these and all the other valuable videos (and books) that you do!

I’ve been making mock scrapes since the ‘80’s. I’ve learned many things throughout the years. Many people say human urine scares away the deer and they don’t believe me until I show them the videos of me actually peeing in the scrape I made. My point is, your video and explanation of mock scrapes are spot on. Keep ‘em comin’, eh.

I hadn't however used a mock vine and when I saw this idea on one of your videos it just made great perfect sense and added one in most of our sets . I put them out in early spring. We are working on the scrapes, and have a couple done and will complete the others next week. Thanks a lot Bob! I personally do not recommend the clover...I actually seed a WI road mix and maybe a little clover mix just to hold the soil around waterholes...but you don't need any food around those areas for sure. You want them to hit water quickly, hit a mock scrape and move on quickly. Hope that makes sense?

If these vines are already hanging near a good scrape tree can I just start a scrape right there where it is naturally growing? I use American elm trees for coy scrape trees. Why is the vine better ? I have fawns, does and bucks using them. I just cut them down and dig a hole within bow range and stick the tree trunk in the hole as if I were planting it almost. And replace every August.

I have 8 acres I hunt in western ny. The property was logged of ash this year and I noticed more buck movement there the season during the rut. It is adjacent to an old Apple orchards. The trees are old and not producing apples, but is over grown and lots of bedding there I’m sure. I can’t hunt the orchard. Anyways I made three mock scrapes on the 8 acres where deer move through, they are about 50 yards apart and form a triangle. Do I have to many in the area?

Lots of good info gonna be going up soon to the property will be setting up two mock scrapes on one of the travel corridors you outlined for us the waterholes will be in line as well can’t wait to see what pics come thru speaking of pics had a nice size black bear come right thru the campsite about 4 am last night cool but kinda creepy knowing these guys are roaming lot different than observing deer in the woods

In many of your videos you mention bedding areas. How do you locate them? My whole life I find bedding evidence right in the fields where the deer feed. Most of these are nocturnal bedding areas. I am not sure where they bed down during the day.

I put one of these mock scrapes out 5 days ago with a camera and checked my camera today. The first evening I had a nice 8 point hit it. The second evening a black bear hit it. Is this something I need to worry about? Will the bear scent on that mock scrape drive the deer away in the long run? Should I replace it, find a new location all together or will it have no efffect?

What do you recommend to use if you don't have a stick/vine that has deer sent on it? In this video you talk about using one that already has a scent, which I totally agree with. Thx for posting this video, it was very helpful

I never use one that already has scent unless I take one down from another spot. That is very rare tho. Almost all begin with an unscented branch or vine.

Here in Maine you can't put out any food bait after June 1st, so Mock scrapes are about all we can do after that date. Is there a particular time of the year thats best to put them out like close to deer season when the rut is starting ? Great videos. God Bless and Good Hunting. Maine North Woods Hunter

I feel that, In VA you cant bait any time of the year, can be hard to get a centralized location to hang cameras, water holes in dry areas and mock scrapes are pretty much a requirement to get consistent travel
