Protesters Spray American Tourists With Water Guns in Spain
Tourists abandoned their tables as protesters squirted them with water guns in Spain. It happened in Barcelona which is a hugely popular tourist destination. It's just the latest reaction to the phenomenon of overtourism. The number of Americans heading to Europe this year is up 34% compared to last year. Barcelona, which has a population of 1.7 million, had more than 12 million visitors last year, many of them from the U.S. Inside Edition's Les Trent has more.

I’m coming to Madrid at the end of August, I’ve been a few times and concur the centre is gorgeous and I love it (totally different atmosphere to Barcelona which increasingly feels edgy and unsafe). Also, although Madrid can be scorching hot by day, humidity is always very low compared to the sweatbox Barcelona is in August.

@@TylenOneal239only really New Orleans, New York has been improving for the last several years and California isn’t that bad crime was outside of San Diego and a few parts of LA. At the other point though the Californian economy is roughly on par with the German economy, so if the richest country in Europe matches the richest state in America economy wise I think that says something, and not like California makes most of our money, the texan economy is also very good, with it being slightly better than the Canadian economy, so keep coping.

I saw on another channel that they were tired of all the houses being bought up and used for Air BNB’s, making it nearly impossible to find reasonable housing for themselves. Not sure how true that is.

@@marieneu264if they act like that I will go dramatically into the other direction. no jobs, less money & local people will leave as well. classic "smart" people that don't think what their movement even does, sure if it's a problem u can demonstrate but idk if it's ok to "attack" tourist, bet they also leave their country and visit other ones, should get treated the same way then.. they just won't learn. Mallorca (seems to be a Spain tradition to hate everyone that wanna visit it) had some similar problems after all the regulations kicked it. some businesses closed, locals left cuz they didn't had enough jobs & it pretty much struggled. still somewhat stable, but if they kick every tourist out with aggression it will be poor within couple of years.

If Americans did this to tourists, we would be ripped apart in the news. Well, when their economy goes down because of people not going, they may change their mind. When France denied America the right to fly over their air space after 9/11, The Louvre was reported as EMPTY. There were no tourists in many parts of France for quite a while.

Utter rubbish (And I am a lecture guide ) The Louvre is unfortunately never empty and has never been and if France is the most visited country in the world,its economy does not rest on tourism ,the first nationality visiting France being the French themselves,followed by other Europeans,then Asians---As for "denying America",I guess you speak of the USA ,not of the continent and what is this made up story about 8/11 ??????,For days after the terrorist attack,flights were cancelled all over the world ,including the USA

I traveled to Vietnam and Malaysia and I found the people there so sweet and welcoming and it's BEAUTIFUL! Definitely recommend south east Asia!

I am european but live in north america. went to barcelona last year and found people very rude and unwilling to help or acknowledge you even if it was their job. also saw stuff like "tourists you kill the neighbourhood" and really saw this coming. Wont be going back to spain.

I hated Barcelona too. Glad it’s not just me! We visited Valencia too and it was completely delightful, so it’s not all of Spain, or even southern Spain.
Ridiculous! If they act like that to American tourists- we need to stop going there. Eventually, they will miss our American money!!

come to Greece or Turkey. Turkey is heaven for tourists so many historical things to see and lovely resorts and natural beauty and they treat tourists like kings (Bodrum Kemer Fethiye Marmaris Datca) ( not to live tho)

Turkey is not perfect either. It has far right nationalists and religious extremists. Turkey also persecute Kurds and Turkey committed genocide on Kurds.

I recently just got back from Barcelona I didn’t think it was all that great. We didn’t encounter this but in general I find Europeans rude. Only the hotel and serving staff nice. I won’t be going back.

That was my experience in Europe too. Even off the beaten path, away from tourist traps, Europeans were just...unpleasant? It's a depressing continent in my experience.
It’s hilarious hearing Spaniards complain about people coming to their home where outsiders “don’t belong”. Sounds so familiar.
That is quite a contrast to the wonderful 3 weeks I spent in Poland 2 years ago. Their people were so kind and welcoming.
