Good tips. I’m currently in the process of growing boysenberries in my backyard, I planted three bushes, and I have a fence that’s blocking the the entrance from my dogs because they dig, and now these are some useful tips for me to eventually later on protect them from the birds. What is EMT piping and where can I get some? Also, my Arapaho thornless blackberries are heavy producers, but the birds.... Can I shorten the producing canes in the Spring before they show fruit and will this keep the canes inside the netting and producing heavily? Some of the new canes for next year are 8 ft tall now. August 6, 2020. Should I prune them now? Thank you for a very good video.

Hey Christine! EMT piping is the metal conduit electricians use for running electrical lines in buildings. You can find them in the electrical section at Home Depot or Lowes. As for your pruning, we tend to keep pruning to a minimum during the growing season and prefer to prune for size control in the winter when the vines are dormant (or mostly so for us here in AZ). As as long as you're seeing strong growth you can probably get away with it at any time, but it's safer to wait for winter.

Hey Mary. We do sharpen them from time to time as they get dull after pruning multiple trees. I'll leave a link for the sharpener that I use. For cleaning, we use rubbing alcohol. Ideally you should use the rubbing alcohol when going from one tree to another. This is just in case there's disease in a tree that you can't physically see, so you don't pass it to another tree. I don’t have a blackberry bush. (Wish I did). I’ll be building a wire cage around my pineapple plants so the strong raccoons don’t eat them. Great helpful video

Sir, I gratefully acknowledge your reply on potential of three apple varieties i.e Anna, Dorsett Golden, a best pollinizer for Anna, said to have originated from Israel and grafted plants might be easily available in India in horticultural institutions . However, tropic sweet as you have mentioned may not easily be available. There are many growers in temperate regions of H. P. Shimla which a major apple growing Distt. like J&K also in India are raising apple plants both on crab apple seedlings or commercial cultivars, but whether plant may be available true to type, seems a gamble. But still I first think it worthwhile to stick a set of only half a dozen of plants for through replication before going ahead. Jujube is not a fruit of my choice. Thanks a lot Sur. However if you could suggest suitable clonal rootstocks where training and supporting etc. is not involved shall be solicited.

Edge of Nowhere Farm They harvested my pineapples last year. After watching my security cameras. This year my peach tree was harvested by birds😩 So I’m learning the hard way😂

@@tammier7508 It's a challenge for sure. We're trying to find a balance between sharing with nature and keeping enough for ourselves all the time, but it's still really frustrating to lose your entire harvest to wildlife!!

Sir, a wonderful and very useful informative video on blackberry, though not much popular and fruit of promise elsewhere. However I shall wholeheartedly welcome information the apple varieties of promise and commercial viability for subtropical climates of India having winter chill hours in the range of 250-300 or so being grown in hot regions of US. The summer temperature hovers around 38 degrees Celcius. I had to suffer worst having grown nearly 180 plants of Kiwi, as the climatic conditions didn't favour. Hey Vijay. I was thinking of you the other day when we were walking the property. Have you considered growing Jujube fruit? We had a variety that was an Indian variety (Giant Thornless) and they're very similar to apples. The other varieties we talked about before (Anna, Golden Dorsett and Tropic Sweet) would still be your best bet I believe.

What fittings are you using to connect the vertical to the horizontal pipes?

Hey Keith. Bees easily fit through the 1/2" netting for pollination, so no worries there. If you're using mosquito netting that could cause problems.

2 layers on same side why not both directions.

I got lot of squirrels and birds on my small backyard!!!! I don’t want to hurting them I let squirrels &birds harvest some fruit trees/blackberries (natures you know) this I will try to the same as your👍✌️

I hear you there. We wind up feeding a LOT of birds around the farm, so we try to keep as much of the fruit as we can to ourselves and let them have what they can get to.
