I did karate upstairs in the gym and played for The Peacock football team. They have done so much for the local youth and i really appreciate what they do.

Lovely film, people shouldn't underestimate the value of what that gym was to the local community and further afield. I remember once talking to a lad about getting a book out from the library. He told me he couldn't because the library was on the wrong side of the road and he was worried about getting stabbed , yet he walked everday to the gym because he felt safe there. Another bunch of lads who all hated school and never went, all turned up on time everyday,. When i asked them why, whats the difference, they said they felt wanted. If you ask what the peacock was/is, it was a bastion against adversity, being born in a part of town that never got a fair chance, shouldn't never mean you dont count.

I learnt everything I know from here, I've been a member since 95 when I was young, one of the longest active members. Saw all the champs come in to train there, sad that it's been closed down. Always gonna be a part of me.

@@boxing If a picture is worth a 1,000 words how much is a video? Stories about working class people coming together for a unified purpose regardless of color, disability, religion etc. gives me hope... until I get on twitter [insert emoji here].
