    Just console into the switch and type "vlan x" then go to the switchport and type switchport access vlan x and you're done. I don't own this box but that's generally how switches work (cisco, adtran, etc)

    Please consider making a video showing how one takes a NVR with a camera and say a doorbell and a UniFi switch to create a best practice configuration with camera/doorbell/NVR VLAN isolation and firewall rules (say on a UDM-Pro) to isolate the camera network while being able to access the NVR camera recordings AND interact with the doorbell. Your point about not allowing someone who manages to gain physical access to a Ethernet plug for a camera/doorbell is an excellent one. Please consider making a video to show the VLAN / firewall rules setup for such a best practice system.

    Glad you made the point on putting the Protect system on a dedicated VLAN. That's something you can't / shouldn't really do on a UDM-Pro serving as an NVR (unless you want the associated headaches down the road), so this is a key differentiator for the UNVR.

    @@travisharper8268 Have fun. You probably can get it to work. For a while. Then something will come along from UI that breaks it. I still put the UNVR's on dedicated VLAN's on some projects, but the new UP-Sense Bluetooth accessory is an example of something that doesn't completely work right if the AP that it connects to is on a separate VLAN from Protect.

    Awesome video Chris, I actually just ordered one of these and am waiting for it to arrive. I'm happy they finally support RAID 10. At 14:15, what you're describing is RAID 0+1 (mirror of stripes), while RAID 10 is a stripe of mirrors. Really makes no difference when it comes to four drives however. There's gotta be that one guy in the comments splitting hairs, eh?

    @@matthewonciul3803 if you mirror the stripes and lose a disk, then you’ve broken the disk with the stripe, and then you’ve also broken the mirror across the stripes. Conversely, if you stripe the mirrors and lose a disk, you retain the stripe across both mirror devices, even though one of them is in reduced redundancy mode. I’ve done it both ways, and RAID 0+1 is just a big bag of hurt. RAID 10 has its own problems, but it’s not as bad.

If I already have Protect running on UDM Pro with a handful of cameras, and I just bought a UNVR, is there a clean migration path UNVR? Or do I have to start over? I don’t care about preserving saved video, mainly settings / users etc… 2. If I start with let us say 3 3TB drives, can I swap in larger capacity drives in the future as the drives die off? Or do I have to rebuild the whole storage array?

Do you know if there a setting that would allow me to have the camera to record full time or could I adjust the "start recording" and "stop recording" such that I make the motion just 1 sec and then record a lot BEFORE the motion and a lot AFTER the motion -- hoping that it would have enough motion to record for an hour straight. 27:25 The "image quality" effects the bitrate you can check the actual bitrate in the about section of the camera. I had the g4 Pro and at 100% image quality it uses a 16mbit stream, I reduced this to 34% which makes the stream 6mbit. I then reduce the framerate to 6fps so the quality is almost identical. This not only helps storage capacity but the speed of scrubbing through the timeline. My settings allows the scrubbing to take 2 or 3 seconds instead of 10+ seconds that I was getting with the defaults. it'll also help 4k streaming over the internet. The 720p preview was unaffected by the reduced framerate.

    Does the unvr provide the protect app. Could you use it with UniFi cameras with out any of the network gear from them. For instance if a small company has a network and switches all setup not UniFi and just wants a camera system would they only need the UNVR and cameras.

    No - you can only use the HDD's on board the UNVR itself. You could have cameras attached to both the UDMP and UNVR on the same network...but why?

    Trying to figure out how you intermingle Protect and Access, with the cloud key you see both cameras but with this NVR its like you only see Protect and you can't activate a Camera when door bell rings.

    We have been thinking about upgrading to unifi protect. On our current system one of the exterior cameras is by a night light so it records non stop all night long due to insects flying. Is there a way in protect not to pick up on the insects or at least not as often?

    Future video suggestion: You briefly mentioned setting up your cameras on a separate subnet or VLAN to isolate them from the rest of your network so somebody couldn't knock down your camera and Jack in.... I previously attempted to do this with the edge max router, And even when I was on the guest network, I still had full access to the main network... So tutorial on how ubiquity setup has its nuances for this particular arena would be helpful... I have a friend who just put in the brand new all-in-one NVR in router solution from ubiquity and he had similar challenges on that device...

  • @CrosstalkSolutions

    @CrosstalkSolutions

    3 жыл бұрын

    No, I don't believe you can. The UDM-Pro is an all-in-one kind of appliance...I'm not aware of any option to segregate out Protect and related devices into their own VLAN. Or rather, you could put the CAMERAS into their own VLANs, but then some of the auto-detect features of Protect would not work...it would be a tricky (and not recommended) setup.

    The cameras and NVR should be on the same network and vlan. Otherwise all of the traffic has to route though your router (without layer3 switch) learned this the hard when my udm pro cpu maxed out. So far no way to have udm Pro and cameras on different networks.
