When i played the first prototype, i remember Alex being the most powerful individual i ever played eyes on. He survived a nuclear blast and regenerated from a small blood cell. For him to be killed this way just doesn't make sense.

I hope you know that Alex didn't die. He was going easy on Heller and didn't die but he did let him win. Though he was fighting him he was intentionally fighting him to see if he's worthy enough and by standards, Alex would've consumed Heller if he didn't put a decent fight. We know that Alex traveled around the world and etc, spreading his "virus" WHICH in terms is part of him, we learned that even a clump of cell or a single blood cell is enough to COMPLETELY regenerate him, in this terms. even if his entire cells was decimated in that area, he still has his virus around the world to "respawn." Imagine him as a broken GOD/Immortal, homie literally can't ever die unless you explode the entire universe (not even earth) hundreds of folds to make sure there's 0 cells left. Alex made Heller and Alex can take Heller away, just an FYI.

Here's my my theory. Mercer gets stronger with every person he consumes, right? He absorbs their strength, their power. That's what he did with the hunters and Elizabeth Greene in the first game. In the beginning of this game, he sees James Hellers strength as a human, and Mercer infects him with the virus, letting him become stronger. He becomes even stronger than Mercer, but they're still both just the virus. Mercer isn't really Mercer, he's just the embodiment of the Mercer virus which has been terrorizing the city and infecting everyone in sight. Heller now also has the virus in him, which he won't be able to control forever. Mercer let himself become consumed by Heller to further integrate their strengths into one virus. I have a feeling that if there were ever going to be a third game, Heller would be seen struggling with his sanity and control over his powers, until Mercer eventually grew out of Heller, obtaining the strength that he originally had and Heller's new full potential.

The last scene when Heller consumed all the virus in the city was awesome

What i REALLY liked about this game was the free roam and attacking the army base ( I also remember something with controlling the army tanks or something like that)

It's like Alex is fighting Spawn

This game had a unique atmosphere and cinematography was on point .

Mercer said that the people that he had consumed haunted him, he could still hear their screams, etc. After Heller absorbed Mercer, Mercer definitely became part of Heller now, but considering what Mercer can do, Heller is now also a part of Mercer. Mercer is the main embodiment of the virus and Heller gathers the virus inside of him by consuming people. Since Heller didn't die when he got infected and Mercer is a walking corpse of the virus, there's a really big chance for Mercer to be able to get out of Heller the more he consumes infected, because the Mercer pretty much is the virus while Heller is just considered a part of it. It's like a glass of water; Heller being the glass and Mercer/virus being the water which will pour out the more is added.

Thing is though, like Mercer mentioned, is that Heller has very resistant DNA, meaning that while Heller can be infected, it isn't able to take full control of him. If Mercer was able to absorb Heller, or create a new strain that's strong enough to alter even resistant DNA strands, then Mercer's plan would come to fruition. However, Heller was able to overpower and consume Mercer, since Mercer was never able to just consume Heller, even at the start.

I just played the 1st Game and cause I played the 2nd game first I always wondered and thought what made Alex Mercer Evil in the 2nd game, then it hit me after I played the 1st game. Alex Mercer was a being that became different when he first got the virus in him, making him different than others, yet he forgot who he was. Eventually he used his powers to consume all who knew about him and tried to stop both Blackwatch and the infected at the same time. Yet the more he searched and the more he consumed, the more he changed..... He met many disturbing people like Elizabeth Greene, Mc Gullen, and Captain Cross. Though he intended to save the city from the infected and from being destroyed by the Military, he lost more of his identity and his humanity the more he consumed and the more he doubt himself and humanity. The way he said to himself " Alex Mercer was my name, he was a part of me.... Now I'm something much more...." Therefore I guess he eventually became one with the virus and had intentions like how Greene did. Heller on the other hand, though Alex infected him to gain an ally and use him, Heller had a stronger reason to keep his humanity and a bigger goal to stop Mercer. The Difference between them is that Mercer became one with his powers and lost his will and soul of his humanity and gave up on everyone else. Heller, though wanted revenge like how Alex did once, had found out that his last remaining family was Alive, and that alone gave him the strength to use his new powers to stop Mercer, kill every infected, stop Blackwatch, and even in the end, save Dana and his daughter Maya. Now the only question left is..... is Mercer really dead??? Cause since Heller consumed him, he has all of Mercer's memories in him now......

It is explained that after the first Prototype, Alex traveled the world trying to find good people who cared for each other. But all he saw wherever he went were selfish scum who only cared about themselves. It wasn't until someone he thought was different, turned out to be no different than the other selfish humans he'd encountered, that he decided that humans were worthless. He lost all faith and respect for humans and decided that he should rebuild civilization with the mutations that he had.

Guessing Alex is gonna be a voice in James's head to which he continuously talks to.

Alex Mercer in this game kind of reminds me of the player when they get all the upgrades. Destroying nearly everything they can and liking to use an army, either helping the virus or blackwatch (in the first game) in this case he’s helping the virus.

Haven't seen this for ages. I remember doing this mission this was one of my favourite missions

they didnt even bother getting mercer to transition form an intelligent, subliminally aggressive scientist to an ignorant, deluded idiot. At the end of Prototype, Alex said that he became something more than human, but also something less, showing that he is sophisticated enough to contemplate his actions in a self-critical way. Of course he is frequently lead by his boiling lust for revenge, but that does not transition into him being an idiotic sect leader. I like that they tried to do something different by making alex the villain. But making it different does not equal making it better. They did a shitty, unconvincing job with Alex. Would've been better if they didnt try to fix what wasnt broken and instead had improved upon what story and character development they had from the first game.

Heller cosumed 20-30 evolved, consumed the goliath and juggernaughts and even has mutations and lvls up which alex DOES NOT DO and heller is human, he has will and adrenaline which he could boost his growth in some way having said this alex is NOT HUMAN he is a it, a virus that thinks its human. people say that mercer is still within heller going to consume him one day thats unplausable since heller has ressistant DNA which mercer cannot absorb as shown in the late middle stages in the game plus after heller killed mercer his arms got chopped off, heller at the end consumed EVERY LIVING INFECTED, possibly those arms as well. Just a reminder that Alex do trashtalk a lot in the first game too, or at least lose his temper. Here he is acting all cool, calm and reasonable.

Best part about this fight is the amazing soundtrack going on in the back.

Mercer wasn't even using his best powers and he consumed his other posse members. I think the only reason why Heller did stand a chance was that his blacklight virus strain was an improved version that when combined with his unique DNA made him an equal. Still, Mercer was holding back. I wish there was a third phase where Alex went full armor mode and Heller had to break the armor with Hammer Hands.

If this was really Alex he'd be jumping and spammin the whip distant attack

Depends on how well they intergrate this idea in the game,They could have heller slowly losing his mind due to mercer fucking with him then a character switch mid game.

There's one thing i just realised. Alex didn't only absorb the others so he can amp himself up bit it actually made it way more easier for Heller to win and yes i do think he was indeed holding back.

Heller was just consume the virus and now it work deep inside his system like some kinda parasite,waiting for the day it can takeover or breakout. Also worth to note that Alex seem very interested in Heller and Maya's so called "resillent DNA",that is also the reason why Alex can't consume Heller earlier in the game. Maybe he let himself get consume so he can achieve that DNA,from the inside and when he got it,he will be unstoppable.

Alex: Impressive, I thought you Well... Heller: You didn't teach me... Player: Oh my God... (That Line wasn't meant for Heller, it's for the Player when he first Controlled Alex in the First Game. He broke the 4th Wall.)

Greene maybe thought Mercer could join her later or could grown strong so she could consume him (Never saw she doing it though) but Mercer is just commiting suicide here.

So the Badass Alex Mercer survives Nuclear Blast, a big monster like Elizabeth Greene but he dies at the hands of James Heller?!?! That's what disappointed me! Actvision shouldn't have given victory and sympathy to the James just because his Daughter was kidnapped, strong one should survive here

Berkant Ari I know but I only said that I'm disappointed, I think they should make Prototype 3 with full detailed CGI characters, big maps and longer plot but with such qualities it may take longer to come.

+Berkant Ari you're right man ,in the first game alex survived in a nuclear blast by consuming a crow with is destroyed body. so heller consumed alex but alex's arms are there, alex can do that, WE WANT PROTOTYPE 3

Love the trash talking between Heller and Mercer during this final boss fight.

The cutscenes are SO GOOD

Guys u keep saying he died so easy. Just remember James was super mad that he wouldn’t give him his daughter. And the virus was still going on when Mercer said he was ending it.

First thing first,Alex Mercer has an armor which can be used from the first fight till end, 2th i assume that most of you defeat the bos at prototype 1 with throwing thing,and 3th the most important ,alex has 3 different devastour attack type tendril,graveyard spike or something and the one that he use to clear all the way in front of him ,that could kill Heller at 1st fight

I feel like Alex let James win (don't get me wrong I love James, I played prototype 2 first since I couldn't find a copy of the first) so he can prove a point, in order to convince him that his stand was right, by letting James take a feel on his memories. Another thing, we all know that Alex couldn't consume James because of that unique dna-bullshit. It may be possible that he let James consume him so that he can slowly take over from the inside. Remember that a single cell of his is enough for him to regenerate and be all-powerful again. Well, James Heller consumed the whole of Alex Mercer. I could be wrong, but this is plausible. Guess we'll have to wait for prototype 3 coming this year (presumably).

"what do we do now?" who knows. and we will never know

“Welcome to the top of the food chain” 12 years later I still catch myself thinking about Alex saying that it’s like he knew he was too far gone he couldn’t have ended himself even if he wanted to he was too powerful and instead of fighting it he basically let evolution take its course if heller didn’t kill him alex would have led to the extinction of humans and the virus would corrupt the world similar to the flood

Mercer, the good guy from prototype 1 who everybody loved, a poor excuse to make him a villain, and limited his full power. Heller, a nobody no one likes, bad character whose always mad,. Radical, a bad company, let one idea ruin everything, destroyed their own profit, didnt let you have an alternate ending, doesnt care about their fans, ruins their first character's fanclub, makes mercer evil for an absolutely stupid reason, destroys mercer's full potential, lets him be taken by his own power.

***** Nope, it's because fans were hoping to play as Mercer again. But instead radical done the most wicked thing to their fanbase. Like saying fuck you to them. They want you to KILL him with a character nobody even knows, and gives a poor reason to make him evil. That costed them heavily in the end and they lost everything. Proves to show that one bad idea can ruin everything. If you didnt have to kill mercer radical probably would still be here.

+Auri El Heller won because unlike mercer he used anger and hate to get stronger and to push himself to limits Alex could not reach. Also Heller is a prototype, and I'm not sure if this is a saying but the prototypes are always stronger. Mercer also lost control over his humanity and Heller evolved through out the story like mercer did in the first one. So basically Mercer reached his ending point in evolution so did Heller but he was just powered by hate and anger

How to make a excuse to make Alex mercer weak: Make him not use full power (He never used his claws, armor, shield, muscle mass, and his devastators)

A game that is over a decade old it still looks so good bruh i really wish we would get another gamei imagined it would be like this if it happened it's the playstation showcase or whatever event title screens comes up a forgotten franchise has been reborn we hear a voice my name is alex mercer they call me a vigil auntie terrorist a monster i didn't want to be these things i tried to be a hero then he falls down a tall building like how kratos did in god of war 1 as he is falling down he is looking at his reflection from the windows hearing all of the voices from the people he loved as he is falling down further all of the voices turn into negative thoughts as he hits the ground he doesn't get up surrounded by infected all kinds of creatures then has the camera zooms in on his face he gets angrier and angrier then he unleashes his wrath on everything

I can give an actual reason, James heller was stated multiple times to be a different mutated variant than that of usual prototypes in that he ended up being close to resembling Alex right. Do research and listen in game they say James Heller he has exeptional unique DNA, we simply have to accept that James mutated variant is stronger and more powerful, think like broly from dragon ball, a mutated saiyan. And heller had his human willpower to keep him going, Alex is just a shell.

Why can’t there be an ending where if you don’t betray alex he won’t kill you?

I kind of feel like that the infection works sort of like venom symbiote where the offspring is going to be stronger because I'm pretty sure we all played part one and we can all agree that there shouldn't have been any way Heller could've won but like I said I feel like the offspring must be stronger because and that would make sense because at some point in the game Alex literally couldn't consume james

Ain't no way in hell Alex taking a w, Heller was able to outrun a goliath, beat one of those weird ass creatures that takes the prototype claws to beat, with a combat knife, was able to sneak up behind Alex and slit his throat, stab him while Alex was trying to lowkey hit him, and stab Alex's arms while being choked out..... AS A HUMAN

Mercer is acting as someone superior (teacher) and even says "I taught you well" and Heller replied "You didn't teach me shit", Heller is right, he didn't teach him anything besides consuming someone for their memories, Heller even says "Now I know you're just trying to make me mad" meaning that all of that could just be a way of provocation. As much as people want to believe Mercer had a bigger plan by letting Heller consume him, he might've just done all of that to simply piss Heller off and throw him off balance in order to kill him. On top of that his boss quotes could be interpreted as guidelines for the player on how to win this fight, there are no text tips only verbal tips. Until Prototype 3 (if it ever comes out) we will never know and even then it depends in what direction they are gonna take the new game, It's not gonna be same thought process that Radnet had in 2012 so we might never know.

Satisfying

I like the idea of a good 'fall from grace' kinda story like mercer did. Good guy gone bad, but the way they did it just sucked. Hellers character was so bland and boring, and Mercer should have had more development in becoming a bad guy. I still have hopes for a sequel of some sorts that will bring Mercer back too give him a good redemption story.
